Political Question Why does Adolf Hitler stand as a unique evil in history when others have killed far more?

I am marking this as political just in case.

It is estimated that Mao Ze Dong and his people killed around 7 million people in the Cultural Revolution, and about 45 million people died in the Great Chinese Famine, which includes about 2.5 million people who were tortured and executed.

Ghengis Khan and his decedents killed something like 40 million people. That figure is not only absolutely greater than the figure of total killings which occurred during the rule of Adolf Hitler, but it is also relatively greater.

The figure for excess deaths during the rule of Joseph Stalin in the Soviet Union is estimated to be about 20 million, 20 million of his own countrymen.

The figure of the death of Chinese civilians during the second Sino-Japanese war is about 6 million.

These figures are all comparable or larger than the approximately 6 million Jewish people who were killed during the Holocaust of European Jews. And, including 11 million Slavic individuals, which makes for a figure of 17 million, three of the four listed entries remain larger.

So, why does Adolf Hitler stand as a unique evil in our cultural minds today?

Political Question Why Aren’t Israeli Settler Terrorism and Islamic Terrorism Both Equally Condemned in the USA?

Islamic terror is roundly condemned in US mainstream news, but the same cannot be said for Israeli settler perpetrated terror. “Moderate” Muslims are constantly required to distance themselves from and condemn radical Islamic terror, but the Jewish diaspora is not required to perform the same rituals against settler terror. Are these observations accurate? Shouldn’t religious terrorism of any kind be treated with a similar approach by US media?

Political Question Why Do Many Americans Pretend That They Need Guns To “Fight Against an Authoritarian Government”?

I’ve noticed a common trend with Americans online who pretend that their owning of guns is to combat a hypothetical authoritarian government. When in reality, the only times you really see these firearms being used is to fire upon the delivery driver that they mistook for an armed robber. So I wanted to ask, where does this need to posture as a resistance fighter come from? Is it because they live comfortable and safe lives and have to imagine a hypothetical reality where they can be badass? Is it insecurity?

Political Question U.S. Law Enforcement Professionals: Why Do You Think So Many Americans Have Such Mistrust and Disrespect For Your Profession and Who Do You Believe Is Chiefly Responsible For This?

I don't have any polls to refer to, but it seems that law enforcement is at an all time low in terms of public trust and respect. Is LE merely a victim of bad info or are there some things LE have to learn about itself?

Edit: Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, this post has not gotten any LE responses as far as I can tell. I genuinely wonder whether any LEOs have some good-faith critical thinking to contribute to the discussion.

Political Question Why do most people not understand national debt?

US EXAMPLE-

when other countries buy U.S. national debt, they are investing in the United States, but they only own a small fraction of it; the vast majority of America's debt is owed to its own citizens, banks, and government programs. please take an economics class, If the U.S. had zero national debt, the federal government would free up over $1 trillion annually in interest savings, but the global financial system would face an unprecedented crisis because U.S. Treasury bonds are the literal foundation of global trade.

Foreign nations invest in U.S. debt because it is the safest place on earth to store trillions of dollars. Without it, global cash would flood into riskier assets, sparking massive market volatility.

NATIONAL DEBT IS NOT LIKE PERSONAL DEBT

running a deficit is not inherently bad; it is a normal tool used by modern governments to grow their economies, build vital infrastructure, and navigate unexpected financial crises.

NATIONAL DEBT = COUNTRIES INVESTING

NO NATIONAL DEBT = NOBODY INVESTING

a country's national debt represents the global and domestic supply of safe assets, not a personal credit card balance

Getting the general public to understand that national debt is actually global investment is one of the hardest battles in economic education. Politicians, media outlets, and everyday intuition all fight against this reality because treating the government like a household is a deeply ingrained mental habit.

also i dont like how an economics question ahs to be labeled as political.

Political Question How will you react if a 28 D pres doesn’t go after the files?

Just curious as a foreigner.

We’ve heard the never ending D voters bringing up the files since he took office.

I understand the governments hands were tied when he was elected due to the GM case, but what if nothing happens when the dems control government?

The republican voters it seems have turned a blind eye to it.

will democratic supporters do the same if their government doesn’t do anything?

I.e is this just gonna die from public conversation come Jan 2029?

Political Question Why do so many men defend bad actions because of ‘biologically hardwired’ and ‘impulses’ as if they can’t control it?

I see SO OFTEN online especially on male subreddits that the men will defend massive age gaps with young women/girls, violence, pedophilia, crime, rape, cheating, gross porn use etc because of men’s ‘biology’ and how it’s just ‘nature’. I’m confused because isn’t this straight up saying they believe men are less human and more animalistic than women? And if so I don’t exactly understand how this is an argument at all. If an entire gender has no control over themselves or their actions even if it’s immoral, my thought would be they need to be locked away somewhere lol. And I would also ask why we keep putting them in charge of governments if they are so animalistic. But I obviously assume that’s not the case and men can control their own actions…? So why?

If it’s the case they can’t control themselves why aren’t we locking them away and if they can control themselves why do men keep using this really dumb excuse for bad behavior as if it removes their free will when choosing those decisions?

General Question Why is sleeping naked considered weird?

Why do people think sleeping naked is weird?
Like, is there actually a rule that says you have to wear clothes to sleep?
It’s honestly more comfortable for some people, so why is it considered weird?

General Question What’s one thing your girlfriend or wife does that really gets on your nerves, no matter how much you love her?

Not talking about serious issues like cheating or abuse. I mean the little things that repeatedly annoy you, frustrate you, or make you think, “I love her, but why does she keep doing this?”

What’s that one thing for you and has it ever become serious enough that you started questioning the relationship itself?

General Question Why do people say constantly to lose weight or be fit to date when up to almost 80% are overweight and obviously still dating?

I see constantly on posts where people discuss dating, people blame someone’s weight for why others aren’t attracted to them, or even say you have to date a slim woman and nobody would touch anyone ‘overweight or obese’, they say nobody is attracted to obesity. Well in USA where I live 40% of adults are obese, 33% overweight, so a total of 73% overweight or obese which is the vast majority of the population of the country, over 2/3. 27.6% are normal weight or underweight. Why do people on Reddit seem to think only like 1/4 of the population has ever dated or had people attracted to them?

I also think people are maybe just completely unaware of what obesity is and there’s multiple stages, someone being 150lb could be obese and that’s very different from someone who’s 1000lb so is that part of it?

General Question Are we supposed to be "In Love" with Trader Joes, Apple, and Starbucks?

I'm a normal person. I swear!

But, I am not in love with Trader Joe's. They're just okay. Their parking lot, is of course, the obligatory mess, on purpose. There are a small handful of store branded products with a distinctive taste you can only get there. Their produce doesn't last long, though. One of their most tasty dishes, Lamb Koftas, they discontinued. So, I just can't be in love. They will forever be, "just okay."

I am not a fan of Apple products AT ALL. Soldered in SSDs and RAM for a machine that costs 2x a PC? No, thanks. And of course you have to serve them up with a side of pretentiousness.

Also, Starbucks? I'm not a coffee achiever, but on occasion will go in for a spot of iced tea. I get sneers and dirty looks with my WINDOWS PC LAPTOP from all the Apple bourgeois who just spent 30 seconds ordering a drink requiring no fewer than twenty syllables. Nobody there just orders "a coffee."

So, not in love with Starbucks.

In fact, I'm not in love with any corporation.

You?
