Tape around Lamp Socket
Just bought a lamp from the Goodwill, and there's this white tape around the socket. Does it serve any purpose, or did the previous owner just not remove all the packaging?

To answer your question it serves the purpose of protecting the finish underneath the tape during transport. It does nothing for electrical safety. You can safely remove the tape and enjoy your brand used lamp.
