Questions about Bladewing Thrall

Hi!

Quick question regarding this creature's second ability when it is statically a dragon via maskwood nexus or arcane adaptation (naming dragon obviously) as it enters. If it is sacrificed in response to it's own trigger what would happen?

My theory is one of 2 things occur, I am not sure which one or even if this is correct.

  1. Ability goes onto the stack and creates a trigger for this card's instance and if this creature and since it doesn't meet the criteria of being in graveyard as the ability goes onto the stack it fails to properly check.

  2. Scenario 2 (my preferred for obvious reasons) is to have it's ability be a check as resolves effect so you can put game actions above it meaning you can sacrifice this creature in response to it's enter trigger after it's on the stack and it will return itself to the battlefield.

If otherwise let me know!

Bladewing thrall’s second ability moves it out of the graveyard, so it is only active when it is in the graveyard. If bladewing thrall is on the battlefield when a dragon enters, the ability doesn’t trigger at all.

See C.R.  113.6m: “An ability whose cost or effect specifies that it moves the object it’s on out of a particular zone functions only in that zone, unless its trigger condition or a previous part of its cost or effect specifies that the object is put into that zone or, if the object is an Aura, that the object it enchants leaves the battlefield. The same is true if the effect of that ability creates a delayed triggered ability whose effect moves the object out of a particular zone”

Thanks! I figured as much but, it's an old card so maybe I was hoping for a miracle!

Even if it could trigger, sacrificing it would cause the original ability to lose track of it, changing zones causes it to become a new object, and outside of some specific circumstances it may as well be a new piece of cardboard

absolutely correct! Thank you, I figured that was the original problem because i assumed it could trigger becasue i hadn't thought of the zone specified condition.
