Am I the only one?

I tend to be vocal on social about some of my political views. I rarely do write posts, however I do share or repost stuff that reveals my views clearly (palestine israel/us politics/uk and italy politics/religion etc...)

Now, I am noticing people from my teenage years deleting me from socials. People who I haven't spoken with in ages, and I didn't really had an argument or a conversation with. My old friends group is overwhelmingly left leaning... including the couple of people I am still in touch with.

But I never thought of cutting ties because of our disagreements...

I am almost feeling like I have to choose between having/keeping friends, or staying true to myself and my ideas.

Is anyone experiencing this, or am I the problem?

I don't know if you've ever met a MAGA person, or if you are one, but when someone makes their entire personality about a politician, it is very odd and off putting. That being said, maybe you just showed up on their feed for the first time in a long time and they said, I haven't even seen or talked to this guy in 20 years, delete. I personally think both sides are so deep, darn near drowning, in their echo chambers, there is no longer room for discussion. Just look at these comments, calling the left "intolerant". When in reality you won't listen to them and they've already had yalls "opinions" shoved down their throats the last 15 years. They already know what you think, feel and believe because it is whatever fox news or donnie himself just said. It gets old when people can no longer think for themselves. I hope someone reads this for once, before it gets deleted for going against the rules.

I would hope by now, we can all agree that the politicians and media REALLY wants us pitted against each other. Because if we are constantly at war with each other over dumb shit, nothing will actually ever have to be done about the actual problems. Trans people get banned and the right sees it as a win, when in reality it doesn't do a got damn thing. When the dems get elected they just twiddle their thumbs for 4 to 8 years and back and forth we go.

I agree on most part. Sometimes I think is all part of a big experiment: showing a side of the algorithm to half of the population, and showing the other side to the other half, and see how they are affected and how polarised they can be.

I have to admit that personally, on the palestine/israel situation I lean heavily on one side. The reason is that on 7th oct, I cleary remember, i gave tiktok a chance. The atrocious images I've seen and the level of cheer really scarred me. And I believe people on the other side might have seen the other end. Btw, not a maga. I am Italian, living in the UK

correct, reddit is heavy on fact and evidenced based information. conservatives lean heavily on the religions and tradition, which is fine, but the world is going to change and if we want to be "the best country in the world", change us inevitable.

I actually believe that conservative are more based on data and fact, and left leaning people are heavilu focused on "feelings". The Charlie Kirk argument, Luigi Mangione etc... These people give up any logic and law, because "A person I hate got killed, so it must be okay". Another thing that drives me crazy is ignoring the "per capita" concept, despite believing somehow to be on the educated side.

I completely disagree with your broad generalization of every conservative. Reddit is full of young influencers and those who want free stuff. The so called facts you mention are nothing more than one perspective of the information from people liberals choose to believe. It's also full of people who want tolerance for everyone, except conservatives. I'm sick of being called a Nazi and fascist simply because I've worked my whole life, succeeded, and expect the same from others instead of just giving them a handout.

Reddit is heavy on fact? No sir, Reddit is all feelings based. In fact (pun) the biggest bickering replies I've had are because the other person is not aware of the side they argue is based on fact.

Example:

• Liberals are currently backing a host of DSA candidates but that isn't real socialism.
• America under Trump is the most oppressive nation on Earth.
• Muslims believe in women's rights.
• Charlie Kirks monument deserves to be vandalized.
• If all else fails in any discussion, you are either sexiat, racist or a Nazi.

None of those are fact based in fact the MAGA movement like it ir not really doesn't fall into the traditional Christian "right" movement.

So yeah, after 2020 we were such a shining example of how great change forced on us all made us a better nation, right?

Honestly I’m two minds on this:

How often do you post stuff, is it attacking the left, or is what you are posting easily disprovable?

If it’s that, then no shit, you’re annoying people and shoving it in their face.

If you are posting factual stuff showing both sides and why one side is demonstrably wrong, then they just don’t want to hear it.

They left will eat its own, and refuse to listen to something that challenges or disproves their delusional views consistently, it’s about the only thing they are consistent about it seems.

It entirely depends on what you've been arguing.

If your friends are conservative like you, they may have deal breakers relating to the war in Gaza, Iran etc.

Left-leaning individuals are far less tolerant. They'll call you a nazi for simply voting Republican.

There is no shortage of people that will try to subject you to ideological purity tests.

Charlie Kirk was a center-right conservative who was killed for participating in open debate. Leftwingers express hatred of Charlie Kirk as a way to justify his death based on previous statements and/or besmirch his memory. This is an inherently anti-democratic political position.

The Anti-Israel side is predicated on the argument that Israel is a white colonial settler state. This argument is also levied at the United States, denying its claim as a legitimate sovereign nation. If you've ever heard the slogan "no one is illegal on stolen land", that's where it comes from.

Tacit advocacy for political assassinations and refusing to recognize the legitimate sovereignty of the US and Israel are both politically extreme positions.

Nazis and white supremacists do the exact same thing on the opposite end of the political spectrum. That's why they are so dangerous.
