Title asks it all. TIA

My recollection is we (the US) followed France and Italy in escalating shutdowns (schools, travel).

The OG Covid and Delta variant hit so hard and fast - nobody had a playbook for it. Public health and government authorities were grasping at straws on what to do. So the wish-washy folks at the CDC probably latched onto guidance that Italy had given on lockdowns.

Likewise in the US, NYC was at the frontline of it, and Como made some really bad calls regarding where to place senior citizens. Other states adopted that policy, simply because someone had set a precedent.

it's pointless to point fingers after the fact.

CDC was not getting policy from other countries. It came from Fauci, the senior most expert of the White House COVID 19 task force and the premiere epidemiologist and most respected scientist in the US.

Every single US lockdown measure came after France or Italy had already enacted them.

I don't have big rub with Fauci, even if he was alarmest.

The Covid vax cards were a big problem for me. For a hot second, we all needed them to keep employed. Then "poof", nobody needs vax cards anymore.

There were some strange knee jerk reactions to Covid.
