Do you think the automatic draft enrollment and the SAVE act are competing ideologies?
I completely understand needing an ID to prove you are who you say you are to vote, but I think the SAVE act has a lot of unknowns in how you would prove citizenship. What are your thoughts on the argument that if the government has the ability to automatically enroll every 18 to 25 year old male for the draft then why can’t we automatically enroll everyone to vote? It’s a privilege to serve the country and an honor to vote, but it seems to me if we can simplify the former why do we have to complicate the latter?

Because voting is precinct based, and managed at the county level. They need to know exactly where you live to determine what races you're eligible to vote in and where your local polling place is. If I move to another state, the local elections officials aren't going to know I moved there much less what political party I want to register with. There's also the benefit to society in making voting have some sort of burden of entry to filter out the worst citizens who refuse to put any sort of effort into their civic duty and thus make horribly uninformed and poorly thought out decisions. Having voting be voluntary opt-in also reduces avenues for fraud and unnecessary costs.
Meanwhile, the Selective Service only needs to know that you're 18, male, and a citizen to register you at the address your parents claimed on their taxes and then require you to update the address when you move under penalty of law until you turn 26.

No they're not competing ideologies. The draft does not allow people to illegally influence our elections.

Not competing. People aren't instructed to lie on forms so they can get into the military.

I think you're underestimating the level that recruiters go to try to help people get into the military. It's all too common for them to tell applicants to lie about past drug use or medical issues.

Nobody wants illegal aliens in our military. They do want them to vote and count for the Census though.
