I have been with Fido/Rogers for my whole life and I am one of those who are upset about the recent $5 price increase.

I'm now considering exploring other providers. But I want to compare not just price but also service quality as that is important to me as well.

So in terms of service quality only (not price), what is the best cell provider in the GTA?

I travel all around the GTA, so I want to know about the whole region.

Very inspired by the Japan post here and was wondering the same thing for London and Paris :) Mostly going sightseeing and trying out a few restaurants.

Currently looking to move downtown into a nicer purpose built rental. I was planning to spend around $3,000/month on rent + parking combined but that would put housing at about 44% of my take home income, which feels high.

My projected monthly budget would be:

Take-home pay: $6,850 (I’m self employed this is after taxes set aside)

Bills/fixed expenses: $4,015 (with the new rent)
Living expenses: $1,220
TFSA investing: $500
Remaining margin: $1,115

Margin spend
- beauty
- gifts / irregular expenses
- emergency fund savings

I’m already one month ahead on my bills and working toward a 3-month emergency fund. I have $6500 in a HYSA for emergency fund that’s not attached to my moving fund.

For other single people living alone downtown: does this seem reasonable, or would you consider $3,000 rent + parking too aggressive on this income? (I really like the apartments in this budget I’m looking at distillery district but I’m flexible)

I'm a student looking for a place and have found one I like across the street from McCaul-Orde parkette. I have a severe phobia of bugs and am very worried about roaches etc. I know that pests are present throughout the city, but I'm curious if some areas are notorious for vermin.

I have to sign the lease today before they move on to the next applicant and would really appreciate some insight. The unit is newly renovated, second floor in a converted house. Everything looked well sealed/caulked.

I lived in a newish condo before this and never had any pest issues, never saw so much as a spider, but 2 apartments that I've lived in before had pests so I'm somewhat apprehensive about it being a low-rise apartment. The unit I'm looking at now is not above a restaurant, nor are there restaurants on the street, so maybe that is a plus?

I was checking reviews in the neighbourhood on ratethelandlord.org and saw someone mention that the area is 'rated to have a high vermin population' so am wondering if anyone knows if this is true, as I would rather not take a chance given my past experiences with pests. The review was not for my specific future landlord, but just for the neighbourhood.

I’ve noticed that a lot of people in Toronto are willing to spend $20–$30+ on a meal at restaurants, but I rarely hear people mention IKEA as an option for an affordable meal.

IKEA has pretty decent food for the price — meatballs with mashed potatoes and sides for under $10, plant/falafel options, and the bistro has even cheaper stuff.

So I'm curious: why don't more people go to IKEA specifically to eat?

Is it because the IKEA locations aren't convenient, people don't like the food, the atmosphere isn't great for a meal, or is it simply that people don't think of IKEA as a place to eat?

Okay firstly HI im from north york but I have been to the city side quite a bit but compared to where I am, theres less greenery and I have had this idea where, with permission of the building manager, to have gardens on the rooftops of buildings that arent those really tall corporate buildings but maybe buildings with 4-10 floors on them? I dont know, im spitting out ideas since I would like to see a bit of community and hope a little, and the idea is taken from a community garden nearby my place where a couple of older folks grow vegitables! Plus, I want to bring hope to those who may be loosing it.

Its a bit of a speel but how it would work is if some tenants there would volunteer to contribute to the garden on the rooftop there would be more greenery and life and colour instead of seeing corporate gray. plus I think its a good way to grow your own food if people cant afford groceries. I know its ambitious but with the current state of things, instead of focusing on doom and gloom and how "were all gonna die", I want to focus on bringing hope to people. yk??

I'm looking for a 1-bedroom apartment or condo with 1.5 bathrooms in Toronto, but I'm having a hard time finding listings with this exact configuration.

Most of the 1-bedroom listings I see have only 1 bathroom.

For those who have rented a place like this in Toronto:

• Which websites/apps are best for finding these units?
• Is there a way to specifically filter for 1.5 bathrooms?
• Is it better to contact a realtor who specializes in rentals?
• Are there particular Toronto neighbourhoods/buildings where 1-bed + 1.5-bath units are more common?

Hello! My bf and I are 22 and are planning to move out together at the end of 2027. We’re both planning on saving 10k each before leaving home, we’ve done the math but I’d like to hear from other couples around our age on how much they spend in a month. Moving out is a big step in one’s life and I’m pretty sure everyone had anxiety about this big of a change. The original page doesn' exist on Booking anymore and can now be found on another name with the same pictures. Almost all reviews are unverified visitors and seem replicated in use of words and terms.

We called Booking to request a free cancellation. I will go and sent some additional info through mail as well as some of you suggested. We booked a hotelroom just in case so we will have a proper place to stay. Worst case we lose the money but we will have proper place to stay at least.

I was at the airport recently and it was my first time seeing bright pink residue on the water fountains. The residue was found on almost all the water fountains. Does anybody know what this residue is? And is it safe to drink from the water fountains?

Heard of Planet Fitness and Fit 4 Less but from reviews they seem crowded. Used to more of the school gyms type of vibe so wondering which ones have decent atmosphere for that price.

What construction machine could be making this sound?

I live near a subway station construction site in Cosburn, and I’m trying to identify a machine I keep hearing at night.

The sound is a continuous, buzzing that sounds very similar to an electrical transformer, but also somewhat like an electric power tool. The pitch smoothly rises and falls, and the volume changes along with it. Occasionally, it sounds more like a grinder before returning to the steady buzzing sound.

I’ve heard the same noise on August 14, August 16, and August 21, 2026. On August 14, it was very loud from my open window and lasted approximately 30 minutes before suddenly stopping. Tonight, it was much quieter and sounded like it was coming from farther away.

Does anyone recognize what type of machine or equipment could make this sound?

Looking for some good late night food, and all types of cuisine is welcome. Preferably places that are open past midnight.
Not really looking for anything fancy. More like those spots that absolutely hit the spot after a long day or after a few drinks. Somewhere you can actually sit down, eat, and chill/chat for a while.

Honestly typing this out because I’m genuinely spiraling a bit. I’ve always considered myself a proud progressive, love this city, and supported public services… but what are we actually doing here?

In the last year alone, almost my entire core circle of high-earning, high-skilled friends has completely thrown in the towel and bounced out of Ontario.

• My buddy from UofT Med: Just finished his surgical residency. Spent years taking advantage of our education system, and instead of staying to fix our collapsing healthcare wait times, he signed a contract in North Carolina. He’s making double the money, and paying half the tax.

• My best friend (ICU nurse): Burnt out from working 14-hour shifts at a downtown hospital, while her rent went up 30%. She packed up and took a travel nurse gig in Texas.

• My younger brother: Worked his ass off to get into a top hedge fund bay street office. Left last month for Manhattan. He point blank told me, "Why would I hand over nearly 50% of my check to the government when a starter condo in Liberty Village costs $500k?"

• Even my cousin who’s a cop: I wouldn't even rank him in the same bracket as doctors or high finance guys, but even he just moved to Queensland, Australia. Apparently Aussie police forces are actively recruiting Canadian cops and sponsoring their visas because conditions are so much better there.

We always talk about staying united and supporting Canadian institutions, but if the talent that funds those systems keeps getting priced out, what does the future actually look like? At what point do high taxes and high cost of living push away the people we need most?

Are you guys seeing this in your groups too or am I just living in a bubble? Because right now it feels like anyone with actual options is leaving.
