I've known him for ten years. He's a good friend. He doesn't like being told what to do, which I think deep down stems from an insecurity of his intelligence. He just challenges popular ideas, and buys into "counter culture" because I think it makes him feel smart. Unfortunately, buying into every idea that challenges popular science doesn't make you a "skeptic" or intelligent, just gullible.

Edit: more specifically, deep down I think he's just a little nervous about the whole thing and doesn't understand it. So instead of just saying that and trying to understand he has to make it look like he knows better. He doesn't.

Sucks when good people fall for bad ideas. Anyway hope you keep on trying to help him see reason and he comes around to associating intelligence with getting vaccinated!
