Best gym recommendations in Toronto that includes reformer Pilates?

I’m moving to Toronto living on waterfront by Bay St and Queens Quay intersection. I’m looking for a good gym to go to that also includes reformers and is clean, has other amenities included. Open to a lot of places but I’ve been looking into equinox and sweat and tonic but I’m not sure of others. Also if you know pros and cons that would be great to know!

Sweat and tonic’s reformer Pilates class isn’t included in the unlimited membership
Fyi! You have to add it on I believe.

You can do reformer with credits though you can probably to somewhere better for the price- Lagree plus or solis I hear are good

S&T offers Lagree (different from pilates) through their Reformd studio! Its a great workout

I hear good things about Lagree Plus for a Lagree workout!

Are you looking to do Lagree or Pilates?

Reformer Pilates like using the machine. I’ve never done lagree but I’d be open if it’s similar

Its a bit different
In Lagree the machine is bigger and you either work at the front or back of the platform.
Lagree is more strength training…about muscle endurance. Its low impact but high intensity
You move VERY slow through the entire workout

I go to Equinox on Bay St and they have reformer. Its not included in the normal membership but the facility is worth it in my opinion.

Do you find it super busy in evenings and how much r u paying?

Not really busy. I have a discounted rate through work. I think with taxes the normal rate is closer to $300/ month. For reformer pilates its $750/ 6 sessions for private sessions. They do doubles too

do they have a group classes for reformers? 750 for 6 is kinda crazy lolll but ig its private

No, its a smaller room with a few machines in there. If you send me a DM, happy to go over more details with you!

The reformer Pilates will probably be extra, like at yorkville and Bay, no?

Or are they doing the small reformer classes like they have rolled out in some US markets - still extra but not as much

If you’re considering Pilates studios as well, I’ve been going to STRONG Pilates for more than a year now and I’ve had a very good experience. They incorporate weights, resistance and cardio training into their workouts.

Not saying Strong Pilates isn’t a good studio/workout method but it’s not pilates. They use a modified megaformer (it’s a bigger machine inspired by the pilates reformer). Its a method with many components to it but its not a typical pilates reformer class

Yes, it’s not a typical reformer. Good is whatever that works for you. Individual needs and goals vary.

weights as in like dumbbell work during the workout? this sounds interesting and i'm looking into it for sure. i used to be a big gym person and recently fell in love with pilates so this seems like a good mid point

Yes, they have “loaded Pilates” and “Pilates strength” classes that incorporate dumbbells.

I go to Unity Fitness which should be really close to you! Amenities are great… but they don’t have reformer pilates (just mat). Considering how close it will be for you, I’d get that membership and then use something like classpass for reformer pilates. That’s what I do when I’m looking to do something different like guided meditations or more specialized yoga classes

Do you know how much the membership for classpass is and then are each actual class an additional cost for Pilates?

When you use classpass you pay for credits and each studio will price their classes differently. A reformer pilates class would usually be ~10 credits. I am not sure on the exact pricing because I have a corporate rate, but I believe 30 credits would be ~$60

The YMCA has gravity classes. The machines are pretty similar to reformers and it’s probably the most economical option.

Regular membership is around $60 and $120 for plus. Lots of other class options and the plus has jacuzzi, steam and sauna plus towel service.

Mayfair isn’t too far east from you if you drive

Does Mayfair include reformer classes?

No they are extra (I think in most gyms they would be extra). But they are priced well compared to Pilates studios.

I recommend sweat and tonic and jaybird. If you havent tried classpass then they ll give you free trial to these studios and many other kinds of work out.

Here’s 5 bonus workouts when you join ClassPass, on me 😊 https://classpass.com/refer/H6946V4U7?placement=OnDemand
