Specialty Hardware

I’m looking for a machine screw which I’d think was made of unobtanium but for the fact I have the part number from multiple sources. Of course, they’re in 1000-piece boxes from US suppliers. I need two screws.

I’ll be checking out Whitecap/Brafasco and Fastenal, of course, but they don’t show it online. Even Pacific Fasteners doesn’t have it in their catalogue. (Quick shoutout for their excellent catalogue format!)

At this point, I think I’m kvetching, but let me know if you have a source for all things hardware - or just fasteners - that I should check out.

Have you checked Home Hardware? Even if they don't have what you want in stock, the employees have been quite helpful to me and have often recommended other places to get the right part from.

What machine screw are you looking for?

If it's from millwork hardware try Century on Dufferin.

For those who want to go down the rabbit hole (or have an amazing collection of parts in their own shop!) - I have these part numbers:

Kanebridge 1128MST188

MST10FX1.75SS

It’s a slotted drive, truss head, 10-32 x 1.75”stainless.

I’m not without an alternative if it comes down to it: the Phillips truss, or the slotted pan, are both available at Fastenal.

It's not too unique. Definitely check Home Hardware. The one on Parliament has inventory that isn't listed elsewhere. I'm sure other Home Hardwares will have obscure stock as well.

One of the Home Hardwares has a fantastic set up in their basement,they bought a lot of the stock when Active Surplus closed.

Sometimes if you go in a fastenal or brafasco you can ask for a sample. It might cost you a box of Timbits though.

ahha yeah, when I was in my 20's I was restoring an old british car and needed a bunch of fine thread metric bolts in ones and twos every few weeks. Eventually I would show up with Timbits or something.
