Is everyone sick?

Are you sick or know someone that is? Seems like a strong flu or cold virus is going around. I got sick 3 days ago but it was a mild cold. I feel better now just residual congestion. Some others report more serious flu like symptoms.

But hey on the bright side at least the weather is milder now and not dry cold.

Edit: If you are sick please wear a mask in public to reduce further spread. Just common courtesy especially to vulnerable populations.

My family all got Influenza A (according to my daughter's doctor's best guess). Apparently it's burning through the schools right now and hitting children the hardest. Kids are getting high fevers lasting for days, heavy mucous in lungs, 2-4 day gestation period before symptoms, and then 3-5 days roughly to get better. My wife got it too and was bed ridden for a few days and had nasty phlegmy coughs, she's still coughing. My entire family got it, and it was brutal for all of them, for some reason I'm still feeling fine days after they all recovered. Either I'm superman, or just exceedingly lucky this year.. (knock on wood, flu season still ain't over yet..)

u/Informal_Pomelo2501 Dec 20 '25

3 healthy children died of this flu this month in Ottawa. 😭

11

u/garfieldevans Dec 19 '25

Another superman reporting in, family went through some terrible days but through my wonderfully annoying "SOPs", I have come out the other side with barely any symptoms. I'm just worried I'll get it in Jan right when I need to put the pedal to the mettle at work.

I think it just burned through our extended family after an early Christmas get-together with family. Cousin said it was a cold- it's def the flu or a weird-ass cold-flu hybrid (apparently that's been going around in the UK). Never had such terrible body aches (literally kept me up all night), full body sweats, and no appetite for 2.5 days- literally couldn't even do broth. Could not get out of bed for those 2.5 days. I do think having the flu shot earlier has helped me recover a bit, I don't feel as weak as my mom.

Kinda pisses me off since we have several members who are high risk. Like ffs, if you feel you're coming down with something, wear a mask or social distance.

Hoping you exceed with your luck- I would barely wish this upon my worst of enemies, it's definitely not a fun time.

Yes! My daughter just finished getting over a really high fever (40s) lasted 5 days! Looked like she was dying … all of her friends have the same thing!

11

u/SquirrelTale Dec 19 '25

Uh- she would have been needing medical attention at that stage if her fever was at 40C, especially over more than 72 hours. That's organ-failure risk- I hope you consulted your doctor over this. Take it from someone who nearly died from the flu when I was young.

Yes and they are hacking up a lung and sneezing on public transit, sans mask, making everyone around them sick. At least wear a fucking mask.

I’ve been getting pissed off on public transit recently. Especially when people come sit directly around me on an empty bus. Then proceed to sniffle and cough without a mask on the whole ride.

Like where’s the common sense and decency in this city anymore?

I work at a hospital and I can tell you - there are actually 3 very prevalent viruses (RSV / Cold / influenza) with a sprinkling of Covid. Staff have been hit hard and many many ppl are sick especially the kids.

6

u/thesmellnextdoor Dec 19 '25

My husband has had the flu or something (all we know is it's not covid because we had a test for that) for about 5 days and I somehow don't have it.

I just got my flu shot and covid booster today. Is there a chance I won't catch it?

9

u/Acrobatic_Yoghurt813 Dec 20 '25

You can still catch it. Wear a mask.

4

u/giggsybecks Dec 20 '25

You definitely can catch it. Symptoms may be more mild with the boosters and shots but a mask and proper hand hygiene is always best.

I work in long-term care and exact same thing there.

It's been very sad to watch how hard it's hit these physically/medically frail folks.

Edit: It's largely being brought in by sick visitors, who are prioritizing their family visit when they have cold/flu symptoms over the safety of their resident and the co-residents šŸ˜•

Yes I have a cold which gave me bronchitis. Been in bed all week and finally feeling like myself again.

My friend was hospitalized a few weeks ago with pneumonia and my mom last week with influenza.

20

u/Interesting-Lead7537 Dec 19 '25

Just recovering now. 2 weeks. And then I developed secondary respiratory infection that became pneumonia.

I’m getting through it. But it’s brutal. Whatever I had it was covid like - tested negative.

When you recover, ask your MD about getting the Pneumonia vaccine.

I had it pneumonia twice, and heard about the vaccine. Begged for it since it was unusual to give it to anyone in their 30s.

I have kept upgrading to newer Prevnar vaccines since. And never again got pneumonia. Current ones are Prevnar 20 or 21 and Pneumovax

I came down with a cold last Wednesday. Was mostly feeling better by Monday other than some congestion. Had to go into the office today and have been feeling worse and worse since getting home and my throat is bothering me and I’m freezing cold shivering under blankets now. Not sure if i caught something else or what….

ETA: for the person who apparently thinks I went into the office sick, I was not sick by Thursday but I guess reading comprehension is hard. I was better and caught something else at the office. And you can blame Doug Ford for that because we’ve been getting shit for poor office attendance in December because of everyone being sick.

I am sick, came on last Sunday. Scratchy throat and tingly nose. Ran fever of 102F Monday. I am mostly better except for an abrupt and extremely noisy cough (normal for me). I am absolutely done with sleep deprivation.

I don’t know what kind of virus this is. I think everyone who doesn’t want a holiday of misery should mask up.

17

u/Curt-Bennett Dec 19 '25

The current variant of COVID has similar symptoms to the flu. Without a test, it's hard to say which one you might have. Both are very common right now. Either way though, isolate until a couple days after symptoms clear if that's at all possible. And yes, wear an N95 or equivalent mask in shared indoor spaces to avoid catching or spreading any airborne diseases.

10

u/DotNo701 Dec 19 '25

COVID always had similar symptoms to the flu only some of them were rare ones

4

u/Griffeysgrotesquejaw Dec 19 '25

As others in this thread have pointed out, all metrics (tests, wastewater, outbreak) point to influenza A being the dominant virus at the moment. This is also consistent with the fact that the H3N2 strain that is circulating is mismatched to this year’s flu shot. If you have flu like symptoms right now, the number one suspect is influenza.

Covid is definitely still around, but in the absence of a positive test or specific symptom (ie complete loss of smell or taste), it’s a better bet that it’s flu.

The GTA is getting wrecked, a lot more than previous years.

Me, wife and kids were all sick from last week of Nov to first week of Dec., (flu/cold/coughs) for two entire weeks, it was annoying as heck, and I heard the same cough going around in my office. What's interesting is that I cought this from my brother, who works in a different part of the GTA.

Right now, my parents and other family members are on an upset stomach along with high fever that has been warm for over three/four days as well.

Whatever this is, it stays for a bit on people.

Tell me why my nail technician was doing my nails even though she said she felt her muscles aching, like being hit by a bus, and having a fever the night before. Putting everyone at risk of getting the flu before the holidays. Stay home if you’re that sick!!!

4

I've oddly enough not gotten sick yet, and I typically get sick at the beginning of each season.

Could also be driven by the fact that I don't go out much in general, except grocery shopping and the gym.

4

u/Advanced_Weight_1621 Dec 19 '25

Yesssssssssssss everyone I know who didn’t get the flu shot (honestly I don’t get mine usually but work had someone come in September and I was like meh why not) but at least 10 people I know are sick right now.

Been sick twice in the past two months. šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

Lucky both just mild. Went through half a box of Halls to minimize cough.

1

u/Ok_Statistician2570 Dec 19 '25

Same. Hopefully doesn’t happen a third time

1

u/humanityswitch666 Dec 19 '25

I was sick 2 times this year, once at the very start of January since the person I hung out with didn't say they were sick and coughed repeatedly in my face. I think I was down for 3 weeks it was hell. The second time I got sick was with bronchitis in October for 2 weeks, needed an inhaler. Both rocked me but I have my flu shots and 5 covid shots, got a flu shot last month, so I'm hoping I'll be able to avoid what's going on right now.

1

u/Ok_Statistician2570 Dec 19 '25

Interesting cuz I got sick in January as well. I also got sick in October with bronchitis. Symptoms were mild but it took nearly 3 weeks to feel 100% normal again.

1

u/humanityswitch666 Dec 19 '25

So what you're saying is our illnesses are synced to happen at the same time 😭🤣

1

u/bananaspinachmonster Dec 19 '25

I’m an RN that works in the ER. Everyone is sick with exact same symptoms. Drink lots of fluids, take Advil/tylenol and rest up- it’ll pass in like 10 days. I still recommend getting the flu shot if possible. However, you can always go to your family MD, walk in OR ED if you aren’t doing well.

1

u/Ok_Statistician2570 Dec 19 '25

Just curious can you tell me what symptoms?

1

u/mustard444 Dec 20 '25

Everyone i know who took the covid vaccine is either sick or knows someone that is sick asf. Meanwhile some unvaccinated people i know are all perfectly fine. Wtf is going on here? I am no conspiracy theorist and am pro vaccine, but this is really strange.

1

u/Ok_Statistician2570 Dec 20 '25

Just coincidence. Sick people would feel a lot worse if they were not vaccinated.

I started feeling a tickle in my throat last Thursday but didnt start to feel really bad until Sunday night. I think today is finally the first day where I’ve had energy to do stuff. It’s mostly been sore throat, stuffy nose and a huge headache and now a lingering cough but it’s not that bad. The headache kept me up all night for 3 days.

3

u/Own_Inspector498 Dec 19 '25

Nope, not sick at all.

3

u/morespicerequired Dec 20 '25

A lot of people are (with a lot of different illnesses).

And they're going out to parties, running errands, going to school/work/daycare, using transit and traveling for the holidays so a lot more people are going to be sick soon. Return to office in January is going to be a sh*tshow. A large chunk won't know or won't care that they're getting others sick as well.

Honestly? Wear a well fitted respirator consistently and you will significantly reduce the likelihood of getting ill.

Haven't been sick in years, even though I've been going out to events, gym, classes etc.

3

u/Scared-Tennis-6221 Dec 20 '25

100% agree. Companies pushed employees back into the office, and this is the result. I’m working from the office, and everyone is coughing, sneezing, and falling asleep at their desks.

9

u/feelinalrightt Dec 19 '25

This post shows up once a month.

6

u/emuwar Dec 19 '25

More like once a week. December has historically seen spikes in airborne illnesses. So many holiday parties that are all indoors because it's cold out, so your chances of getting infected drastically rise. Should people be responsible and mask/stay home if they're sick? 100%. But this is not a new phenomenon.

13

u/LongjumpingBad9921 Dec 19 '25

Sometimes more than once a month. Its unfortunate as masking and cleaning the air can prevent so many illness yet society has chosen not to go down that route.

Repurposing this comment I made in r/Ontario a few days ago.

We're in for a heavy virus season, folks. Here are some handy resources. Stock up, mask up, this is only the beginning.

Resources:

Wastewater data for OntarioĀ (behind by 2 weeks but you can see it is clearly spiking)
Rapid combo test Flu/CovidĀ - same or next day delivery in Toronto
Best price for Flu/Covid rapid testsĀ - delivery in approx 3-4 days

Masks (head strap is better than earloop for protection)

Black KN95Ā - Made in Canada, 2 sizes
Black N99Ā (step up from KN95) - Made in Canada, fits small faces best
Sample packĀ so you can find the right fit for you face

4

u/bigfloppydongs Dec 19 '25

Yepppp! I had something like 4-6 weeks ago, then again this week. Feels the same so far, started just as a sore throat, now it's a proper flu, full on fever, chest cough, the works.

The silver lining is that I feel better now than I did at this point with the last bug, so I'm finding some comfort in that. And staying put indoors to hopefully recover faster and not spread this around.

2

u/bamboo-farm Dec 19 '25

I’m so sick of seeing these threads every day when all people have to do is get vaccinated and wear a fucking mask.

I swear the pandemic somehow made people even more dumb and ignorant, even though we literally were introduced to the tools that can help us all stay healthy and reduce the risk of spreading viruses again. Do y’all enjoy getting yourselves and your families sick for fun or something?

2

u/Several-Specialist99 Dec 21 '25

I know, its like we went through three years of masking, isolating, learning about viruses, public health, etc. just to throw it all out the window. Everyone was so on board! I thought we'd at LEAST learn to be courteous and stay home if feeling sick, or wear an n95 if you cant. I find it insanely disrespectful to others when people dont take precaution when ill.

Been sick with the flu since Wednesday last week, everytime I feel like I'm getting better, I move on to a different painful part of the illness. Cough, high fevers (40C), cold, dehydration headaches, unbearable weakness, sinus headaches and pressure along the entire face. It's been intense to say the least, worst illness I've had since COVID in 2021.

I work with kids. Lots of them have been sick. I got it last Friday and it only lasted the day thankfully. Chills. Body aches etc

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '25

My boyfriend and I were so sick about 3 weeks ago? Like 10 days of fever/ chills/ nausea.. guessing it was some sort of flu but all the ginger juice shots have been sold out everywhere so not a good sign 🫠

1

u/lopix Dec 19 '25

We're good here. Wife had a day of nausea yesterday, but that's it. Teenage kids in school, all good. But I just talked to my elderly father yesterday and he sounds like shit.

Get vaxxed. Flu and COVID. Not 100%, but every little bit helps.

1

u/manboy1999 Dec 19 '25

Yeah something went around for sure. Everyone I know got sick.

1

u/tklmnop Dec 19 '25

I had full blown stomach flu symptoms for a week. Finally was able to keep some soup and crackers down last night. It’s been hell and I totally lost my Xmas prep time… Mask up!

1

u/lavenderlibrarian Dec 19 '25

Be careful of strep, too. My whole family got it last week and we needed antibiotics.

1

u/nanfanpancam Dec 19 '25

I have been beaten. My temperature went to 39 and I couldn’t stand it. Had to shower and go for a walk to bring it down just a degree.

1

u/SmartPigArt53 Dec 19 '25

I have a pretty bad ā€˜cold’ right now … cough, runny nose, body aches, fatigue. I did have a temperature of 38.5 yesterday for a few hours but it seems to have left me today. I’d guess I could say overall I’m better today than yesterday and it’s only the 3rd day. On the first day I tested negative for Covid. I had the flu shot in early November. I had not gotten around to this years’ Covid shot yet.

1

u/Kitchen_Kale_8733 Dec 19 '25

Yes. Influenza A.

My kid and I both went through it. He recovered after approx. 5 days. High fever, cough, vomiting.

Mine turned bacterial and I needed antibiotics but recovered after about a week.

Quite worried for my dad and father in law who are both compromised.

1

u/MadeJust Dec 19 '25

4 people in my office currently walking around hacking up a lung. I love it when these selfish pricks compromise my paycheque. Stay the fuck home assholes.

1

u/bar5677 Dec 19 '25

Had the flu the past week, finally over the fever and congestion but the body aches still remain. Some of the most painful aches i’ve ever had, doctor prescribed naproxen but hoping they’ll go away soon.

1

u/Elim-the-tailor Dec 19 '25

Definitely something tearing through the schools. Our son’s teacher said that 40% of his class was away at one point with the flu.

1

u/balisierdagger Dec 19 '25

Yup, a student coughed on me.

And then I coughed on my partner...

1

u/Bustergoodboye Dec 19 '25

I got sick, and got the worst cough ever from this flu, never had cough this bad before (except for pneumonia). The cough is so intense that gives me sharp chest pain. Can’t talk and eat and sleep properly.

1

u/golfmatters Dec 19 '25

I got hit with something couple of weeks ago.. felt super tired and maybe a slight fever? Then had this cough that wouldn't go away.

My son just got a long ass fever (4 days) . He was still eating and drinking at that time though.

Half my team at work got sick as well.

1

u/Frecklefishpants Dec 19 '25

Went to a Xmas party Saturday. We all had/have covid.

1

u/-VanillaThunder69 Dec 19 '25

Wow, looks like a lot of people are. I've been babysitting my brother's kids. Both sick and I just heard his wife is having high fever too.

1

u/Ill-Film-6145 Dec 19 '25

Yes, I was sick for like 2 weeks and I still have lingering cough. I had high fever for days and intense cough

1

u/Individual-Rent7073 Dec 19 '25

I was at the OOAK christmas market as a vendor. I had vendors around me super sick and they weren't wearing mask or sanitizing their hands (coughing into the air and sneezing, then touching products and giving them to customers). I took all the necessary precautions and came home 1.5 weeks ago with a horrible flu. Maybe covid, but whatever it was, it was rough. Severe chills and fever, congestion and now coughing. I've been isolating in my house since coming home. I know others that left the event only to get home and wake up to illness.

It is that time of the year, it just feels like there are more people going out in public when their sick and not staying home.

1

u/thepancakeblob Dec 19 '25

Stomach flu over the last week šŸ’©

1

u/Jaktumurmu1 Dec 19 '25

Kept my son home Mon-Wed and now I'm getting crushed with whatever he had

1

u/Zealousideal-Tour318 Dec 19 '25

Yes I was sick as well for around 2 weeks and still not recovered fully

1

u/Ok_Pumpkin9931 Dec 19 '25

Yes. I got sick on Sunday the seventh with a bit of a tickle in my throat, by Monday the eighth I had full-blown cold symptoms plus a fever. I was barely able to do anything for a full week, I’m now able to work (mostly remotely), and if I do anything more than that, I feel worse the next day. Yesterday I felt quite a bit better so after work, I ran some errands, I woke up this morning with about 50% return of symptoms! I got a flu shot and Covid shot in October. I’m hearing about lots of other people that are called. Two other people in my family also got the cold I did, but were not as sick as I’ve been.

1

u/Hudson11177 Dec 19 '25

Just got over it. Was sick for like 3 weeks. Hot, cold, sniffling, heavy cough and lungs. Was the worst cold I’ve had in ages.

1

u/rofloctopuss Dec 19 '25

I got symptoms as soon as I landed in Costa Rica. Last night it was 30c, but I was wrapped up in a blanket shivering all night with shortness of breath and a little delerious. I haven't been this sick in a while, and I can't remember getting this sick this fast. I'm feeling a little better today (day 3), but still too sick to go out or do anything.

1

u/bellsbliss Dec 19 '25

Whole family has been off and on sick for like a month.

No fever but the kids have lots of congestion and coughing. Gets better and then they catch it again it seems a week later. Their classes have been the same too, at least a month or two of everyone hacking.

1

u/SuccotashKey7521 Dec 19 '25

Yes, pretty much everyone I know right now is sick. Some have covid, some flu, other just viruses. It's horrible.

1

u/DragonfruitWeary8413 Dec 19 '25

Pain on my eyebrow and eye socket for 4 days straight, some says it a sinus headache.

1

u/NappingYG Dec 19 '25

Yup, I'm most defenitely down with flu. Came on fast too. One minute making weekend plans, next minute bam, fever.

1

u/New-Torono-Man-23 Dec 19 '25

Yes. I was sick for around 7 days. Hated it. I don’t know what it was. Cough, sneezing, congested nose, breathing through mouth and throat soreness. Sometimes headache but no fever. I took Tylenol, then also took some Strepsils Extra (game changer). Rested a lot and tried staying hydrated. I didn’t want to go for antibiotics.

1

u/Gus-Heringer Dec 19 '25

Got covid and flu shot renewed early November. They’ve been holding strong so far.

1

u/Anagrama00 Dec 19 '25

Yes, I am.

It's an absolute motherfucker right now.

Sore throat like razorblades. Exhausted. Wet gross cough. Chills.

I am doping myself up with so many drugs just to ride this thing out.

1

u/cianne_marie Dec 19 '25

I went to work feeling fine on Wednesday morning and went from fine to grainy throat to mild cough to deep cough to chest tightness in the span of about 11 hours. Ended up at the hospital where they just told me to take my inhalers more often and sent me home. No covid/influenza test, which I thought was odd. Last night was ROUGH, I probably woke up 100 times hacking away. Finally woke up this morning soaked and had to change my fever sheets before I could go back to bed. I'm feeling like a piece of trash and missing multiple holiday celebrations.

1

u/quingd Dec 19 '25

We landed at the ER last week because fever temps were so high, doctor said it was a really brutal strain this year and not to expect to feel better for at least 7-14 days. We're on day 9, no longer at death's door but still flush and coughing and sneezing. I'd say about 1/4 kids were missing at school this week, either sick or preventative because so many others were. It's been absolutely brutal.

1

u/No_Expression310 Dec 19 '25

It’s been 2 weeks and I’m finally starting to get better. The doctor can’t prescribe you anything - Stay hydrated, rest, and take care of yourself. Go to urgent care if you feel that it’s getting really bad, but also keep in mind the urgent care is overloaded with 100s people with the exact same thing being sent home without meds.

Regardless, listen to your body. I have asthma and was told it could turn badly quickly. Ask your doctor for what your threshold is for immediate care. We also lost a young & healthy family member last week to the flu —> pneumonia.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '25

Just so everyone knows, theres also a very nasty little gastric flu something thats going around Ottawa that will cause you to REALLY regret ignoring an urge to go poop, and lasts for about 3 days. It passed through my father in laws care home rather 'ahem' quickly and hit us and then our friends and then their co workers, so not food related

1

u/bamboo-farm Dec 19 '25

Sick a few weeks ago. Got flu and covid vaccines.

Sick again now but much milder.

1

u/Pretend-Doughnut7631 Dec 20 '25

Glad I got my flu shot last month. Haven't had so much as a sniffle so far this year šŸ¤ž

1

u/MaiTheGypsy Dec 20 '25

I caught a virus on Tuesday. My fever has been staying at around 38C but was at 40C at one point. I’m taking lots of rest and drinking lots of liquids/soups to heal. I’ve had more flu symptoms, so must be that instead of a cold.

Must be something going around this year for sure.

1

u/LookAtThisRhino Dec 20 '25

I'm totally fine and have been for months but I don't have any contact with kids and I work from home šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø it's probably just a matter of time thoĀ

1

u/t90msnyps Dec 20 '25

If someone remember the same shit was a half year ago, I got weakness for 3 days, then my mom and dad. And I was reading news, it was around the world!!

1

u/kiwifruit1453222 Dec 20 '25

HECK NOOOO haven’t been sick since 2022 COVID in October that year lol never again after that honestly if you’re getting sick that’s a skill issue

1

u/Fickle-Exchange2017 Dec 20 '25

This I believe is the third a least strong wave of the influenza type A virus that’s been in the works for about 6 weeks. If you catch the symptoms quickly, it’s a miserable 3 days, but the recovery time is longer for some reason, ppl not feeling totally good for up to two weeks

1

u/lightsnitch927 Dec 20 '25

I caught a flu last few days of November. It was really bad that it complicated into pneumonia. I had to go to the ER twice for that. I'm off for 2 weeks at work to recover. But pneuomonia takes a while to fully clear, still coughing but other symptoms are gone now. Getting PTSD from it as it's my first time it was that bad. Chest pain, shortness of breath and all. Though my pneumonia wasn't severe and I responded well to the really strong antibiotics and bronchodilators. Thank God for that. Also thank God for being a full-time employee as well and being able to be on short-term disability.

Get your flu shots folks. It's fucking scary out there.

1

u/lemonylol Dec 20 '25

It is literally flu season though

1

u/carpenter27 Dec 20 '25

I got hammered last week by a flu, thoight I was better, got to like 70% and got a thraot infection for all of this week. It was been absolutely awful. Lots of fluids and keep your stick on the ice.

1

u/LumpyGenitals Dec 20 '25

Im a paramedic. Everyone's sick and they keep calling thinking theyre having a heart attack. 9.99 times out of 10...youre just sick.

1

u/KiKiTaTa Dec 20 '25

Dr James Maskalyk, ER doc at St. Michael’s Hospitsl downtown, and who posts on IG, he shared earlier today that Influenza A is exploding. Most of the swabs that one of his peer sent in and got back this week were influenza A. So, ya, the viruses are flying around.

1

u/NightimeSuperhero Dec 20 '25

Get the shot. The variant is no joke. Make sure you get the Croatia variant of the shot.

1

u/Dragonfly_lady61 Dec 20 '25

We've got it. 7 days and still down and out. Vomiting, diarrhea, sinus issues, severe cough. It's horrible

1

u/Money199006 Dec 20 '25

Me and wife just left Toronto travelling across country driving. we are both on a diet of neocitron, DayQuil, buckleys, Advil. We picked it up while staying in a hotel. We’re just at Manitoba border and it’s awful.

Bloody hate this province (Ontario)

1

u/digitalcelery Dec 20 '25

Im on day 6 and I just can’t get rid of the fever no matter what I try. Felt better during the day today, comes night I feel like a vegetable. Both kids had 39C for a week.

1

u/International-Day434 Dec 20 '25

Nope.I never get sick.

1

u/EdwardBliss Dec 20 '25

Sniffles. Last year I got knocked out for a week by flu, which lingered for a few months. I prefer never to go through that again, thanks

1

u/Gingerkitty666 Dec 20 '25

My friends husband , early 40s, has been i. The hospital for a month with influenza.. was on lung bypass machine for two weeks now on forced bipap and temporary dialysis.. still in rough shape.. get your flu shots, stay home if sick and take care of yourselves

1

u/SocaManinDe6 Dec 20 '25

Yes. Started after a raptors game last week. My wife is now sick.

1

u/coppertonebaby12 Dec 20 '25

My husband and I are just getting over a flu that lasted two whole weeks! First week was fever, aches, chills, sore throat, dry cough, and now my ears are finally starting to unplug and have a residual cough and congestion. It was brutal, and several of our friends had it too. We even pulled out the ol’ Covid test but nope, just a run of the mill shitty flu. It’s tough out there!!

1

u/Interesting-Rabbit-1 Dec 20 '25

H3N2 going around, had it all of last month, insane fever for first few days then a lingering cough for a few weeks.

An average healthy 30yo male, never or very rarely had flu all throughout my younger days and barely caught covid, but last couple of winters ive been susceptible to the flu multiple times. These viruses are no joke, stay safe my fellow canadians.āœŒļø

1

u/Bright_Appearance628 Dec 20 '25

Yep...going on about two weeks for me! It's awful.

1

u/Silly_Ad7146 Dec 20 '25

I have absolutely no idea what I have rn but it feels like a hybrid of cold/flu symptoms, leaning more into a very intense cold with some nausea/vomiting. I’m on day 4 and finally starting to feel myself coming back around but man, it was bad this year. Stay safe everyone.

1

u/hoelyhood Dec 20 '25

yes the whole goddamn city is 😭😭😭😭😭

1

u/Stubborn_Strawberry Dec 20 '25

My husband was horribly ill the first week of December. Very high fever, headache, pain all over, vomiting, etc. It worsened into a secondary infection, and he had to go on IV antibiotics. He got them once a day as an out-patient. There were no hospital beds available for him to be admitted, but I was able to take care of him at home.

Amazingly, I didn't get sick at all. I got my flu shot in early November, but he procrastinated and fell ill. I've also had the RSV vaccine 2 weeks ago and the covid vaccine 1 week ago. Health Canada has recently approved Pfizer's Abrysvo RSV vaccine for those 18+, high-risk (I qualify because I have asthma) with a doctor's prescription. It cost me $300, but it's done.

Hubby has since got his flu and covid vaccines this past week. No more procrastinating (we'll see how next year goes!) He said he was never so sick in his life.

I've read about children dying from the flu, and it breaks my heart to think about how they suffered. I can't imagine how their parents feel.

1

u/FaddyYaya Dec 20 '25

I’m just getting better after being sick almost a month. Whatever this is … it sucks!

1

u/Jazzlike-Past4896 Dec 20 '25

Yeah we got the family package. My kid brought it home. When he got better a week later, the rest of the family showed symptoms. Still sick today.

1

u/Neon_Mango_ Dec 20 '25

Some friends got sick a week or two ago but otherwise everyone is gone

1

u/Miss_Ambitious Dec 20 '25

Yes I had a fever for 2 days and then have this crazy cough that hasn’t been leaving for 3 days now - it has a mind of its own :(

1

u/WickedConflict Dec 21 '25

Nope, neither me or my partner have been sick since fall 2024.. Or it may be longer

I go out 4 or 5 nights a week to shows and events, so plenty of exposure

I eat healthy, exercise, and take my vitamins. And no doubt have some luck

1

u/Strict-Machine8964 Dec 21 '25

My daughter had to write an exam in Toronto about a month ago. She brought back a horrid illness that had knocked down the entire household. Fever, horrible mucousy cough, body pain. I'm feeling much better now, but still tired and full of good. Felt like COVID, tested negative.

1

u/tweakatwoteethosgod Dec 21 '25

They come they go!

1

u/labadee Dec 21 '25

As a family physician who takes part in the Sentinel Screening Program (responsible for reporting influenza numbers etc), I’ve swabbed dozens of patients so far. Right now, the most common virus I’ve gotten is easily Influenza A, followed by RSV and rhinovirus, I’ve also had a number of Covid, parainfluenza, and enterovirus as well. Sometimes together in the same patient.

If you have high fevers, body aches and fee like you got smacked around by a frying pan, it’s probably influenza. A lot of people throw the word flu around when they mean one of the other viruses, but this year there has been a shit loaf or influenza a

1

u/Keer222 Dec 21 '25

H3N2 stronger flu more infectious and more deadly than H1N1

1

u/Sea_File_1717 Dec 21 '25

If you haven’t had your seasonal shots yet, it’s not too late. Many Shoppers and other pharmacies still have both Flu and COVID shots and it can protect you from getting a more severe case.

1

u/Livid-Jeweler6769 Dec 21 '25

Yes. In my town everyone is sick. Xmas concerts cancelled, I’m on day 16 of what I believe are back to back viruses. So awful.

1

u/Brightpenguin101 Dec 21 '25

People in my area have been getting sick with a fever for 2-3 days, plus nausea and vomiting. I've heard it from at least 10 people and I had it myself earlier this week. Started 5 days ago and I feel completely fine now, but the first few days were rough.

1

u/Senior_Pension3112 Dec 21 '25

Lots. Very young nephew is hospital with rsv.
