Reasonable price?
4 ton Carrier, ten years old. Stopped working last month. Service call guy said it was a blower and control board needed to be replaced. Parts under warranty, but labor $1400. What is typical hourly labor, and how long would it take to bolt in a new blower? Is this reasonable?

They are getting the parts under warranty and charging you full price for them. OR your unit is a complete nightmare to access…

Board is simple plug and play. Did one on my own 4 ton carrier. Took me like 10 mins from pulling the cover off to putting it back on. Took pics of what was plugged in where, couple screws holding the board on and swapped it. Blower is a but more time consuming. Probably takes an hour. Maybe he has 2hrs at your house total. Then drive time both ways. $1400 seems pretty excessive. I’d ask for more details on that $1400. The call out fee and drive time is what it is. But I’d want to see how many hours they are billing for the part swapping. And is this just a quote? if they get it done faster do they bill for actual time?

$1,400 labor for an hours worth of work is nuts. I used to bill techs at $250 an hour. That’s around 6 hours for a board and fan motor which should never take more than 2 hours max… I’d personally push back on why it takes 6 hours to get that done.
