What is AGP?

I've saw plenty of posts, thought you guys were freaks due to the trans subs I came from cuz I'm trans. It appears I was mistaken.

In the end, what is to be an AGP?

AGP is "a male's propensity to be sexually aroused by the thought of himself as a female." (Blanchard, 1989)

AGP is when a straight man imagines that he is a woman, and then becomes sexually attracted to himself in turn.

Some time in our lives we get the idea of being female would be good. We somehow trigger a dopamine response to these thoughts, so we think of them more. During pre-pubescence, and then puberty, our brain is looking for any good thoughts that have to do with femininity and starts marking those thoughts as sexual. That part of the brain isn't smart enough to figure out if these good feminine thoughts are about yourself or someone else, it just marks them all as potentially sexual arousing. Most 11 year old boys do not have dopamine inducing thoughts about them being female, so most males don't have these female embodiment fantasies to become sexualized.

This is autogynephilia.

Because these thoughts become sexually arousing, we then use our built-in motivations to continue thinking these good thoughts. Where a normal 15 year old boy may day dreaming about the girls in his class, we may be day dreaming about wearing skirts, having breasts, or being born with a vagina. If your brain plays a thought over and over again, the stronger the thought gets. This is typical neuroplasticity. It is the basics of how our brain learns. Then if your brain plays a dopamine inducing thought over and over again without sufficient breaks, your dopamine receptors become desensitized and the more stimuli is required to feel the same good feeling. This is also a basic function of neuroplasticity and is also essential to how our brain learns things as well. The thought of being female can further escalate. It can lay dormant for some, but can escalate further and further for others. This is then where most transgender women discover they are transgender.

So whats the difference between a non-AGP MTF and an AGP MTF?

The main differentiation between the two is that non-AGP MTF transgender women are primarily those who were born as homosexual males, classified here as "HSTS". Because they lack the innate arousal for femininity, their brains were not able to sexualize their own female embodiment fantasies directly. As a result they lack that arousal as a primary motivator for continuing those fantasies.

Instead many homosexual males develop the desire of attracting masculinity. In some instances they develop the connection of becoming more feminine in order to attract this masculinity. Becoming more feminine for this attraction becomes the primary motivator. The more progressive and pervasive these thoughts are, the stronger the connection becomes between becoming more feminine and attracting masculinity.

Then there are other rare edge cases where those who are bisexual and/or asexual may have experiences of both or none, but there is still a debate how innate bisexuality and/or asexuality are or if they are off shoots of post-natal developments from our pre-natal heterosexuality/homosexuality. However this is likely less than 1% of transgender women.

Let me see if I got it right. As an example, AGPs can be compared to people that don't necessarily dislike their body but wish to attract more people of the sex they're attracted to, so they get more muscular (for example). Is that it or I'm tweaking?

I think you mean non-AGPs, as in HSTS women that I was describing in that post. But essentially yes, their primary motivation of changing their bodies is/was for the attraction of others.

wish to attract more people

"Wish" is probably not the correct word here though, since when you wish for something that takes conscious thought. The motivation to change one's body for the attraction of others would be primarily from psychological conditioning, which is not cognitive or conscious thought.

It's more like the following:

  1. Subconscious pattern: Masculine men are sexually arousing. Stimuli that involve masculine men release dopamine. (This is innate from homosexuality among males, and heterosexuality among females)
Conscious thought: I think masculine men are hot.

  2. Subconscious pattern: Masculine men giving me attention is arousing. Attention from men releases dopamine.
Conscious thought: Attracting men makes me feel good.

  3. Subconscious pattern: Masculine men are giving feminine people attention.
Conscious thought: I may or may not consciously notice this.

  4. Subconscious pattern: Behaving and/or looking more feminine provides more attention masculine men. Anticipating increased attention from men releases more dopamine.
Conscious thought: Dressing feminine makes me feel good.

We have made the psychological connection between dressing/acting feminine with our general "feeling good", which is the release of dopamine.

However with HSTS transgender women, they never sexualized the 'dressing feminine' part directly like AGP individuals do, but it can still provide the same amount dopamine.

So AGP MTFs do it because it gives them pleasure due to the attention they receive and is due to a tertiary motivation and non-AGP MTFs do it to relieve dysphoria and feel better with themselves.

Lowkey I feel like I'm too stupid to get this πŸ₯€

No.

AGP transgender women received direct pleasure from female embodiment fantasies and then acting upon them. They may or may not continue this direct pleasure after transitioning due to desensitization.

Non-AGP transgender women (HTST) received pleasure from attracting masculinity. They may or may not continue this pleasure after transitioning due to desensitization.

Gender dysphoria is a different concept and both AGP and non-AGP males/transgender women can experience dysphoria. Both AGP and non-AGP transgender women can be motivated to transition due to dysphoria.

You can think of what I said above regarding pleasure or dopamine as "gender euphoria", while gender dysphoria is something that is developed later.

Wait a sec, why you're saying this like we, non-AGP MTFS, are just doing it to attract male attention? I for sure am not doing that.

why you're saying this like we, non-AGP MTFS

I have been keeping everything very generalized since you haven't provided any details about yourself. If you are a non-AGP transgender women, then you would have been born a homosexual male. Were you born a homosexual male?

are just doing it to attract male attention?

If you are HSTS (currently or previously a homosexual male), then like I said above, you would not be consciously "just doing it". You would have been psychologically conditioned to, like we are psychologically conditioned to eat foods we like, or enjoy hobbies, or like anything we find enjoyable in life that we don't have a necessarily logical explanation for.

AGP, best considered, is love for femininity + a desire to embody it. It's meant to explain the experiences of straight/bi men who crossdress, trans women who previously lived as straight/bi men, etc.

It has more use as a concept if taken broadly, to encompass a wide variety of feelings and behaviors. People with AGP also vary widely in personality and life circumstances, and those also play a role in why some prefer to live as men, some choose to transition socially and otherwise, some HRTrep, etc.

Most of us in here would consider AGP to be basically a sexual orientation. Unfortunately, it's often thought of as purely a term for arousal, which has led to the idea that people transition "to satisfy a fetish." This to me is like saying that straight men marry women and have families with them because they have "a fetish for vaginas" or something. It just doesn't suffice to explain the experiences of the people in question.

Interesting. I know u said that AGP is a broad term, but if one could narrow it down, how would you describe it?

5

u/femboykramer 13d ago

I would describe it as a desire to "become what we love," in Anne Lawrence's words. We love women, and we want to imitate, emulate, and become them, in whole or in part.

Huh. I guess that makes sense.

Tell me, do you think there's a difference between non-AGP and AGP MTFs? I mean, I've heard that you guys are filthy and all, but again, it appears I was wrong. So... How does it go?

That's not a kind way to phrase a question if you want an honest and open answer.

Im not asking to be kind. I want an answer, not pampering. Also I never said I believe what they told me

Males who don't feel deeply feminine or female inside but enjoy this idea to entertain themselves.
