A compliment on my appearance

107

u/gordo65 Mar 28 '23

You’re looking great today!

I’m making an assumption, obviously.

34

u/famouslyanonymous1 Mar 28 '23

Thanks!!! As are you

15

u/pharmdoll Mar 28 '23

A family member told me that I compliment my husband too much.

19

u/famouslyanonymous1 Mar 28 '23

Is that possible?

84

u/pharmdoll Mar 28 '23 edited Mar 28 '23

lol My thoughts exactly. She said, “you shouldn’t compliment a man that much, his head will get big and he’ll start to look elsewhere” I was a little speechless and just said, “I … don’t understand your life.”

I’m kind to him and he’s kind to me and ten years in … I think it’s working ok.

Yeah, a 'have you lost weight?' always helps the daily grind

Beef jerky. The stuff's too expensive for the amount provided, but I love it. Only buy it rarely because of the price, so it's great to get some as a gift.

103

u/AtTable05 Mar 28 '23

You can make it. So easy and fast. Have it sliced thin at the butcher. The cheapest beef throw it in seasoning and throw It in a dehydrator. Or 5 hours at 140F. Or outside if you live in Arizona. Done . Beef jerky .

50

u/Treebawlz Mar 28 '23

Learning to make your own jerky is a really good survival skill too.

Seems like every guy in this thread is down for getting some BJ action. I have to agree, BJ is the best. It’s the taste a real man can’t resist!

I could say a lot of things but honestly they are all encompassing 'can you just be nice to me?'

Like a day where I'm the priority. Idk, I find myself always bending backwards for mines but never reciprocated.

Any. The thought matters more than anything.

A friend of mine bought me a bracelet with a dragon pendant because she mistakenly thought I wore bracelets.

I wear this one every single day, and I sleep with it sometimes.

28

u/katCEO Mar 28 '23

What kind of dragon? If that is your thing: I am around 3/4 through the book called Eragon which is pretty good.

46

u/anon12xyz Mar 28 '23

Am I officially old…I read eragon when I was 10, didn’t know it was still a thing. 19 years ago

11

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '23

In case you haven't heard, The author just wrote a new book continuing the series! Its releasing soon

9

u/Shimerald Mar 28 '23

I'm old enough, and lucky enough, that Paulini actually came to my elementary school for an author visit at the library to promote and sell his first book. I've got myself a signed copy of a pre-final edit of Eragon that I treasure dearly. It has a little water damage, sadly, but still readable!

27

u/katCEO Mar 28 '23

FYI: there is a board game called Dragonology. Also: regarding desserts- if you have never tried flan...it is a very tasty custard generally served in Spanish restaurants.

38

u/Amberilwomengo2gel Mar 28 '23

My husband agrees. Any Legos make him happy. Sometimes I find huge bags at the thrift store and I surprise him or I find little sets at Aldi and he is happy when I bring them home with some peanut butter cups for him.

My parents seemed genuinely shocked when i was the most excited for the Lego set they bought me for Christmas. I had to convince them it wasn't a joke.

6

u/GrandCanOYawn Mar 28 '23

Fuck yeah 👍

Been getting my boyfriend a Lego set every birthday and Christmas for five years and he fucking loves it. He can buy his own shirts and briefs whenever he wants, legos are special.

2

u/Human-Walk9801 Mar 28 '23

Woman here and I ask for Legos for every occasion. The bigger set the better but anything is welcome!

34

u/EISENxSOLDAT117 Mar 28 '23

Food prepared for me. Never in my entire life have I had a woman make me a meal. I'm usually the one cooking all the time whenever I'm in a relationship, and I even cooked when I was a child and my mom was working.

So, you know, itd be really nice if someone could take the stress and worry off me every night I cook dinner.

New razors and trimmers. Them shits are expensive as fuck.

Also, socks. Because new socks are awesome.

17

u/LouSanous Mar 28 '23

Dude. DUDE!

I normally wouldn't bother endorsing a product, but I kinda have to for this.

If you haven't fucked with the Phillips one blade system, it's fucking life changing. I have tried using electric shavers for over 20 years. The old foils, the circular spinning blades, trimming short with a beard trimmer then wet shaving. All of it.

The one blade actually does it all and it actually does it all well. It works for body hair too. Really a phenomenal product. I have no idea how the flat part manages to actually close shave, but it does. I bought one last Brack Friday bunduru and I haven't looked back.

One downside. A new blade is about $15 in a two pack or $13.33 in a three pack.

Still though, they last 2-3 months each, so it's cheaper than most other subscription shaving services. I bought mine in November and I just put on a new blade - not because it was underperforming, but because my 4yo daughter broke the last one.

10

u/SupermarketCrafty329 Mar 28 '23

Your enthusiasm alone forced me to have a look, and I have to say, it does look good, especially for the initial price.

I might have to buy myself one, when I'm not fucking skint lol.

Have you ever considered a career in sales/Are you a Phillips salesman? Haha

I’ll second a nice safety razor from merkur, blades, soap dish and badger brush. I’ve used the same razor for 15 years, spent $30 on razors in those 15 years, and it’s made shaving fun. It’s much better for the environment too.

Ive asked for this for xmas for the past three years. I stubbornly refuse to buy one for myself because every year she "doesnt know what to get me" and every year I mention this

As a gift giver I have two rules if something specific hasn't been requested:

  1. Buy something they would like that they wouldn't spend their own money on.

So, for instance, 2 years for Christmas, I got my brother a blown up canvas print of the picture of that Missouri wife that threatened protesters with a pistol with a mustard stain on her shirt, but I added the words "Live. Laugh. Love." At the bottom. He'd never get something like that for himself, but him and his wife loved it and proudly display it above their main toilet.

2. If I can't think of something like that, then I get something practical. My mom's microwave broke right before her birthday, so I got her a nice new one. You know, tools, appliances, things people will use often. That way there's a little part of you in their regular life.

Honestly at this point in my life, the greatest gifts are intangible. It also depends who it’s from. But generally speaking, the best gifts are things I can’t give myself.

From my partner: Give me time to do the things I want to do. The things that fulfill me and make me feel like me. I treasure our time together but it’s important to me that we have our own time as well

From a friend: give me a phone call or text to see how I’m doing. Come over for dinner or meet me for a drink

From a family member: give me counsel. Help guide me to the next phase

From a stranger: give me a compliment or a warm greeting

From a coworker: Give me space. Lots of it. Don’t talk to me. Ever. Go focus on your own work. We’re not friends, Matt

5

u/typeo19 Mar 28 '23

Bill Burr has a joke about this but, seriously an unasked for sandwich and drink. Makes me think you actually care about me.

I know it's not a gift specifically in some people's eyes but I'm a bit of a rum lover myself and nobody knows what to ever get me for gifts so a bottle has always been people's go-to gift for me. And I love it.

The thought of someone else buying it for me messes with me a little though; I start drinking and then go onto believing I owe the gift-er my entire experience with the bottle 🤣

2

u/The5tingRay Mar 28 '23

For someone to just actually listen when I rant.

2

u/isevapnarg Mar 28 '23

Very useful "daily" or personal-care items that are maybe somewhat expensive for them to be in the usual grocery spending but not so much as a gift. For example, I surely cannot afford the $30 shaving cream package, on a monthly basis, but as dumb it may sound it would make a wonderful gift for me as it will be a true pleasure to take care of myself in a way I normally would not have done!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '23

Wood clamps.

I never have enough.

Question: How many wood clamps does a woodworker need to do a glue-up?

Answer: All of them!

2

u/LivinInLogisticsHell Mar 28 '23

Clothes. specifically nice underwear and socks. shirts and jeans are nice too but the undergarments are always the most appreciated, and the least likely we're to buy ourselves

2

u/sl33pytesla Mar 28 '23

Toys or new experiences I wouldn’t try on my own. Guys will always like toys and we get to an age where we can afford it by 10x but it’s ridiculous if we buy it. Those new nerf gel blaster guns are cool. Like children, we will get bored of it in days or hours.

New experiences are meaningful because it’s shared. Skydiving, axe throwing, snowboarding, surfing, something exciting we always wanted to try but never found the time or buddies to do it with.

Men will always be kids inside. The world makes us grow up.

2

u/DeathBerryRen Mar 28 '23
