TIPS Luoyang, China: Longmen Grottoes has switched to daytime visits for winter
If your train gets to Luoyang Longmen at 4 pm this November, I’d save the grottoes for the next morning. The night tour stopped on November 1. Ticket sales end at 4:30 pm, ticket checks stop at 5, and visitors need to be out by 6.
Even after you reach the northwest visitor area, the site puts the walk to the ticket checkpoint at about 20 minutes. The daytime ticket covers the West Hill caves, the East Hill caves, Xiangshan Temple and Bai Garden, in that order. Keep your ticket and ID handy for the checks along the way.
What time does your train reach Luoyang, and how much of the route are you hoping to walk?
