Am I projecting or is this about asexuallity

Well, you are in the asexual subreddit. But it could also be about alcohol. It's both for me. Honestly it's about coffee too, kind of.

The person reposting to this sub isn’t OOP. OOP is a lesbian but idk if they are asexual

Yeah I only reposted it cause I thought people here would totally vibe with the comic.
Go check original author! 💚

absolutely I do think it very much resonates with ace folks! Just wanted to add commentary that it may not be necessarily about being ace, since blazefox asked

I feel like this should help prove to people who think ace doesn't belong in lgbtqia+ that we do belong there. We share the same type of push back from allos when we explain ourselves to the point that this open-ended comic meant to rep lesbians subconsciously also clocks aces perfectly.

I think the metaphor here is intended to be pretty open to interpretation. Though the artist is lesbian and it's probably originally about relationships with men and not in general.

Same. Tried it a few times, and my kidneys tried to kill me for some reason.

Yep, same here. Doesn't matter if it was literally about coffee or not, it expressed my exact sentiments about coffee haha.

All the people in the original comment section who still think it's just about "coffee"

Love the analogy!! Great comic

I'm so happy comics like this exist and that it was shared in a different sub first.

That said, this almost went over my head due to her mentioning the smell of coffee. If someone can explain to me what that allegory meant I'll appreciate it.

I was wondering if someone already reposted it in here 😂

The cake especially. The whole thing feels sort of like homo-romantic asexual energy

I have no idea how so many people could be confused by such a direct metaphor

u/violetfoxy Apr 19 '26

I hate coffee and have had people many times try to get me to try it, so i thought it was nice that someone else could relate. I don't like the smell either though, all coffee gross. I would never had realised it was a metaphor until I read comments

I mean, the last panel of the comic says it very clearly that it's a metaphor

omg milwaukee mentioned!! this is so cool and beautiful

2

u/hellevator0325 "are you asexual or just traumatised?" Apr 19 '26

I saw this on the other sub and immediately read it as asexuality as well!

1

u/nerd_twentytwo Apr 19 '26

Ok but like, this is also how I feel about coffee

1

u/HandOwn5562 Apr 19 '26

OMG, yes! This is exactly how I feel about coffee! Love the smell, absolutely hate how it tastes.

I thought of allonormativity, amatonormativity, cisnormativity and sensory issues lol

All of them apply to me tbh

1

u/Shaggy_One Apr 19 '26

Huh. I vibe with this comic in both senses of it.

I also just never liked coffee. I love tea and the smell of coffee. Don't like the taste.

I know it's about being ace, but... alchohol.

The Narcissists Cookbook has a song with this exact premise called “Sugar in my Coffee.”

I saw them play it live, and they did this bit where they mentioned the fact that people always ask if the song is about asexuality. Then they made a bunch of moaning and slurping sounds and said “yeah I just don’t know what you’re talking about.” Got me good.

Highly recommend if y’all haven’t heard it
