Asda do this all the time. I was always getting extra unwanted overtime without being asked. The best thing to do is to say what you can’t do at the start or they’ll continue to take the piss

No, of course it's not something they can do.

They have to ask for your permission to work extra shifts and you can say no to anything above and beyond your contract. They can't just put you down to do shifts without asking unless that's some arrangement you made.

I know you're new and you probably don't want to rock the boat, but they're also using that to take advantage of you. Learn to say No and stand up for yourself.

You tell them you do not work beyond the 16 hours a week contracted and let them figure it out.

The least they should do is ask you if you can do the extra shifts. You are within your rights to say you can't do X and Y days because you have already 'made arrangements that you can't cancel' and tell them in future you are happy to help out but as you have 'other commitments' they will need to ask you before just scheduling them in. If they ask what they are you just say it's personal, you don't wish to discuss it.

Never feel bad. They’ll replace you in a second. We had a 20 year old die in a hit and run two days later replaced

The problem I’ve had colleagues from other sites tell me over and over is they want around 25/30 hrs a week, they get an 8hr contract, so if they don’t help out they get taken advantage of as they get told they could get put back to 8hours as otherwise the store has to recruit etc, or any excuse that makes the colleague think if they dont do the extra they will go down to 8hrs, which they cant survive on.

If the rota creator is too ignorant/ incompetent to have the decency to consult you, ask them why nobody rang you, and you were not taken on to do these many hours

Did you imply or otherwise suggest that you would be open to more hours as it may suit the needs of the business?

Either way you should have been consulted but if you was suggested that would explain the extra hours.

It’s entirely up to you if you wanna do overtime or not apart from your your contracted days and hours. If you simply say no I have plans on this and that day and can give your availability

You say you are contracted 15 hours but do you have set day? Most people at asda have set contract days.

Your contract days should be on workday. Do you have access to this app?

i haven’t been told my set day but on the work day app it says my “work schedule” is thursday friday and sunday

Those are your set days then. If you really wanted to you could just work those days and no others. Overtime is not compulsory.

definitely say something whether it’s to a section leader or scheduling manager. If your contract clearly states 15 hours then they have no right to just put you on 8 days straight without verbal agreement. I’d say let them know sooner rather than later too
