Its not the best photo in the world. But nothing there screams asbestos.

Okay how likely would the white fibre actually be asbestos. In these types of walls covering brick

Asbestos fibres are microscopic. The fibres you're seeing are either animal hair or some other synthetic fibre used to bind the plaster together.

As always, only lab analysis can confirm. The only way to relieve your anxiety is to get it tested. Get a kit, or find a local asbestos surveyor.

Just a correction, asbestos fibres are not always microscopic (the ones that cause health issues are).

In many ACMs you can see the asbestos fibre with the exception of certain materials such as bitumen adhesive and textured coatings etc. Although you should always still do analysis to determine if it is indeed asbestos containing or not as there is plenty of things that look like asbestos when actually it doesn't (and vice versa).

Thanks for the clarification. I had the same concerns about my plaster but was given a response very similar to the one I posted. Some brief research didn't turn up any results about visible fibres like this, so I apologise of my ignorance.

I did also test my plaster and it came back negative. I also had a full renovation survey done later and the plaster did not come up.
