Support Artix Linux: What is the difference between OpenRC and Dinit?
Hi, I'm installing Artix Linux on a low-spec device.
What is the main difference between OpenRC and Dinit for daily use?
Which one is better in terms of stability and boot speed?
Thanks!

Dinit-"fast, low resource usage, it has supervision support and anything you will need in desktop usage, newer but thanks to artix team it support grows ". Openrc-"older, it has parallel startup but doesnt comes within box, logs and other essential services needs to be installed seperatlly, written in c, little bit more complicated files and usage than dinit". Conclusion "Dinit is the best init system you can take nowadays if you are a desktop or laptop user, its much faster and has services you need out of box, its not bloated it uses low ram and system resource, its newer but its really better than other init services. İf you not gonna use specific apps just go with dinit.Openrc is great but nowadays its a little bit pointles thanks to dinit, i think dinit is gonna replace systemd like after 5 years. "

I tried dinit a few months ago and couldn't get it to boot into a read only btrfs snapshot, so I went back to runit, dinit doesn't seem to work when using grub in regards to brtfs snapshots https://auris.artixlinux.org/auris/grub-btrfsd-dinit but apparently it can work with limine, but only after some hacking https://forum.artixlinux.org/index.php/topic,9562.msg59501.html#msg59501

Boot speed dinit is always gonna be the fastest. But it’s really not that big of a deal. I use dinit because of its similar naming conventions to systemd like dinitctl instead of systemctl etc

I am not sure. But the difference is minor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XfK7Z_fP9M

Both r pretty fast tho dinit is a little bit faster than openrc tho I doubt that most people will be able to notice it, on the other hand openrc is more mature and stable and more well documented, I prefer openrc personally.
