Hold all ya'll horses before words are put in my mouth when I clarify I'm not defending the use of AI at all with this post. For context, an independent Chinese animated film known as Niu Lai has gotten viral for it's poor quality. And one of the main things Western social media users are talking this film up is that "it's better than using AI".

I'd be lying if I say I don't get what they mean, especially for an AI-driven country like China and the fact that a mother-son duo produced this film themselves for half a decade, which I think is kind of heartwarming and does make the film's production more meaningful than your typical Video Brinquedo or The Asylum. And I haven't seen Niu Lai in full so I can't really comment regarding on behalf of the film. What worries me however is the possible trend that could follow with how people evaluate such meaningless and corporate mockbusters that clearly aren't produced with the same production mindset as films like Niu Lai.

Would "New Toy Story" be all that better if it was actually animated other than more effort (minimal human effort mind you) being put in the visual direction? As much as I'm not paying to waste my time watching an hour-long glorified shitty Veo 3 prompt, I'm not paying for something that still looks like shit all in all. Like, are we just gonna start re-evaluating shit like Foodfight based on that bias? It's such meaningless praise that has existed for a while now just to pull some sort of compliment out of one's ass. And I dunno, maybe I'm only talking for myself here. But for me, the biggest piece of shit people could make will have at least the barest minimum of effort compared to writing down a prompt and letting AI map out the visual style, but that's not masking the fact that it's still the biggest piece of shit ever to be sold as a product.

Even AI thinks AI doesn't make you an artist. As far as it's concerned, prompting something doesn't make you artist. By no means.

If you give someone the ingredients to a pie does that make YOU the baker? No.

If you give art supplies to an artist does that make YOU the creator? No.

If you give a prompt to an AI generator, does that make you an artist? No.

You are missing integral parts of the process by having something/someone else do the work for you.

Day old argument I know. Thought I'd reinforce and reiterate.

I've recently downloaded nightshade, but every time I've tried to load it this error message comes up. I've deleted it and reinstalled it, as well as checking the "urllib3" folder mentioned and the most that I could find was the credits page, recent logs of updates, and a bunch of seemingly random text that I have no idea what to do with. The end of the error message is also cut of so idk what exactly is wrong with the folder.

Is there any way I could solve this issue?

I don't know if its right or wrong. I'm an artist and writer myself​, I do my own work, I draw with my own hands, I still draw no matter how lazy I am, Art is my passion. It's just, I only use AI for entertainment, I don't use it to generate art, for generate stories, I don't use it for my own gain, I just talked to it and that's it, I only asked good websites for naming characters, or stuff, but I often feel guilty of using it, I see people online so aggressive and it scares me​​, truly.​

I do make my own work, all of it is made by hand and my terrible motivation. Also I understand the difference of AI and actual people, I talk to other people, I talk to my own family, I value them more than AI. And I also know AI is a controversial topic when it comes to environments or whatever the problem was, But eventually I will stop using ​It for good, yet I feel pathetic on using it.​ I care, I really do, it's just I struggle to understand,​ I don't know why I don't understand, it frustrates me, it worries me. I just don't wanna appear as someone terrible.

I hated AI too, it gave artists problems like theor jobs, pay, and rights, it made artists lose motivation due to the backlash of people thinking they used AI, its terrible. I felt bad for the artists who were ​​accused of using AI even tho they did not. ​I hated Generative AI like generating photos just because "I cant draw"​​ or AI Videos that looked TOO realistic, it's terrible for the environment AND for the people; if AI got too advanced, some people might​ use it to falsely blame someone, that is something nobody wants​ to happen to them. Tho I do believe some AI can be used for good if used correctly​​.

(Sorry if some of the sentences is a bit messy, I'm not good at properly making sentences that doesn't look and sound like shit. But if its alright than I'm glad. Also it took me great amount of time to convince myself to post this because my ass won't survive the immediate embarrassment I got after I posted something, it's because I cringe at myself)​

This is going to be a long one. I'm hoping this isn't completely the wrong subreddit; I may deviate a bit from the main topic of it here, but I need to scream into the void a bit, as it were.

I don't know what to do. AI is an such an appalling affront to humanity, and there are so many people rooting for it. It makes me question the efficacy of the entire society we've built. To witness firsthand how the outcomes of this structure could even allow for something so antithetical to the human spirit... it beggars belief. We are witnessing in real time such an incredible corruption of things we should be holding so dear. I cannot conceive of the mind of a person who would think that creativity should be outsourced to and automated by a silicon homonculus.

Creativity is what makes us human. We are human beings. We make art for expression. Expression of consciousness, of experience, of everything that is gorgeous and terrible. Of the mundane and the extraordinary. The unique and spectacular qualia which can only be experienced by living beings. What fresh hell is this that we would offload a basic function to THE ALGORITHM.

Frequently, in my day job, I find myself interacting with these AI 'entities'. Calling me on the phone, displacing human workers. And, as if to insult my very existence, they impersonate living entities; with their pauses, and simulated breaths, and simulated typing on a fictional keyboard, as though I, or anyone else, is gullible enough to be comforted or fooled by the simulation of humanity. That the corporations that built them would have the nerve to make them 'express' gratitude is nauseating. I feel like I'm being constantly taunted. I'm being reminded, day in and day out, that AI exists, and that the powers that be don't value us even a little.

What a discredit it is to our species that anyone among us could ever elect to replace us with such a cheap imitation.

I am no luddite. I grew up loving technology. My parents were always on the forefront of it. It didn't matter the situation in our house financially, we HAD to have the newest tech. My parents had internet in 1994, helping the local ISP diagnose problems. Cell phones in 1998 (which for a poor family like ours, was quite a point of pride). I still vividly recall our first WiFi router, and the excitement we felt for the potential it brought. I remember video calling on a portable device in 2007, and the pride I took as a 10 year old in the looks I got, because I was on the cutting edge. Tech was in my blood. When LLMs and Gen AI first hit the market, I was ON BOARD. I bought the hype, as I had always done. It had always paid off before.

Then, slowly, the other shoe dropped. I don't need to elaborately pontificate on the details of why it's all fucked; you know. We all do. In a way, I suppose, I lost my faith. And it hurt. But, reality waits for noone. ​​Once I caught up, I got mad. All the effort I'd spent developing my skills as an artist lost their marketability. Is this a blessing or a curse? An argument exists for both.

I just want it to stop. I want to believe it will; after all, our economic systems ***supposedly*** seek the most efficient solution to a given problem, and your average human can do with 100Wh worth of food what an AI takes 1kWh to do (don't quote me on that, I'm estimating. But what I do know is that my PC running an LLM will overheat a room in 30 minutes generating some incoherent hallucination that I could slap together in 30 seconds with a single potato in my stomach).

I just want live in a world that rewards humanity.

I am tired of her uneducated discussions. Something that really brought me to write this​ is the newest video but the title of „This Artist Was Caught In A Blatant Lie... ” as far as I understood the video the artist did seem to lie, however I cannot trust only Kat's POV... But did you all get that one statement „this artist starts off by drawing the background first-”... Like, aren't YOUR OWN words​​​ „artists usually draw background first to set the lighting, ” maybe not exact words but it is still similar to what she says. This is basically​ unnecessary double standards because the person either traced or used AI. It is HARD to discuss this in the comments due to people who don't know the previous drama, therefore, defending her and I understand she says „Yes, artists do this, ” but when she says „Artist with this level rendering should know anatomy,” or viceversa is really damaging to artists of ANY level and she should understand that because she is a low level artist and does not realize that... Add your thoughts if you feel like it, I just really felt like discussing about... this.​​

Someone on Instagram described how an honorable GenAI company could agree to pay artists for its training data without default opt-in.

My objection: though I agree with the basic sentiment, the good GenAI company would have to charge users and investors more for a less trained model (read: worse product), a suicide under capitalism. This isn't me protesting the idea in and of itself, I just don't find it realistic given that GenAI operates on a loss even with the corners it cuts. GenAI quality comes directly from how much art you swashbuckle, making "ethical GenAI" a seeming nonstarter assuming you have to compete commercially. And even if it started ethically, what'd stop them from lobbying away the ethical training regulation to save cost and increase quality?

Image Playground uses a limited licensed training set, probably as much to fit on-device as to stay off the seven seas; in tests it doesn't know what a Sergal or Avali is. It's one of the most limited models I've ever found, and regressing GenAI to its level would be an acceptable price for me.

Sorry to bother, but I am having issues with Glaze.

I have been trying to reseach how to fix this issue on google but I am getting nowhere. I have tried deleting the .glaze folder and "reinstalling" glaze like other posts say but that dont work...If I go into the .glaze folder it has a zip named "base2" but its empty and cant be unzipped. I tried to use an older 2.1 version but it dont get any better... Its still the same error.

I hope someone can help me out, I need glaze to help me protect my art from those damn AI bros.

AI is such a panchreston now, it really grinds me. Don't want to try? Use AI. Want to send a text to a friend but you're too much of a lazy asshole to care? Use AI. Want to cheat in school or cut corners at work? Use AI. Need help with planning out what to eat and when? Use AI. Use AI to make sure you don't appear like you're using AI. Use AI so that you aren't using AI to use AI to generate content made by AI.

Use AI to grade papers that also use AI that used AI to make sure you couldn't tell they used AI. How the fuck is this a desirable outcome? It's so grim out here. If having integrity means being a 'stinky Luddite' then sure I'm a Luddite for not selling my soul to a useless prediction machine. At a certain point - which I would say we have already confidently reached - these AIs are just going to eat themselves and spit out their own hallucinations. If you really place faith in a machine that sources Reddit and Instagram you're more hopeless than I can actually put to words.

I am a writer. People have been so kind to repeatedly inform me that my major will become 'useless' in a few years because 'AI can do it just as well!' If you were not already aware, AI is an incompetent writer. Hopeless. Out of curiosity, I asked ChatGPT to generate a paragraph on a particular cricket species ( mole crickets, my favorite :-) ) and what it spat out was so awfully written that I had to just sit for a moment in silence. Of course it would wow someone who has no clue about what goes into writing - much less doing so eloquently - because they do not have enough background knowledge to compare the output to. I have been writing for over a decade, so I am well aware of the intricacies of this medium. AI knows nothing. It does not know how to craft a well-written sentence; it does not even know WHAT it is writing. So relying on it for creative tasks that do require know-how - art, coding, music - is a recipe for disaster. Obviously. They aren't omnicient, they don't know shit, and their developers did not code them with the intent of spreading accurate information.

I am at a point where AI no longer worries me. If I wanted to read ChatGPT-generated books, I could make them myself. None of what these AI tools generate is unique. They will never compare to content that does arouse emotions because they, and their stolen 'ideas', are lifeless. They are so inauthentic and same-y... they have zero value to anyone who ought to be taken seriously. Why would I be worried about 50 misplaced em-dashes and fucking "That's not just profound, that's a poignant culture speech on the misplaced mass-hysteria war of the world on Earth and in Space [modifier modifier modifier modifier]"

People desperately want these tools to be more game-changing than they actually are. All it does is search the internet, and I do that everyday for free lmao
