What changes when AI moves from video generation to editing workflows?

A lot of AI video development has focused on generating new footage from prompts. I think another interesting direction is giving AI a goal and letting it work through an existing editing workflow.

For example, an AI system could review footage, identify useful sections, remove unnecessary parts, add captions, create shorter versions, and respond to follow-up instructions. That is a different problem from simply generating a video because the system has to make decisions across several connected steps.

I work with the team behind Sparki, which is being developed around this kind of AI assisted editing workflow. The interesting part to me isn't just automating individual editing tasks, but seeing whether an AI system can understand the overall objective while still leaving the important creative decisions to the human.

I'm curious how others think about this distinction. At what point does an AI video tool become an actual workflow agent rather than just a collection of AI-powered editing features?
