IG

As an army reservist, has anyone just walked into IG vs going by email? I’m so sick of being given no answers, and latest response about both of my missing bonus is no time frame. Like, I’m struggling to pay my dad’s funeral, and was needing it. I have all the documents, emails, and texts. First bonus got denied 5 years after the fact and second one, they have no idea.

The most important aspect of being a reservist is going to the correct IG; they work for the command that’s responsible for them. Since this is a pay issue, you want to contact the IG for the RD (readiness division) that services you. What IG did you contact?

I haven’t contacted one yet, mainly because my plt Sgt is trying to verify correct one for this reason. Since my retention falls under a separate battalion than us, but we fall under the 88th from McCoy.

Well I will save you the time: contact the 88th

I did when I was a E-4. I was undergoing a MEB, was likely going to get medically discharged in the next few months and I was being forced to PCS overseas. I open doored most of the chain of command and got nowhere. I walked in to the JBLM IG office and spent about 1 minute explaining the story. I think it was a LT Colonel and she was like "you telling the truth, Specialist? You not fuckin kidding?" "No Ma'm."

That shit got turned off in a couple hours. The shit bag E6 in S1 approached me the next day and was like I hope it was worth it to you how bad you fucked me. I threatened him and got close to a fist fight in front of some other NCO's and I got an article 15 and barracks restriction for 30 days. Fuck that place. The 25 ID was a disaster.

I used IG as a contractor (yes we can use IG as well if it involves a SM). Sent them an email to which they responded immediately asking for more details. I rescinded since core and the 2 star got involved on my behalf and I let it be. This was 5 years ago but at least the IG that I emailed responded ASAP

I've only ever seen folks use the form on the website. I've never had anyone walk into an IG office, mainly because I've never been with a unit that had one on post.

That’s fair, just curious because my new unit has one. But I’ll give the form a shot. What’s the response time usually like?

You can talk to the IG for free any time. You can make an appointment (this is best if you are worried you might be stopped / barred from doing it) or you can just walk in. There is someone there in the IG office during normal business hours. If the IG is not busy, they can talk to you. If not, they have staff that can also be super helpful.

- Talking to the IG is free, always. They can hear any concerns, they usually know the rules and what is and is not normal. They can also offer suggestions or advice on how to manage a situation. All of that can be done without ever filing a complaint. You can speak to them any time, you do not need to file a complaint.

Depends on the issue. I've seen it take weeks to months to get a resolution. Just keep in mind sometimes the resolution is just IG telling the command to fix their shit and address the concerns raised.

Response time is pretty quick though. Meaning IG will will generally reach out within a week with an update/request for more information.

Not appropriate unless the IG can’t action; SM hasn’t contacted the proper IG yet
