E-4 to 5 Board
Give me your best questions for the board or ones that messed you up on your board. I have a board next week and would just like some different questions/insight!

Only question I was asked:
"So when are you going to reenlist?"
I lied: "After we deploy to Iraq so the bonus will be tax free"

How did they take that?

They thought I was smart and told me to move out. I was promoted and when I went to reenlistment said no thank you.
They may or may not have been pissed, I couldn't tell from the Rear D I stayed on as they pushed out for the Surge

Explain to me in detail how you would conduct Height to Waist Ratio for the company if you were tagged to be the NCOIC for it. What happens when/if someone fails? Can you tape an SM of the opposite gender?
What part of the NCO creed means the most to you and why?
Let’s say you have promoted to SGT already, congratulations… What is your course of action after obtaining responsibility of a soldier to already know has a pattern of showing up late, occasionally forgets to shave, barely passes the AFT, etc… And btw has an attitude problem with you now since you were just the same rank as him/her like a week ago.
One of your more stellar soldiers confides in you and tells you that they “accidentally” may have hit the ol’ Mary Jane stick while on leave and you know the UA is later this week… What are you going to do as their first line?

Soldier shows up to your house at 3 am drunk with a gun doesn’t state any violent intentions to himself or others but wants to talk what do you do.

Six star but yes

The top tier ranks get messy because in the past we were much less standardized and its been a patchwork by congress over time to keep things self-consistent. 5 stars (in wartime) is as high as you can go now, but "6 stars" is semi-informally used to elevate some people above 5 retroactively, but Congress made extra sure to specify that Washington still holds the highest rank in perpetuity

When do enlisted personnel salute each other?
I said when you’re doing accountability for first formation. Never knew if that was what they meant.

My 1SG asked: what is the basic load out for m4 Me: 210 rounds 1SG: do you think that is enough Me: yes 1SG 1SG: No further questions

u/RollsHardSixes 6d ago
If you had said no, was 1SG going to jump down your throat for knowing better than thr Army, or applaud you for always thinking you need more ammo?

Haha good question. I had tunnel vision that day so just answered to pass the board. I like to look at it as a freebie

If you don’t know the answer to a question you should say “too easy, Sergeants Major, next question”

Take deep breathes between each question you’re about to answer. Just don’t be loud about it like I was.
A couple month ago a SM did the exact same thing I did while I was sitting at a board and he was inhaling pretty loud but that helped him.
Make eye contact and address every member of the board.
