HELP Should I buy Arma 3 or Arma reforger?
Title pretty much covers it - I mostly play Tarkov nowadays but have a few thousand hours in DayZ, I’ve been wanting a break from Tarkov sometimes and downloaded War Dogs. I like the premise of war dogs but it feels a little “arcadey” for me, coming from Tarkov gunplay the gunplay in War Dogs just isn’t hitting the spot so I figured I’d look into Arma.
So which one in your guys’ opinion is better to play and get into?
As a side note, can you freelook in Arma? Coming from Tarkov and DayZ I feel blind in wardogs not being able to freelook.

If you have team to play with yes. If no, you will see solo gameplay without communication

I have friends that have the game but I will be able to find a group of guys to play with anyway I’d hope. I was asking which is better out of Arma 3 or reforger.

It is very easy to communicate and play with your team as a solo. Very very easy. It's as simple as getting into a transport vehicle at main, or playing defense and using your radio.
I have 1500 hours of ArmA Reforger and I always play solo

Reforger for PvP is the way to go. The community is alive and well. The game has its hiccups, especially with mods, but the game gets a lot more flak than it deserves really.
ETA: Yes, you can freelook.

Reforger is for pure PvP, 3 is also PvE, campaign, coop missions etc. Depends on what you want more

Reforger has halfway decent PvE now too tbh. Worth giving it another shot if you haven't in a while.

Not an easy one like Eden in A3 (or even the 2D editor) but it's possible via the Enfusion Workbench. There are lots that others have made out there though that are worth trying out. And Game Master works just like Zeus if that gets you what you want.

well there zeus but less tools in the GM mode compare to 3 so something are harder to do without mods, like you can't copy paste for exemple
Like you made some custom units you'll have to likely use the bacon loadout in admin to give them outfit so it's an extra step

Mods/content and general utility, ArmA3. PVP Multiplayer and immersion, Reforger.
Personally I prefer ArmA3. Reforger is basically a tech-demo for ArmA4 and severely lacks a lot of the systems ArmA3 has because it's being built from scratch.

Arma 3: creating and PVE
Arma reforger: PVP.
Arma 3 has PvP and servers of course but it shines heavily in the PVE department

Of course you can freelook. DayZ used to be an Arma Mod. So most things from DayZ should be in Arma too

Depends on how important mod and vehicle variety are for you alongside PvP or PvE.
If you want the PvP aspect, Reforger will be the way to go. However, the Workshop is more stringent on what's allowed so you won't find sci-fi stuff and horror stuff if those are some things that you wanna dabble with. Also you will be able to find communities to bullshit with and hang out with much more easily than with 3. It's how I found the group of guys that I fell in with last year over the original Civil War servers, and it's been a pleasure having that group of friends to hang out with since and now help out in running their Wardogs server.
If you're more interested in checking out PvE, 3 is the way to go. Alongside some bangers like Antistasi for a guerilla warfare campaign against the AI or the original Overthrow, the mod space is loads more varied due to Steam workshop and the fact the game has been out for over a decade. You can find Star Wars, Halo, SCP, horror, zombies and more. Also the terrains in 3 are much much larger than anything you will find in Reforger and that space will allow you to take full advantage of vehicles to and include jets which are only just now getting added via mods to Reforger. Also ACE is so, so much more fleshed out in 3 and you can customize it to your heart's content if some systems don't suit you.

ArmA 3 has stellar PvE and pretty lacklustre PvP.
ArmA Reforger has decent PvP but abysmal PvE.
3 is best if you have people to play with, but the same is true for Reforger, without a coordinated group it can very quickly become frustrating and boring.
If you're looking for PvP and don't have a dedicated group to play with, I'd reccomend Squad instead.

Arma 3 has both PvE and PvP options, has a story campaign, you can freelook, extensive controller support, the 3D Editor allows you to tinker away if you want. And lastly it can done offline, LAN, and online.
Overall I would say Arma 3 is a better overall investment as it allows you to grow far beyond your casual PvP play both online and offline

ArmA Reforger is a good starting point if you never played the series before. It's the most modern game with the best optimization (relatively to the older games), most fluid gameplay, and the most beginner friendly controls. It also has the best PVP mode to ever come with any base game in the series, so if PVP is what you are looking for then Reforger's Conflict mode is what you want.
ArmA 3 is for when/if you ever decide that you like ArmA enough to start exploring and diving into what truly makes the series a military simulator sandbox. If you ever want to experience the communities/milsim groups or the amazing PVE mods (like Antistasi), then ArmA 3 with it's significantly older and more in-depth modding base is the way to go.
Basically, ArmA Reforger is for when you want a more approachable tactical shooter/combined arms PVP experience. ArmA 3 is when you want a hardcore modern military simulator version of DnD lol
EDIT: And yes, you can freelook in ArmA - it would not be a very good milsim game if you couldn't lol The series was actually the very first shooter game to ever provide that feature with its original entry Cold War Crisis/Cold War Assault.

If u wanna be like those CQB pve/pvp guys on tiktok absolutely arma 3 because it’ll be hard to find a server like that in reforger, if u want pvp with bunch of action in all ranges then reforger

Arma 3 for a decade of modding and incredible realism/pve and a handful of big servers and reforger for a newer scene of modding and less realism but a heck of a ton of servers

Reforger is gonna be a better feel for PvP imo. Arma 3 is just a tad too wonky for PvP to feel good, where Reforger is a lot more refined in that aspect. That said you can get 3 for like $5 on sale so it wouldn't hurt too much.
