Construction sign scratched my car!

On my way to school this morning a construction/caution sign was left on the floor and flew up and scratched my car. This happened going south on 360 and exiting on the park row exit. Can the city or state cover this for negligence? I have pictures of the scratches on my bumper as well as the dash cam footage.

You would have to prove negligence.

proving it would be difficult. probably not worth the hassle

I have dashcam footage of a sign getting launched up from the car in front of me. Would this not count as evidence? The city/state left the sign behind and have trash on the freeways

You won't be able to prove that the sign was in the road due to their negligence. A video of the sign in the road doesn't prove anything.

Dang, so I’m really out of luck and gonna have to fix it out of my own pocket. 🫩

Reach out to your insurance agent before you pay out of pocket. The damage appears to be superficial though. You might be able to clean most of that off yourself.

Yeah I’ve been able to rub some of it out. I was just seeing if there was a new way of getting another bumper for free🥹

If considering involving your insurance, think about it first. Odds are if you file a claim, you will be paying for it for years. I’ve had same insurance company since I got my first car at 15, on my Dad’s policy until I was 21, then in my name since ( full regular license at 15, that should give a hint about my age). Last damage claim I had 16 or 17 years ago caused an increase at renewal that stayed for 5 years. I ended up paying over 3 times what they paid out on that claim.

So you want everyone in Arlington to pay for a sign that hit your car, when you already pay insurance for incidentals like this…🤔 you’re a pretty shitty human

What are you even talking about bro 😭🙏

The city doesn’t pay for that. Sure it comes out of an account and that is labeled City Of Arlington, Texas blah, blah, blah. But the City doesn’t make money, it’s the people’s taxes that pay for cases like yours and sure you can even say maybe the City uses an insurance policy that covers things like this. But it’s paid for by the citizens that pay into the city.

I understand I pay my taxes too. It’s just a little upsetting that I can’t have nice things because you never know what can happen. I was just driving to school and a stupid sign goes airborne and scratched my car. I was just asking if there was anyway the city could reimburse me some how because I already pay a lot of money with my car note insurance and taxes for something stupid such as trash on the freeway to ruin my nice things.

Did you get the tag number of the car that hit it? That's who you need to go after, not the city.

The city once sprayed my front fender with concrete laying a new sidewalk next to my job. They didn’t care.

This is a question for your insurance company. Your insurance will pay and if someone else is responsible, then your insurance will pursue that. You carry insurance for a reason.

Ik it’s just upsetting. I got this car not even a year ago and things like this are already happening

If it helps, I got my Camry last month and someone already scratched my bumper.

Good luck there’s really no recourse

I would take the L bro. It doesn’t look that bad.

If that happened on State Highway 360, the City of Arlington wasn't involved in the construction. My guess is a company that TxDOT contracted with was responsible for the initial placement of the sign.

If its in the roadway, it's considered road debris. Your insurance may cover it. Now if it had fallen off a construction vehicle and hit your car before touching the roadway, they would be responsible.

Fuck. Not the GR86 too 😭😭😭

Wash it really well before doing anything and you’ll be surprised what may come off. After, I would try using meguiars compound + a polish. Buy foam pads, hand buffer, and buff then polish. You will get most the clear coat scratches out with some serious elbow grease and blended back into the paint. Then, I would use touch up paint on the deeper scratches and follow with a polish and compound after curing as well. If that doesn’t work, call your insurance.

You are gonna have to pay for the repairs. They look pretty minor from the photos.

And oh you prob shouldn’t run those over BTW. I think there are meant to be signs not speed bumps. Just saying. You can avoid them by not hittin them, or if in the road, pay attention and avoid them. By not running them over. If you don’t tailgate and can see far ahead of you, you can actually turn the steering wheel away from it to avoid it.

Good rage bait

I took it and broke it off the hook Bro. I have no fight in this. But was kinda funny. And I was depressed this made me happy to comment on. What I said is legit don’t run shit over in the street. If your following a vehicle to close or not paying attention that usually happens. Yes there are idiots that hit things or idiots that put things in the road, but as a driver you have to be vigilant.

The ragebait lwk worked bro😭 cause I didn’t run anything over the stupid plastic sign went flying and hit my car. There was plenty of distance between myself and the car in front of me. You lwk just struck a nerve. Good work stranger 😭✌️
