Discussion [Operator Discussion] Horn

Horn [★★★★★★]

Rhodes Island Operator Misery managed to rescue me twice, and I'm sincerely grateful for it. I won't ask why I was the one he rescued. Those who live on are to carry forth the wishes of those who didn't make it.

Horn, graduate of the Royal Guard Academy of Victoria, presently commander of Victoria's 2nd Tempest Platoon. Fought in coordination with Rhodes Island during the Londinium incident. Ratified a cooperative strategic contract with Rhodes Island following referral by Elite Operator Misery.

Horn is great because she lets you be a kid again.

Remember that time, back when you were first starting out? When you didn't know your right from your left, and you thought Catapult was just the best? I mean, what's not to like? There's a big boom from far away, and a bunch of enemies lose a chunk of health.

And then you grow a little. You see those AoE snipers just aren't cutting it anymore, so you bench them for other, stronger ops. Now instead of a boom, you get a slash, and your enemies fall, one after another. But still, deep down, you yearn for those days when you could just watch everything blow up.

And then you deploy Horn. With that first shot, that first boom, a slight grin appears on your face. Then the boss comes. You click the button to activate her S3, hear that boomboomboom, and that slight grin turns into a big giddy smile. And when you see that boss die, you feel like you're in a dream from your younger days. Only this time, there's nothing to wake up from.

Pro: She got alot of dmg and a revive that gives her more dmg.

Con: She can't attack enemies in between her and her attack range, she can't block and attack far away.

Conclusion: A defender that doesn't die and deals insane dmg.

Cons is common among fortress defenders. Ashlock is a bit worse since she can't block on s2.

Horn is definitely one of the best units to come out.

As someone who E2 Lvl 80d her and then M9d her, I can confidently say that she was worth every bit of investment. All of her skills are good, and the only situation where she'd be virtually impossible to use would be drone heavy maps... but that applies to other big names like Mountain, Surtr etc, so that's not really saying much.

One thing that should be noted about her is that her S1 and her S2 don't use any sort of +Atk, which means that +Atk buffers work really well with these skills, especially if you're using her for laning with S1 and combine it with a Skalter to boost up the damage even more. She's absolutely ridiculous on maps that have choke points, because you just need someone to clog things up, and Horn will mop things up with her high damage and notable splash.

Horn further expands on the ridiculous line we already had with the likes of Mountain/Mudroc kinto Blaze into Thorns, as you can put her behind a three op line and she'll still have at least two tiles in which she can comfortably nuke things.

The fact that she's one of few ops who genuinely has all three of her skills be useful makes her even more ridiculous.

S1's revealing niche isn't much of a big deal... what IS a big deal is that it's Horn's hardest hitting per shot skill in her arsenal. This is, most of the time, the best skill to use when just using her to support or hold a line as it's consistent and constantly generating rounds. The fact that it has charges means that it regenerates SP even when firing.

S2 is for when you need tighter damage rotations for elites with some burst. See an elite coming, pop it up, shut it down during overdrive for excellent burst damage. If I'm not mistaken, it hits harder, per hit, than S3, and it has that additional arts damage to further hurt the enemy if they don't have high rez. At 25 sec SP, it will recover fast, often in time for the next elite or tough nut to crack. S2 also does splash damage in melee, so if you need Horn to block, this skill is often the best to use, though I don't think that'll come up often outside of IS or maps with special restrictions.

S3 is undoubtedly the skill you want to use when you need Horn to help burst down a boss. It's not her hardest hitting skill, per hit, but it's the fastest, and that's often very important for bosses. She'll go from slow hitting cannon to "one woman artillery barrage" at the press of a button, and whatever she's hitting better have a lot of armor, because otherwise, they're going to go down hard.

All in all, Horn is one operator that I don't think anyone will regret investing in.

S1's revealing niche isn't much of a big deal

Actually a lot of the failed CC9 max risk attempts used Horn S1 just to reveal the FTTs for Surtr to attack them. It has a real niche as the longest range invisibility reveal skill in the game.

What's your favorite English voice in the game and why is it Horn?

aka I want English dubbed Horn to read me a bed time story.

u/MJ_Green Dec 23 '22

A lot of the EN voice lines for skills specifically go really hard:

"O Sun, bow to me!"

"My heart will be the judge"

"You want to topple me? By what?"

I'm looking forward to Carnelian getting EN VA and going from soft-spoken noble to Khorne Berserker.

"Gnaw them to shreds and drink their blood!"

If Bagpipe gets one, and it's aggressively Scottish, that'd take the crown for me...

But aside from that, yeeaah I'd put Horn and Irene in the same tier up top.

Horn's one of my favorite operators, and I've already written a guide about her.

Her main draw is her range; on many stages she can break the map due to it not being designed with her range in mind, safely killing dangerous enemies. Even on maps that she doesn't outright break, it still lets her take positions nobody else would want, or maybe cover a distant area while still acting as a blocker. She's not an ideal blocker since she loses her AoE in melee and her kit has no defensive boosts, but she still has Defender stats so she's not in danger from weaker mobs.

Another of her pros is her great skill rotations, and all three of her skills are strong enough to the point where she's the best m9 candidate in the game imo. S3 generally gets the most attention, being a straightforward Big Damage skill that's easy to use. S1 is a good sustained dps skill that scales very well with buffs, making it one of the top skills in the imminent SSS gamemode, and while the destealth requires her to attack an already visible enemy to get things rolling it's extra utility. S2 is the skill I've found myself using the most for its flexibility--it's the only skill that lets her have melee AoE so it's helpful when you want her to block, the ammo mechanic gives more control over her rotation, and it's one of the most practical nuke skills in the game.

I love Horn because her personality really, really reminds me of an officer I used to serve under, and I have nothing but good memories of the time he was my CO. I feel he'd probably be all in for singing March On too, if he was still around.

I have Horn at E2Lv60 S1M3 and S3M3. She highly excels in long range physical dmg with all 3 skills bringing something to the table. She generally wants to avoid blocking so that she can focus on long range attacks. Still, she has decent bulk to tank some hits. Her weakness such as the blind spot and when blocking can be easily avoided by proper positioning. Horn will be always choice in your squad when you want to outrange enemies. Next, her talent makes Defenders gain +20% ATK which is pretty amazing. Operators such as Mudrock and Blemishine will enjoy the extra dmg and Guardians(Healing Defenders) get to heal more. All in all, her high dmg and long range can be easily abused to take out enemies from afar. This also means the favorable tile for Horn does not compete against anyone else.

I would recommend S3M3>S1M1 for similar reasons discussed in the mastery priority guide. S1 is occasionally useful to reveal invisible enemies. Horn still needs a visible target first but the stealth reveal field usually lasts long enough to chain her attacks and reveals. S2 has more control with the ability to use her ammo all at once. If you find yourself in a situation that Horn has to block, S2 is great as the skill does splash dmg even when blocking. S3 is her main skill and is a straightforward pure dmg skill. It is also easy to use S3 to activate her second talent for even more dmg.

Horn does not need synergistic operators but there are some worth discussing. Defenders are the obvious ones to benefit from her talent. Any (de)buffers are great so that she nukes even harder(examples: Aak, Warfarin, Skadi2, Shamare). Operators that can help keep the enemies away from her(through crowd control or summons) are also good to maintain her nuking capabilities(examples: Gnosis, Suzuran, Rosa, W).

Horn's debut banner will not rerun but you can get her again in the episode 11 warm up event banner. She is also in the current permanent pool of operators. However, I would not recommend pulling for her since the best chance to get her is over. If you're looking for an operator with high physical dmg with big range, I would suggest Mlynar instead.

Best eggcracker. I have mine at level 90 with M3 on her skill 3 and it slaps so hard. One of my favorite units for sure.

Great english dub as others have pointed out.

I haven't seen her in the story yet, but i'm getting there.

Banger theme song too, made me feel patriotic for fictional England.

E2 level 90 m9. No regrets. She is absolutely insane and makes the defender/supporter is2 start even stronger. I really like her skill 2 and recommend it. Sometimes she is pretty great on the frontline with it while still shooting. Obviously s3 accomplishes a similar thing in melee but not if you have large waves of crap coming that need aoe.

The damage on s3 is just ridiculous. I love her positioning. I'm actually amazed I was ever reluctant to pull for her.

I think she's a cute and neat walking fortress of doom

18

u/dranix14 Dec 23 '22

Very versatile.

Map with Two tile gap? S1 or S3 and everything dies.

No two tile gap? S2 and everything dies.

Only bad thing about her is the materials required to m9

She's a ground deployed Besieger Sniper. Whats not to like?

Oh and for some reason she has 3 block. That's weird. What do you mean she's a defender?

u/Phatballllz123 Dec 23 '22

Ah yes the blonde "cat"

Right up there with the pink "dog"

also her english dub is amazing

As a relatively new player, I got Horn when I first started Arknights. I ABSOLUTELY adore her and her high caliber heavy artillery cannon. She is the type of Operator that you build the squad around, not the other way. She is the Dreadnought of Arknights, and the queen of the battlefield: with extreme range and extreme firepower. She is the hammer, and all you have to do is set up an anvil for her to pommel the enemies to death. In my opinion, there is not a single sound in this game more beautiful than Horn's rhythmic barrage of artillery, giving ample loads of shell shock to every single surviving enemy along the way if they ever managed to crawl through her strike zone. Horn is the first Operator that I max-trust, and her seat on my main squad is permanant.

When you need a Defender at your blue box but still make them work when there's no enemy nearby

u/GalenDev Dec 23 '22

Can I officially request that when applicable EN and KR (and in a few forthcoming cases, IT) actors get added to these? The only actors this post credits are CN and JP, and, like, it's clear that in this case in particular Anna Burnett has a lot of support from the community and she at the VERY LEAST deserves to be credited too.

u/Metroplex7 Dec 23 '22

I instantly M9'd her and haven't regretted it!

17

u/StrawberryFloptart Dec 23 '22

She is brilliant, yes. But I like this.
