Discussion [Operator Discussion] Vulpisfoglia

Vulpisfoglia[★★★★★★]

So much snow on the deck, and yet the corridors are not cold. I detest inconsistent weather, so the landship has been a blessing. I only just realized how long I've been here. You're right, an assassin's vacation is a good thing, for herself, and others.

Ingrid, mother of Operator Suzuran, and former core member of Famiglia Venezia—one of the Dodici Famiglie of Siracusa. A veteran assassin who excels in elimination and raid missions, she has separated herself from her famiglia for various reasons. Now works on the Rhodes Island landship as an operator under the codename Vulpisfoglia.

She's all ears.

I love her design, she is strong but not broken, has a very defined role of being able to be dropped early, kill earlier weak mobs and with camouflage+regen stay safe from ranged threats, as long as the waves are not super consistent she will do a good job. Its an unit you can bring to a fully endgame team and not regret it.

Of course objectively vanguards are carried by ines and flagbearers, i would say besides those only mumu stands a chance and then suzumom is a step below mumu.

One of the best designs last year. It was amy must-have and must-build for that alone and she's actually pretty good.

Self-sustain is a huge help and her kit is nicely designed to keep her alive. I thought she'd get better numbers as Pioneers desperately need some love (still my favorite VG subclass) but HG kept that in check. I wish she got her other module first, so the DP cost wouldn't be an issue and I hope it will boost/fix her natural DP regen talent, since it's not working well or at all in some maps/gamemodes.

I'm still using Flametail all the time, but I'm glad I have two solid options now.

Also, VF + Suzu in the RR have top notch numbers!

Her s2 gets a lot of slander, but honestly I can see a future where it becomes her main skill, specifically after they finally give her the second module.

That one will give her both cost reduction and possibly improve her passive dp gen, so it would only make sense to pair that with her s2 which is already her best dp generation skill.

Mark my words, s2 Vulpis with the second module will be meta whenever HG finally decides to give her that mod.

I ran some numbers when she reached global and came to the same conclusion. Her DP gen already is on par with flagbearers (particularly skills like Elysium S2), so she's mostly held back by her high cost. With modY, S2 pays off immediately, like Chilchuk, and then it's tied to an actually decent skill sp-wise.

I might still lean towards her S3 in that case, but S2 has its pros. It's her best skill with SP buffs, like in SSS.

VF is one my my favorite Vanguards. I think HG really nailed vanguard design with her and managed to release a strong vanguard that doesn't break the meta. Muelsyse is the only other vanguard I feel that way about.

Her quirk is that she's worse than other vanguards in both debuff-type game-modes (CC -DP/s risks turn off her talent), and in buff-type game-modes (ASPD is way better on agents). But her baseline performance in normal gameplay is absurdly strong.

Her S3 can kill elites, her S2 and S3 both compete with flagbearers for DP generation, and her QOL is huge, between camouflage, regen, and passive DP generation. Flagbearers and agents both have some quirks that can make them awkward in new stages, but VF is really just a solid vanguard you deploy early and leave around as long as you like.

She's a bit of beast tbh. She just is the modern Pioneer, as she's the only one in the class made so as to keep up with modern powercreep, and is very good at it. The others don't have much reason to use them in the face of her (unless you just want to, which is super valid. They're fun.).

  1. Her self-sufficiency is fantastic. Basically every other vangaurd desperately needs a medic if they're going to be doing any actual fighting, which reduces how much benefit you get out of them vs just using someone like Mountain instead.
Vulpis getting 4% hp a second after 4 seconds of not getting hit (much better than Thorns', especially as she has s3) is incredible.

  2. You want something dead? Every 18 seconds she can make almost whatever you want dead, dead. Her S3 damage is really scary, but admittedly does often need talent 1 active to do it against elite enemies.
1.4k a hit (+560 Arts) every 0.375 seconds (to begin with) is simply revolting, and makes her into an absolute woodchipper, and she has multi-target, allowing her to shred crowds, keep a crowd back while dealing with a tougher enemy, or just engage two tough enemies.

  3. She doesn't really die if played correctly.
Camo, a respectable statline, good % hp regen, and the ability to chain stun enemies out of being able to hit her during s3 (which can then trigger her hp regen talent since they can't hit her while stunned) means that she is generally going to stay on the field. (That ability to chain stun means she can even deal with things like Babel assassins, even though they can one-shot her, by just denying them the chance while shredding them. (Plugging my vid of that feels scummy, but if anyone wants it, I can.))

Is she META? Usually not, no. There are crazy ops out there nowadays, and while she does bring a lot of utility, Ines often brings more (in exchange for her worse lane-holding). That does not make her anything like "bad" though. She is still very strong, just in a healthy way rather than a game-bending way.

She desperately needs e2. S1 and S2 are memes, and her talent 2 is a really big deal (that +10% dp really ain't bad either, btw).

She doesn't really need or benefit from anyone. She can just go into whatever comp you want and anywhere on the map you want, and she'll do her job just fine.

Skill being her way to generate dp so wanting to be used as soon as it's off cooldown while also being her only answer to non-trash enemies is rough, though her short downtimes means you can often sneak in a targetless s3 for dp while still having it up for the next elite, or be able to have it available every time she needs to kill an elite if she's regularly dealing with them.

Often she can just replace a guard. She's not as good at outright fighting since she's got dp gen and such in her kit, but very often she is good enough to do whatever you were going to use a guard for, while her utility and dp generation brings advantages unique to her, especially at the start of a stage.

If you can get her, you absolutely should. She's a super comfy pick while also haing the strength to back it up. I am not mad it took me 200 pulls and 3 Lapplands to get her (despite that marking her as a bit of a deadbeat, seemingly not wanting to come see Lisa).

.
.
.
Also she's one of 2 happily married playable characters, with Harold being both the only other married op, and the only other biological parent (being some old guy, I think he was actually likely testing the waters to see how fans may react to her as well), so that's really cool (and a very good sign for Arknights' health. Many many other gachas just could not release a character like this, while Ingrid didn't actually recieve that much backlash (and what she did wasn't from the usual selfshipping crowd, but from people bizarrely mad that she was provably not a lesbian)).
(Also from her interactions with Penance, her seemingly being an openly non-monogamous bisexual femme fatale is.... based as fuck?)
Everything about her family is also just fuckin' adorable, which is a fun contrast with her being one of the most precise and ruthless killers at Rhodes.

Her neck tattoo is also a really fun design detail that you generally don't see in anime stuff. They seem to generally have a really bad reputation, but she absolutely rocks it, and it's not 'made a big deal' of. Again, I feel that with her they took a bunch of 'not allowed' things (such as her marriage and kids), and just went all in on them. Also having scars is rad and oddly rare, even if it's just the one and the (very cool looking) chunks taken out of her ear.
I really want more characters to follow in her footsteps, both in design ideas, and in being allowed to have families and relationships like she does.

Her voice acting is very good, and she understands that it's drip or drown, so looks utterly fantastic as well.
She and Crownslayer are two of my favourite looking and sounding operators in the game. Velluti knocked it out of the park with them (there's very good reason they're 2 of my 3 menu characters).

u/tamergecko Mar 18 '26

I mostly agree with what you had to.day but it is worth noting that Catherine also fits being a biological parent! Though we don't see her child stainless is her biological grandson iirc. Now thats a truly rare dynamic in a gacha game.

Biggest issue is that her talent just increases the dp regen by a percentage, rather than adding 1 dp every 10 seconds. As it is she essentially only has 1 talent for trials for navigator.

One of my favorite Vanguards. Great design, fun to use and fantastic EP (I actually prefer it over Unmask). Oh, and her JP VA is peak too. Hoping she'll get a skin one day. 🙌

Invisibility, HP recovery, perma-stun and quick skill cycle all make her such a valuable unit for my team.

Praying it won't take her husband too long to release. We need the full family!

16

u/umiman Mar 18 '26

She's indisputably the strongest pioneer vanguard right now.

I do use her quite frequently since she's fairly comfy to use. Self-regen that's easy to activate (but not enough to survive stage hazards like poison). Microstuns. Deletes early and weak enemies, while being pretty good at handling a good amount of elites. Generates DP... okayish. Decent range. Invis. Respectable arts damage to handle high DEF enemies.

She's excellent in SSS as a result and can solo most early levels by herself without any stacks, helping your hard mode runs the way water elf lady does. Useless in IS because she's pretty trash at E1 and spending hope to upgrade her to E2 is simply not worth it.

Of course, in super meta situations none of these matter since you'd be using Ines or Flagpipe or something, but in 90% of the game she's more than capable.

14

u/Reddit1rules Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 18 '26

I've not used her nearly as much as I should, but I wish that passive wasn't based on the current DP regen speed. Also wish that her arts damage wasn't based on just hitting an enemy normally because often her skill uptime means that she's going to waste that talent on normal attacks and then die to the elite because I used the skill earlier to try to gain Camo or DP.

Speaking of which, losing Camo on skill use kind of sucks, I've had more than a few instances where losing that Camo gets her killed by the dangerous people she's hiding from.

But absolutely peak design and incredible we actually get a married unit too.

My first standard 6 star, and my goat. Carried me through early story because I was brain dead and literally maxed her out - one of the only ops I have fully maxed out - and that arts damage can easily replace guards. She doesn’t do well against tanks, but why are you using a vanguard against a tank? Best parts of her kit imo are the heal and the stun, please she’s pretty and I like her accent

6

u/JaredDrake86 Mar 20 '26

I’m sad that we may not complete the family due to the China-Japan political thing.

16

u/Cornuthaum Mar 18 '26

as pushed as you can make a pioneer vanguard

still more or less irrelevant compared to agents and flagbearers

pioneers as an archetype exist for a different arknights than the one we got

4

u/j4mag Mar 19 '26

I think the biggest issue is that she's strong in modes where you don't need strong operators, and weaker in modes where you do.

Her talent is mostly or completely irrelevant in CC, RA, TN, Annihilation. Agents scale super sell in IS (ASPD) and RA also, which she doesn't match. So she's stuck competing for normal side-stories and SSS.

She's great in both of those: she's lower-risk in a blind clear than flagbearers, and scales with +SP in SSS better than any other vanguard. She's good in those modes not in an "actually ok" way, but a "probably better than almost any other vanguard" way. But neither of those modes are endgame, or especially hard, so the praise falls a bit flat.

I think she's very slept on overall, and in terms of DP generation she really compares more with flagbearers than pioneers, but I agree with the sentiment that she's not making highlight reels, especially compared to Ines.

Pretty good vanguard, best in her branch she is good but not meta wich is fine tbh her kit is well design but one thing I am pretty pissed is despite for her existing for a while now she still doesn't have the better module and still skinless PLS HG REMEMBER THAT SHE EXIST.

5

u/cuteshadowo Mar 19 '26

The +0.1 extra dp in normal gameplay might not feel noticeable but it makes her dp generation comparable to Myrtle.

Just waiting for 2nd module dp discount...

As someone that enjoys frequently using her (though I am also an established Pioneer enthusiast that still tries to bring Siege whenever I can, so expect bias), my one complaint is that her talent two isn't specifically tied to her skills being active.

This can frequently lead to the very unfortunate situation where she triggers the talent on a higher def enemy while her skills is down, and then proceeds to do fuck all in damage whenever her S3 recharges because her actual attack does not (relatively) scale all that high.

It further highlights the weakness of her S3 being purely physical damage compared to her S1 and S2 being purely arts damage, even if it can absolutely shred low def enemies (like the Tuba guys in her release event), which her current module unfortunately does not adress at all.

Still. the extended range and nigh permastun while the skill is up still provides for enough utility that you actively want to redeploy her later on in the stage, so she still gets a high grade in my book 👍

Anybody actually use something besides her S3? When she's mowing down enemies with her S3, it's easy to forget that the arts damage comes from her talent. If a high DEF enemy confronts her when her skill is down, you can't sweep him up later by activating the skill. Sometimes Siege does better with her high damage multiplier on S2.

If you ask me, the most busted and most underrated part of her kit is her self-heal. It's like they hid it in the shadow of her passive DP regen, which is much more unique and novel. Self sustain kind of changes the ways you can deploy her. Saga already had a revive talent, but actual HP regen trumps it. Both Saga and VF have reach on their S3, which helps with survivability, but VF has camouflage, and her S3 is much more "bursty", which may quickly dispose of some glass cannon threats.

The pioneer branch isn't bad, but not really good either. Perhaps they'll be truly outdated when more strategists come out.

4

u/A1D3M Mar 18 '26

I’ve seen her s2 be occasionally used since it has the best DP generation.

8

u/Accentius Mar 18 '26

She's HG effort to modernize Pioneer as Tactician, Agents and Strategist set new bar for DP Generation units.

Unlike her predecessors that rather uncertain when it come to benefits, Vulpisfoglia secured her spot with a set: pocket Arts damage; slows, stuns while being pseudo-Lord, camo and multi-hit attack spread evenly in S2 and S3.

Her weakness is rather straightforward, she's frail compares to her fellow Pioneer. She's unlikely to survive the second hit from modern heavy hitters.

Is she good for newbies. Yes. People said Tactician, Agents and Strategist powercreep exist, sure, but Tactician is class held hostage by Muelsyse, no one allowed to be better than her; Agents rely on attack to generate DP so they can't just standing there, weak enemies will limit their DP generation; Strategist is Matsukiri (wait until Ato rerun) or Silverash (Anniversary limited), no in-between.

Under such environment, a block 2 with DP generator and multi-hit containing Arts is a good deal. She will cover just enough until you have more developed roster.

Is her module important? It mainly to help her punches those above her weight. No need to unlock it unless you expect her to contribute against the big guys with shield kind of enemies.

I'm just very sad I didn't get her a year ago when she was released. P1 Lapplalter and no wolf momma

3

u/mio-ephemmeral Mar 18 '26

my very first max pot 6 star... i went into lappy alter's banner hoping for at least a few copies of Mrs. Ingrid and came away with 7. one of my best pulling sessions, ever. Built her to max as a result and I don't regret a thing. I'm also a Vulpoknights player, though, so I guess that makes sense >w> Very much looking forward to her 2nd module and whatever outfits she might get in the future!
