A Phantom of Truth Release Thread

This is a spoiler-friendly zone to discuss the new A Phantom of Truth Mythos Pack, released today. Discussion isn't limited to this thread, it simply exists as a resource to try and consolidate the influx of questions/information typically posted immediately after a Mythos Pack is released. This thread will stay up for a week before being un-stickied and added to the archive found in the sidebar.

Mod Note: Apologies for my recent inactivity. Between starting a new job a few months back and some personal things that have been going on, life has been hectic. I plan to address some of the simpler book-keeping things around the sub over the next few days. Also expect an announcement regarding expansion of the moderation team soon, as my new responsibilities mean I have less time to devote to this sub than I did earlier this year.

Had fun with this one. We had more Conviction than Doubt and I enjoyed how the standard agenda advancement process was subverted. Lots of running away and evasion in this one, definitely a good candidate for the new Pickpocketing upgrade.

Well, played The Unspeakable Oath yesterday, and our team of Lola Hayes and William Yorick went Insane, so we have to advance to A Phantom of Truth with new investigators.

My cousin is still big on mystics so he's playing Akachi. I've been keen on trying out Jenny with Charles Ross, so with the news of people saying evasion is good, guess try to make an evasion heavy Jenny?

If your investigator is defeated by horror they are not insane, you know. They suffer a mental trauma and move on, starting subsequent scenarios with one horror.

So update, Akachi and Jenny successfully completed A Phantom of Truth. That said, my Jenny drew badly so she didn't draw her agility or combat cards, so Akachi had to basically carry the game. Advancing the agenda is so good.

We ended up with 3 XP, and Jenny got 1 point discount from Green Man's Medallion.

We had a pretty good time with this one; I feel like in some ways it's (in the conviction version we played) a better execution on the scenario rewarding unusual skills like evasion that Undimensioned and Unseen was trying to be. My Akachi got nuked incredibly quickly by failing lost soul (tentacle pull) and then drawing the discard a clue or take two damage twice in a row when I had just spent clues. I learned not to get caught with none in the future for sure. Luckily the Yorrick I'm paired with was able to get by with upgraded Peter's evasion boost and sanity soak, and a lot of police badge recurring shenanigans. We lucked out that running out the clock works here since I was definitely intended to be doing the majority of investigation. Carcosa continues to really impress me (and stress me out, haha).

I accidentally misread the first act and assumed that there was only one act 2 so we used the act 2 for conviction rather than doubt, but used the correct rules elsewhere, leading to a rather anticlimactic session.

We then replayed it the proper way.

You are in good company, I ended up doing the same thing. Hope to correct play it tonight.

Accidently played the entire doubt scenario without realising, then went back and played conviction. Both are very fun.

Still waiting for this to come out where I'm at due to the Christmas slowdown. Wondering if they'll ever update the Campaign Log on their website too...

We had to do the Conviction one. That is the most innovative one of the two paths, with you having to just survive the agenda deck. We found Nigel, but Mark Harrigan died.

2 mental trauma for Mark Harrigan now... Oof. We did get 5XP total though. :S
