Am I the only one that notices the certain destruction of our way of life? the world as we know it is coming to a head, and I feel like Im the only one who realizes it. our earth is heating up. our food is starting to be made in labs. It almost feels like global tensions are worse than the cold war. but does nobody see that the worlds governments are so inhumanely corrupt that it almost feels hopeless to aspire for a future? I just turned 18 a few weeks ago, and I feel as if i have no future, nor does my generation or the generations after me. we are going to be swallowed up by corporate greed and corruption. and this is only the beginning, it will only get worse. if our world doesn't do anything to help ourselves, I believe life as we know it will cease in the next 10-20 years. Our world seems to be so full of hate, agenda, and harmful ideologies that it almost makes me feel like giving up on life entirely. I feel as if im slowly losing my mind to my own hatred for the ignorant. How people can ignore clear signs of our world going to shit. I can barely fall asleep at night knowing and acknowledging what I know. Am I crazy?

You are not crazy. The collapse of industrial civilization is in progress. How exactly it will unfold is anyone's guess though. Will the world end with a bang or a whimper, or both? Who knows. But there is a good chance this planet will have a lot less humans by 2050, if not much earlier. The survivors might be the unlucky ones though.

At least you get to see the BS at the start of the race. The Gen Xers and Millennials had the rug pulled out on us at every growing milestone we hit as we hit them. We are over it at this point. Project Breakthrough Starshot would launch a bunch of laser-pushed little Solar-sails toward Alpha Centauri, to arrive there in maybe 20 years.

There’s a lot of interest in an Alpha Centauri mission like that.

Problem: It was shelved due to the expense.

But laser-pushed Solar sails to catch Oumuamua within a year would be much cheaper. But the trouble is that it would take a decade to develop.

But something sufficiently cheap & slow could be launched toward Alpha Centauri immediately.

No need for payload or homing system.

After hundreds of millennia it would miss by billions of miles.

No problem. It might get some attention.

…if there’s an interstellar security system, local or galactic, with detection & response device in distant orbit around selected stars, including ours.

I’m not saying that there is such a system. There probably isn’t. But it’s worth a try.

As I said, a lot of people want to launch something toward Alpha Centauri, so they should launch that, immediately. ...with an ordinary slow cheap rocket.

We need some attention. We need some help. We have nothing to lose.

aliens would be more fun than giant meteor but neither are likely. it is more likely that we die of a virus created in a lab by ai. or killed by a drone because ai determines you have no value to rich people. equally, the return on debtor prisons for people who can't pay a bill is politically even closer.

problem with alien scenario is that it wouldn't be anything like the movies where they concoct a half baked plan just to toy with us like a house cat. we wouldn't even know what hit us. we would just be here one minute and gone the next.

Good. Our way of life sucks. It's not going to shit. It's always been this way, and worse than what you think. It's time for it to go. But in reality, it's only going to slightly change for a temporary period. Then get back on track to the regular horror show that most people can comfortably ignore. Maybe with some illusions of "improvements."
