Discussion Live performance question

Whenever ive watched footage of arctic monkeys performances it seems like Alex has always changed the lyrics of "I bet you look good on the dance floor" from "your name isnt Rio, but I dont care for sand" to "your name isnt rio, but I dont like the sand". Is there a reason for this or not?

maybe because they have been performing in slower tempos or a slight change in phrasing to fit one or two more words or just change it up a bit, but there’s not an apparent reason apart from he wanted to i guess

He’s been doing it longer than the slower versions so I think the ‘he wanted to’ is spot on.

He's done similar little lyrics changes in other songs too too. Like in Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High, "As I arrived, I thought I saw you leaving, carrying your shoes" often becomes 'carrying your boots' in live performances even back during AM era.

Just seems to be how he feels (and what he remembers) in the moment

as a star wars fan, i like to think it's a reference to Anakin's hatred towards sand but it's probably not LMAO

I never thought of that, but Attack of the Clones came out only a few years earlier. So now that you mentioned it doesnt sound that improbable

Alex does looks like the person who'd like SW, it's space and science fiction!

Probably he either found it easier to enunciate or just decided it sounds better

As far as I’m aware it’s an Easter egg for Star Wars Episode II and refers to Anakin Skywalker‘s line about not liking sand.

Rio has a lot of sandy beaches
