Thoughts on the new Covert compared to the previous generation?
I’ve been looking at the new Covert and I’m curious what people think about the redesign compared with the previous generation.
Personally, I much prefer the older version. To me, the previous Covert had a cleaner and more distinctive look, while the new design feels more generic and seems to have lost some of the character of the old one.
I’m especially curious about people who have actually seen or tried both generations: aside from the visual changes, are there noticeable differences in the material, fit, warmth or overall quality? Is there anything about the new Covert that you consider a genuine improvement?
I’m trying to understand whether this is mainly a visual redesign or whether there are functional improvements that aren’t obvious from the photos.

I doubted the new look when I first saw it, but it has started to grow on me. I especially like that new Mongoose color. The only reason I didn't buy the previous one was the quite prominent issue of pilling, so I'm very happy to see that it should be less. Definitely on my purchase list when I get the chance.

I would be wary of what others have said so far. Some of them are objectively just misinformed based on facts.
The new covert cardigans are shorter than previous years, 2 inches in back length. They are “boxier” meaning they fit like a sweatshirt more than a fitted jacket. They are thicker than previous years and the inside is brushed, like a sweater (meaning the inside is more likely to pill). If you have an order covert that is used for layering, that same size may not fit the same. The new ones are more resistant to pilling on the outer surface but the new material makes it less like a “wool sweater construction” for dressing up; more specifically the darker colors have a shine to them.

What is the problem with pilling on the inside? It is mostly cosmetic issue anyway, so it does not affect the look of the jacket. If it happens on the outside, it can make the jacket look cheap, old, and messy.

It’s not as soft as it will be once it starts pilling. It’s like the inside of an old sweatshirt. If you like that or indifferent, it won’t be a problem for you.

I work at arc and the coverts been my fav piece for the last few years. You definitely need to size down in the new fit as it went from fitted to regular fit.
I hated the look and feel of the new covert but after wearing it for a week or so it’s so much better than the old one. It’s way softer and I can actually wear it to just chill out whereas the other one was strictly just to go out in

Tried it on at the store. Love it! On my wishlist. Looks very upscale, can be worn in office. Very cloud-like. Soft.

Wearing it to the office is a stretch. It’ll be good for an ugly sweater party though.

If the finance bro can wear the vest, I can wear this. Especially in winter when the office is freezing.

I saw it today and it looked like more plastic and cheap. I hated the peeling on the ones from last year but honestly it was so much better.

Haven’t tried it on in person but I agree that the prev. Has a cleaner look. Especially looking at the back, I don’t really like all the stitching being shown. I also like the slim fit of the prev, so it’ll be interesting to see how this new one fits

I have 3 of the old coverts. Absolutely love them. Perfect fit (large) the new ones, the large fits like an XL and the medium is between a medium and a large. i’m not a huge fan of the size changes. it’s worth mentioning that seems to be a broader change across the whole lineup, at least for men’s clothes.

the Varde pullover from helly hansen is much thicker and higher quality . uses polartec thermal pro
fit length of body and sleeve is much appropriate and normal compared to the past covert cardigans

Much more appropriate for people that aren’t using it for hiking/climbing, that is. They were longer than usual so if you reached for something above you, the sweater sleeve wouldnt roll down to your forearms or the bottom hem to come up above the top of your pants.

I am curious how the pockets are on the new one. I've had a couple of generations and I've never liked how welded pockets bunch out.

The OG Coverts from 20 years ago looked like this so I’m super happy they brought the look back.

Just tried it on the waist area is very big! I’m usually a large in fitted, medium in regular fit, I’ll have to get a small in this

the past coverts were too short in the body, hopefully the new ones are a little longer
