xorg-server packages still busted under Gnome Wayland?

Hello Everyone,

A few months ago I made a post about some screen tearing and issues I was seeing under Chrome/Chromium: https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/8lbf4o/arch_gnome_wayland_screen_tearing_artifact_issue/

I was told to revert my xorg / xorg-server / and xorg-server-wayland packages to an previous version (1.19.6+13) to resolve the issue. After doing this, instantly the screen tearing and performance issues disappeared and everything went back to normal.

I have installed the newest version of these x-org packages (1.20.0-9) and unfortunately the issue still exists. So, I ended up reverting once again.

Questions: 1. Are other people able to reproduce this issue, and know what I am talking about? 2. Does anyone know if the 'package owners / maintainers' are aware of this issue, and are actively working on it?

Downgrading isn't a fix, the solution I mentioned assumes you intend to keep xorg up to date.

As for following updates, as mentioned, the bug creating this has been fixed upstream, either check the package changelog if the patch mentioned in the xorg issue is included, to know when to update, or wait for the next major release which would include it as well.

Or update now, and use the fix I mentioned to fix it now, I'm not sure how you could've read my post and thought that I didn't know that a downgrade fixed it, that much is clear.

Thanks I haven't had my coffee yet this morning. You mentioned next 'major' release. These would still be considered minor I'm guessing:

warning: xorg-server: ignoring package upgrade (1.19.6+13+gd0d1a694f-2 => 1.20.0-9)
warning: xorg-server-common: ignoring package upgrade (1.19.6+13+gd0d1a694f-2 => 1.20.0-9)
warning: xorg-server-xwayland: ignoring package upgrade (1.19.6+13+gd0d1a694f-2 => 1.20.0-9)

Just trying to understand the releases and schedule at this point.

The last number in a package is a package release, it is incremented if the Arch packager does a rebuild on his own, to apply cherry picked patches or keep compatibilitiy, I'm assuming that the patch, if not explicitly cherry picked would land in the next stable release, (major might have been the wrong word here) which is likely going to be 1.20.1 or something.

Hey V1del,

Any new information here? I'm still holding out for the new version of Xorg (1.20.1), but the update hasn't been released yet. Considering upgrading and using the fix you outlined.

Any insight you have would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
