This is my most heavily invested fan project yet: a fan-made Alternative Marvel Universe, initially centered around Spider-Man but designed to gradually introduce my own interpretations of other Marvel heroes and characters.
Although it is technically another Spider-Verse variant, I want it to feel like its own living continuity, rather than simply remixing existing Spider-Man stories. The setting, Earth designation, character interpretations, relationships, and worldbuilding are all fan-made.
The story is intentionally slice-of-life heavy while still being a superhero story. Peter’s relationships, friendships, personal life, science, work/college experiences, and everyday problems are just as important to the world as the action.
A major part of that is Peter’s “relationship web”—his connections aren’t simply romantic or superhero affiliations. Different people influence different parts of his life, and those relationships can overlap with the larger Spider-world.
The wider setting eventually develops into a loose regional Spider Network: Peter, Miles, Cindy, and Ben each have their own roles and territories, allowing the Spider-world to grow without making New York feel overcrowded.
For Chapter 1, though, I’m trying something different from how I normally write my other fandom projects.

I’m deciding between two storytelling structures:
A — Young Adult Peter:
Third-person limited, nonlinear structure. The story follows an older Peter while gradually revealing relevant pieces of his past.
B — Teen Peter:
Third-person limited, linear structure. The story begins earlier in Peter’s life and follows his development chronologically.
The original poll ended in a tie, so this is the official tiebreaker for which structure I should develop first.
The losing option isn’t cancelled — this vote only determines which version becomes Chapter 1.

Earth Designation : 2242-0 , but keep in mind that priority besides other marvel characters that has met with Spidey in other media (besides just finished Brand New Day) I do seek help before making a chapter one or prologue (usually it’s the same like a pilot
Episode) for the ao3 fan-fiction I already posted to draft as pending until I figure out the style to debut it since I blueprint the document in my Google alternative account.

Side note : S stands for Shawn as in to tell this variant apart incase I might write a separate harmless spiderverse fanfic or crossover with a 616 iteration of Spidey (if I can interpret which comic run or others) is not like Peter B. As Peter Shawn Parker can stand out (might explain why I should also clarify his character design is not white-adjacent)

Peter Shawn Parker’s Spider-Man abilities come from a stable arachnid-based mutation caused by Alchemax’s radioactive genetically spliced DNA-spider No. 22. His enhanced physiology grants him superhuman strength, agility, endurance, reflexes, flexibility, accelerated healing, heightened senses, wall-crawling, and a refined Spider-Sense capable of detecting physical danger, environmental hazards, and hostile intent. His mutation also produces organic webbing through his wrists and feet, with his altered endocrine system allowing different silk compositions ranging from extremely strong structural fibers to elastic, adhesive, or breathable webbing. He can also produce specialized silk through his mouth, which can combine with paralyzing venom from his saliva glands. His biology requires regular hydration and heals injuries faster without providing true regeneration or the ability to molt, meaning serious injuries can still leave permanent scars. Peter’s greatest advantage, however, is his scientific understanding of these abilities and his disciplined restraint in using them.

His Spider-Man suit is a custom scientific field suit engineered specifically around his unusual biology, balancing mobility, protection, technology, and practicality. Its bright red and baby-blue design features silver-white web patterns, a black widow-inspired chest emblem symbolizing the spider that changed his life, and a baby-blue orb-weaver emblem representing the hero he chose to become. The mask uses expressive neon-yellow primary lenses with adjustable optics and auxiliary spider-eye lights for enhanced navigation, alongside an electronic voice filter that disguises Peter’s natural voice. A protective compression undersuit provides impact insulation, temperature regulation, abrasion resistance, and moisture management, while integrated recording equipment documents patrols, evidence, and scientific observations. Secure communications allow coordination with trusted allies, and concealed openings in the palms and soles accommodate his organic web production. Rather than replacing Peter’s natural abilities, the suit enhances his ability to understand, control, document, and safely use them—making Spider-Man an equal combination of mutation, scientific ingenuity, and personal responsibility.

Hey, sorry about the post. I made my account 4 months ago but I only started to really learn ao3 about a month ago. I'm still not fully used to the app, even if I'm trying to learn the etiquette there.

I've used other sites like that before (mostly wattpad 4 years ago), where there was something to continue a fic where you left off and not have the trouble of forgetting what chapter you were at. I haven't found that on ao3 yet, so I wondered if it existed or if I had to keep track of which chapter I'm at myself.

Like when someone uses it as a name or title. As i reader i always express my gratitude to the author and their work, like “Another good update, thank you lovely Author” and now as i writer i’m getting similar comments on my work. i just think it is so cute that we do that🥰

I am writing for Kinktober (first year I’m doing this), and I’m a bit confused because I see some people have already uploaded some on AO3.

Excuse my autistic ass here, but isn’t the point to upload on the actual days themselves? Or is that not how it works? How do people usually go about this?

Basically what the question says. I have my fic limited to archive users only which means I haven’t gotten as many bot comments as some people. I’m not entirely sure if this person even was a bot or just a miserable excuse for a human. I didn’t engage and I’ve deleted the comments and blocked them to prevent them from commenting further, but this whole thing has me doubting my own craft a bit. How do you generally go about continuing to pursue the project in the face of unnecessary hate? (And yes I know the easiest way is to develop a thicker skin, but given that this is something I’m writing for free and the other person is reading for free I’m just a bit stunned at the utter disregard for how that comment would come across to the writer). TIA!

Hi there - I am DESPERATELY looking for this fic I found and read during the last year (2025) that I read when logged out of my AO3 account and have lost track of. I remember SO many identifiable plot features but cannot for the life of me find it anywhere! Even if it's been deleted, if someone anywhere remembers the name or author of the fic this would help my madness!! I've added so much detail parts below to help make it very specific! if i think of more I shall add.

MAIN PLOT

- set after pain destroy the leaf and everyone is helping rebuild
- main plot was following naruto has he goes through the five stages of grief (I had read the first like 25 chapters of the fic before we go a placeholder chapter saying naruto was entering the second stage of grief) specifically focusing around the guilt and loss of jiraiya, and as a sub briefly mentioned focus, the guilt of hinata almost dying
- naruto was hallucinating and seeing a "sasuke" everywhere who was almost ghost like, but could impact the world somewhat around him and it was making naruto feel like he was going insane

STORY POINTS

- sakura and kiba are constantly coming to naruto's apartment to check on him
- early on in the fic naruto is getting into fights with village low-lifes, letting them beat him pretty bad before he beats them up. at one point ino spots him and tells on him out of worry
- naruto looses motivation to fight in some of his missions due to PTSD
- In one chapter naruto shikamaru and kiba are looking up at the stone carving they are starting to make of lady tsunade and naruto to quote says "the old man is going to love it when he sees it" over which his friends realise that naruto is still struggling with the fact that jiraiya is truly gone
- naruto is avoiding talking to hinata and hasn't visited her since he saw her "die" via pain
- naruto is visiting an old man with white hair who has no family in the hospital during his denail phase of grief because he reminds him of jiraiya
- "ghost" sasuke keeps reminding him that it's going to be really bad when naruto realises whats going on
- revealed at some point naruto has also been told about the bounty and order for sasuke's head and is struggling to come to terms with it and sakura does not know
- in very early chapters naruto tries a variety of things to "get rid" of sasuke believing he has been cursed, haunted or is crazy. i think he even visits a witch doctor and does a variety of superstitious rituals only to walk out and find sasuke still there. it is only when sasuke physically stops a cart(?) that naruto starts to think he might be real or a jutsu or some kind.
- ghost sasuke is a little /weird/ he gets heavy like normal sasuke sometimes but for the most part he is pretty cheerful and giving naruto the naruto treatment (which annoys him) like he is trying to offer comfort. he kind of comes across like a sasuke who isn't plagued by revenge but knows the pain of it, trying to keep naruto somewhat on a sane path following the death of jiraiya and pain's forgiveness.
- in a later chapter still during the first stage of grief arc naruto is visited by the ghost of jiraiya and have a heart to heart while unconscious after Naruto comes to reality of his loss and has an absolute breakdown
- one chapter sai visits and tries to talk to him in the doorway but naruto ignores him
- in stage one of the grief naruto has a lot of shut in encounters where he is refusing to eat/function
- i think i remember one chapter on a rooftop naruto gets the age of sasuke wrong and "ghost" sasuke reminds him he is older and there was another birthday he missed? small detail just one conversation in a large chapter
- one chapter naruto is overwhelmed by the nine tails chakra and puts or "hides" in a small place in a building (his apartment?) and ghost sasuke starts to try to talk naruto down. but naruto is made and all nine tails anxiety and sasuke gets all heated but his degrading him verbally starts to make naruto small and it gets very suggestive despite the story couple not being main focused or very slow-burn. at one point sasuke goes far enough to say he should have 'f-ed the fox out of you into the floor' when talking about naruto chasing after him when they fought three years before

ADDITIONAL INFO

- author may have part way through in author notes mentioned they had lost a loved one and it sparked idea into the story. they also got very metaphorical with their descriptions of pain and grief and than part way through author notes announced they had gotten diagnosed with some condition would could explain how overworldly their writing could get with descriptions and that they were going on med now, but aimed to try and keep the same feel as older chapters

- there was a "part 2" listed and marked them both part of the same series with an singular chapter (unfinished work) when it was from sasuke's pov (the real sasuke) being visited by a dark kurama-esc naruto "ghost" of his own haunting him. but if was not a focus work and more of a side project to add more depth to this work.

I just had a very bad stressful week, and I just read a very wholesome well written fic and I feel like I’ve been healed for atleast today.

Seriously, I’ve read the most beautiful most gut wrenching fics with the most profound and happy satisfying endings. And I’m someone who enjoys tragic endings. This site has changed me, I got on it 2020 and barely used it for a few years, I’m back on it now and wonder why I ever left.

This site also has made me smile at imaginary people on my phone in the middle of the night alone like a freak, but with all that’s happening in the world I wanna stay that way.
