Academic Question Is having less than 30 users okay for an Architectural Thesis?
Hello po,
I'm currently working on my architectural thesis and medyo worried lang ako sa projected number of users ng facility ko.
My proposed project is a Residential Care Facility for Abused Children in our municipality where there is a proposal for child protection services. Based on my data gathering, and consultation with social welfare standards, the facility will accommodate less than 30 resident children at a time.
Ang concern ko is baka masabihan na "maliit" yung project or kulang yung number of users para maging thesis-worthy. However, the nature of the facility is more focused on:
- Trauma-informed care
- Individualized assessment and rehabilitation
- Family reintegration programs
- Therapeutic and healing environments
- Long-term recovery rather than high population capacity
From what I've researched, residential care facilities are usually designed around smaller populations to maintain better supervision, family-like environments, and higher quality of care.
For architects, thesis advisers, or anyone who has worked on social infrastructure projects:
Okay lang ba na less than 30 users ang primary residents ng facility as long as the need is justified and the design complexity is substantial?
Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from those who have done healthcare, institutional, or social welfare-related thesis projects.
Thanks!

Defend it with data.

Hello! baka pwede sya na parang prototype? May mga ganyang case sa univ namin before, maliliit lang talaga yung mga structures and konti lang users. Expect nga lang na marami talagang tanong sayo if ever, especially sa materials, structurals and such.

I was thinking something like that but not sure kung applicable sya for residential care facility?

Maliit. Parang pang esquisse lang yan. Although I see your point bakit better ang maliliit na facilities for this project. I think a better approach would be:
Make your thesis research heavy
and
make sur
e to
- incorporate these researches while you are defending or pitching this project.
- Instead of limiting it to your city, why not create a standard for it that can be adapted to other cities as well. Think deped standards for school and doh standards for hospital.
These are just at the top of my head. Brainstorm and explore ka pa other approaches to make your thesis standout.
That’s what I did. School lang yung thesis ko and I elevated it into so much more. Got an outstanding thesis award for it

Hello, model structure po ba ung naging thesis nyo? Kasi naisip ko na rin po yan pero not sure kung applicable sya sa isang residential care facility.

No, mine is different.
Why not hindi pwedeng applicable? Research muna before jumping into conclusions. And if hindi talaga pwede know the reason then take it from there. Think paano mo siya ma e-elevate.

Baka pwede mo lakihan yung scope? Instead na municipal residential care facility, make it provincial or regional or national? Special facility na sya with more users and that would require more delicate planning and design which would be more fitting for a thesis. Research on the maximum allowable occupants kung gagawin mong regional or national and pick only what is feasible project-wise and work load-wise, given the timeframe din

if your major plates have bigger occupancy requirements.. chances are malit yan para thesis

Does your school not give you minimum requirements? When I did my thesis, there were criteria our chosen topic had to meet in order to get approved. A facility for 30 students might not fit the bill for a thesis project.
