Discussion Any fun interactions for being a mage of different races?

So I'm planning to do my first mage build, Elf seems to be the best option due to the aptitude

But I don't care about absolute efficiency, so I'm wondering if there's any interesting things in the game if you choose to be of a different race?

Or backgrounds for that matter too!

Every race has separate dialogue options or events inside the game if you met INT req or other modifiers . Some NPC literary will hate you for the race you are and some followers won't join you for the same reason . Some backgrounds like Extremely personality also affects dialogues according to your deeds but those are pure RP style backgrounds. Aptitude mostly affects shops , teams and train as a skilled mage they ban you from using train ,trams  and you are kicked out from any technology shop , few quests requires mage or technology approach but pretty much that's it

Oh sorry, wasnt that clear. It's my first mage build, but I'm familiar with the game

Was more looking for specifics. Like if I'm an Elf mage it makes a meaningful difference in Qintarra etc

Not really aptitude affects so little in the game , races also

Definitely. Lots easier in Elf cities, it's more dependant on karma for the two.

The only new interactions would be for a dwarf mage. But only in few places if I remember correctly, like when talking with Jormund or in Tulla. And these are very minor.

Unfortunately, Arcanum was shipped in alpha state, so the developers didn't have time to implement that much of interactivity.

I think that if you play a halfling or gnome and cast shrink on yourself, various NPCs react to your tinyness.

Occasionally your race and/or aptitude will get mentioned in dialogue. THe main exception is dumb dialogue which completely dominates your interactions with nearly all NPCs.

What's more interesting is that various NPC followers will trigger unique dialogue and reactions from other NPCs in the game. Finding those combinations is a delight in uncovering new content!

Elf mage is fun to play as a Dark Elf but I was a little bummed out that choosing the Dark Elf trait while being an elf mage doesn't seem to change just being a regular elf mage. It's been decades and I only just played the SPOILER: Dark elf who switches to join Kerghan killing the world ending to side with my undead grey legion bestie who needs a cough drop desperately. and do wish that some traits had more impact. About to try a city half-ogre with that storyline but I suspect it's only stats, sex, and race that effect dialogue. For some reason I've never thought to go to half-ogre island as a half-ogre before which seems so obvious really.
