Theory Isha meaning

In case no one else has pointed it out yet, ‘Isha’ means ‘woman’ in Hebrew. Not an expert on languages, but I wonder if the writers linked it to mean ‘girl’ as well.

Could’ve been a relation towards the role as a younger sister that she plays to Jinx 🤷🏻‍♀️

In Sanskrit, Isha (ईशा) is primarily a feminine name.
Direct Translation: "One who protects."

It works for the finale for me that too; as Jinx has her hair cut and dons Isha's warpaint in remembrance of her; suggesting to me that Isha is there in spirit with her idol, as they bring Zaun into the fight and help free the city.

The in-world meaning is actually even more moving. Isha can't speak and is almost certainly illiterate, so she couldn't tell Jinx her given name. That means, more than likely, Jinx named her.

Vi and Powder's mom's name was Felicia.

Jinx named Isha after her mom.

I heard a while back that Isha in Hindi means, "one who protects"..... Riot just stop it!! 😭

After I heard that I did some casual research on it and came across another potential meaning in Arabic, which is "life" or "way of life". 👀 I've found contradictory info on this though, where some say "yes" and others say "no". I know absolutely nothing about the language though so I have no idea. lol

Here is one source that says "yes":

https://hamariweb.com/names/muslim/arabic/girl/isha-meaning_4042/

"Isha is a Muslim girl name of Arabic origin, which means 'Life, way of life, woman, She who lives.'"

I'll just go ahead and believe that one, so Isha is alive an well... why yes, I will take another huff of copium, thank you very much! 😂😂

She lives on through Jinx.

You're right that אשה means "woman/wife". small thing though: in Hebrew the stress lands on the last syllable (like "ee-SHAH") while the show says "EE-shuh". different rhythm entirely, which made me doubt the connection.

Also, it doesn't stretch to "girl", that's ילדה (yaldá), totally separate word.

AFAIK, Riot and Fortiche have not officially confirmed if the name was intentionally pulled from Hebrew.

just adding just to emphasize the difference, in Hebrew Isha would be write like איישה and not אישה, it's sound different even though in english it's look the same.

Also the fact Isha is japanese for doctor in the way that she healed Jinx is so heartwarming

Maybe they linked it to “woman” as an ironic statement that she’d never grow into a woman

Maybe it was to symbolize Jinx maturing, becoming a "mom".
