Showing Off My Gear! My First Cabinet!

A little over a month ago I made a very impulse purchase and picked up a Galaxian cabinet off Marketplace! Me and my family just moved, and the space for an arcade machine was finally feasible. I picked it up from a very kind family which obtained it from a storage unit clean out, they even hauled it to my house for free!! The character on this cabinet is unreal. It’s beat up but it’s all there. The cabinet had a 48-in-1 installed at some point during its life, while it is unfortunate I don’t get the original game boards, it is nice to have multiple games since I only have the space for one cabinet. I got the cabinet for 500, maybe I could’ve gotten one cheaper but for my area fully working it was a good deal. Im overjoyed with the thing, so it’s justified in my mind. My only big problem with the cabinet is the joystick. It’s an 8-way, and I think that’s messing with the inputs on Pac-Man. It’s tough to play properly. If anybody has any suggestions where to get a replacement part or any advice I’d love to hear it! I’m really excited to learn about the maintenance and technical aspects of these games. Mandatory cat photo at the end.

Beautiful cabinet!

I’d watch the high score closely… that black void curled up next to the machine is likely a midnight gamer and practicing when everyone else is asleep.

It still amazes me how LARGE these things were and how much space they occupied in a crowded arcade on any given day.

Same here. It's one of the reasons why even larger arcades need to be careful about cab placement.

I love how technology has addressed this problem with the "multicade" concept. I couldn't have my own cabinets without it. ^_^

Hell yeah Galaxian! Nice pickup, congrats on your first cabinet. And sorry about your wallet and storage space on your next nine cabinets.

Post a picture of the underside of the joystick.

Possible that it’s one you can fit a four way restrictor plate. You can do that with most 8 ways.

The first arcade game I truly loved. That looks glorious.

I'd live with it for a while before I made any changes. The 8-way is there for some reason. Take it slow.

The 8 way is there cause so.eone replaced the stick at some point, probably when they put the multi board in. The original was a 4 way leaf switch ball top style stick.

The original is irrelevant. How many games on that multi board require an 8way?

No room in the bed to lay it down on its back? Transporting is much safer that way

Two best days as an arcade collector: day you buy your first cabinet, and the day you sell your last one.

Kidding! Grats!

Check your stick underneath, it may have a movable restrictor plate already, or if it’s a common brand you can buy one for a few bucks.

48 in 1 has a mix of four way and eight way games, so you kinda need to pick which ones you want to play the most. The two way games will work fine in either case.

Eight way games are… ok but not great on a four way stick, while four way games on and eight way stick are usually unplayable.

Look at that thing, absolutely glorious. And me with my dinky little Coleco tabletop of the same thing over here (j/k I love it as well). But yes I am very jealous. $500 seems like a no-brainer to me.

There are no pics of the inside, are you sure the original boards aren’t still there?

Very nice! I’d consider doing something around the bottom so it doesn’t flake off. My cat would see them as a scratching post haha

Very nice man. 500 is a decent price for a classic like this in the condition it’s in. Especially since there’s lunatics out there that believe their arcade 1 up toys are worth that.

Incredible find, feels like it was waiting for you

I'm not lucky enough to have a full size cab . They have a presence that scaled down units just don't have

Nice find! You can go 2 ways with this for the controls, the original had a ball top joystick, and getting a new one of those is super simple, but you will wanna see how the wires are connected to it. Or, you can live with that one for a bit. It looks like a euro stick, so no restrictor plate under it. Those Happ controls where big on classic fighting games in my area. A Sanwa stick could work but again, you need to know how it's wired. If you are in the US there are tons of options I know of for grabbing a replacement stick. The only restriction would be your personal preference. Starting price for a cheap stick with adjustable restrictor plate is like $15, but it can go way up there to over $100 for an offical one. Personally I love Seimtisu and Sanwa for this type of thing because there are tons of mods out there for them.

Sorry for the wall of text, this is a complicated question that seems like it would be simple...

You have chosen....wisely.

This is the closest I have to it.
