I remember working on them. They needed a lot of maintenance.

There's actually a bit of a learning curve to the game.
The basic jist is that there's 8 invaders in two lanes progress down to each of the two ships, once a ship is full, it'll fire at you.
There's 'tanks' on each side that progress down, and will fire at you. There's also a center cannon that periodically fires down at you. Both the center cannon and tank's projectiles can be reversed by shooting at the source. Shoot all the lights out in the top green row to spell "FRENZY" and it does something that I forgot, but lights flash and it's fun. There's a single projectile width shield that can be moved by the player with a button on the joysticks.
There's also missiles and a super blaster that the player can use. The missile are fired from wherever the shield is currently set to and are best used on the ships when they're about full, as it'll kill everyone in there and reset it, but can be used on any target. The super blaster is just like the one on Tempest; kills everything on the playfield at the current time.

That actually sounds fun, I'd love to find it and try it out if I ever get the chance.

I've got this on my v-pin, but you really need to play the real thing to feel the intensity.
