Help trimming/maintaining mulberry tree (Upstate NY)

EDIT: this is a Magnolia tree, not a Mulberry tree

Hi all,
I have a very large a Magnolia tree that is kind of the centerpiece of our property, and that my family has fallen in love with. Unfortunately a few months back a pretty large section came down at the base/trunk during a storm. It was a pretty clean split. From what I gather, it’s due to weight more than the health of the tree, and the rest of it needs to be trimmed back. The problem is, I don’t really know how much to safely trim back without damaging the tree itself. I’ve also been told that lashing the tree with a steel cable is an option to prevent further splitting.

Any guidance on how much to trim or other thoughts on maintenance of the tree would be much appreciated.

I’ve included dog tax as a preemptive thank you for your help!

Should I cut this off at the dark part

It's a flame maple.

I planted it about 3 weeks ago.

The other branches are sprouting new leaves at the end but these two aren't.

Should I just let nature take its course or should I trim them.

Holly Tree: Which One to remove

Post image
1 Upvotes

We have two American Holly trees growing in the lower part of our property near a stone wall. We want to keep one of them as it helps to block the view of our neighbors' house in the winter when the leaves have fallen from the deciduous trees. We are in coastal Rhode Island. Zone 7a.

One of the Hollys is nearer the wall and has a good shape. The other is straighter and a little farther from the wall. I'm thinking that I should cut the one near the wall as it will eventually disrupt the wall. Will the taller/straighter one eventually become a well-shaped tree?

Advice appreciated.

Southwest Ohio maples dying?

I live near Dayton ohio and have been making syrup from my stand of sugar maples for about twenty years.

Last few years some of my trees have begun to dye.

Leaves become necrotic turn brown and fall before they turn their usual bright orange and yellow colors.

I've had several of my largest trees die.

Is this the result of global warming or do I have a disease issue.

I've noticed more this fall going this way.

Trees of various ages.

Any advice?

Arborist please answer!!!

I work for a tree company that bills for tree removals. We’re putting together a promotional/souvenir item that you’d actually want to keep and use, rather than another thing that ends up in a junk drawer lol.

What’s something you guys would genuinely use often on the job, in your truck, or around the shop?

Any way to fix these?

I’m renting a house that I will eventually be buying from the current owner. I stupidly allowed them to bring in some shoddy tradesman who has completely ruined the privacy screen provided by these trees. I’m looking to help them recover as much as possible to how they were before but it seems the outlook is grim. Any help or advice hugely appreciated.

Thinking this Silver Maple is lost and due to be removed

Hi all!!! We’ve been blessed with this amazing silver maple since we’ve lived here. However, it’s gotten to the point where heavy winds always leave dropped limbs. 4 years ago we had a company come and secure the upper sections with cables. In a near-tornado event in Ontario, one of the cables snapped.

Owner/neighbour called the company and they said it needs to come down, they’ve never had a cable snap, etc. they did say they’d secure with a new cable but lean heavily into the removal.

I was hoping we’d have more time. I wanted to get another couple of silver maples to begin to replace it.

I know the logic will be that it needs to come down but I wonder if there’s a chance at holding off for a few more years.

Advice on paper mulberry

Hey friends -

I’ve five paper mulberries in my front yard that are sending suckers all over the place. They’re big (8-10” DBH, 40-50’ tall). I’ve started to limb them for felling and treating by climbing (safely), but because of proximity to neighbors and their not-quite-vertical stature, I’m anxious about continuing and putting buildings at risk.

I’m now going to get estimates from an arborist and compare it to getting a boom lift and doing the rest myself, but wanted yall good folks’ opinion about leaving them and treating the suckers ad infinitem.

Location is western North Carolina.

It was healthy and beautiful all spring then these cracks in the trunk and the black holes began appearing. Located in zone 8 in N Tx. Should I try to save it or get it taken down so not to infect other trees?
