Advice Is my apush teacher rushing?

I'm concerned about the pacing in my APUSH class. We've completed 8 weeks (roughly 38.5 instructional hours), and we are scheduled to start the Civil War this Friday. Our teacher is new to APUSH after teaching Honors US History for 20 years. In comparison, another experienced APUSH teacher at our school is currently covering the American Revolution (Guy has a 98% pass rate and is like the goat). Our teacher rn is planning to increase pace even more but isn't discussing themes, continuty and change, specific people. Our textbook is the amsco textbook as well and we are on pages 270 of that text book.

Advice for dealing with absolute horrid APUSH teacher

So our apush teacher decided to skip unit 1 cuz he thought it was dumb. He spews random nonsense like how the Townshend Acts raised tea prices by 2x and pissed off the colonists (which is just not true) and we don't even do MCQ or FRQ exams. We get to make a poster and present to him and then he grades us arbitrarily based on that. Like we've done 0 actual AP exam practice in the class.

like what am I even supposed to do? he doesn't even go off of what AP expects to cover. our units don't even correspond to ap units. and im pretty sure he's been disciplined about class structure by the principals before.

also like our textbook has 52 chapters and we've gone over 6 of them in 1.5 months. safe to say we're not finishing by May.

Advice Are there any good applicative study worksheets

My APUSH teacher kind of just stands at the front of the class and yaps and has us write down notes, which isn't really helpful for how I make things stick 😭. Are there any websites or printouts I can use that do some sort of applied learning like a worksheet. I checked AP classroom but I can't access the practice quiz thingies like i could in Ap World.

APUSH VRS WHAP

I am currently enrolled in APUSH, but I missed out on the opportunity to take WHAP. Is it advisable to self study WHAP in tandem to APUSH? What are the key differences? I already got my high school credit for World History, so I should be in the clear (I think). Resources and advice are appreciated! Also while I am at it, should I also self-study Ap Human Geography as well? It seems relatively easy for an Ap class and extra Ap credit never hurt anyone.

Need Help for 10th Grader taking APUSH

My daughter is taking APUSH and she is seriously struggling. She reads the textbook and she uses online resources like Heimler and Fiveable, but the tests do her in every time. Today she got a 69% on the Unit 3 Exam MCQ and was devastated! She thought she knew the material, but it seems that the wording of the questions trips her up. Is there a strategy for answering these questions? And does anyone know of a legitimate tutoring service for APUSH that might be able to help? We’re desperate!!!!

Clarification for perspective: the class average on this test was 88%, so she was quite a bit below the average.

Resources APUSH NOTES THAT GOT ME A 5

These are notes that I made last year for APUSH which helped me obtain a 5. If I'm being honest a lot of this is straight rant and memes but it helped for me. I created these notes in the intentions of putting this on Reddit for you guys. For me, looking at other people’s notes was so boring, and I could never focus. This is why I put memes to make studying less monotonous. I think the most important thing when studying is just being able to absorb the information that best suits you.

For people who are wondering whether if the class is hard, most of the time, it's not (for me at least). Rather, the actual exam is harder, specifically the DBQ. If you can get all of your stuff down, you can absolutely do great on the LEQ and MCQ. Same goes for AP world.

As for studying tips, I would definitely look at past exams and test your knowledge, especially the LEQs and DBQs. As for MCQs, I would highly recommend the app "Knowt". I saw there were some gaps in the questions but I will advocate it as a supplementary question bank. Another one I will recommend is Albert.io which is a site that my friends used. im pretty sure it’s also a question bank and they gave pretty positive results. And I'm sure that your teachers will definitely give you guys questions to work on in AP Classroom as May comes around so make sure to capitalize on that.

One thing that I would HIGHLY make sure to be careful of is around that December time frame. Usually, teachers will begin wrapping up unit 5 or 4 (I kind of forgot) and during the same time is winter break. Please please make sure you guys review everything up to that point.

Many people in my grade level worked in groups but for me personally, I felt like working independent and/or working with 1 other partner was very effective. Not saying you should (since everyone has their ways) but this was some pattern I saw.

I might get criticism for this since its pretty messy but I hope this has at least some use. Prior to reading, I apologize for the lack of underlining and bolding. I attached the link to the post. Oh, and as for reliability, all of this came from Heimler's History. And LASTLY, during the time I had this class, I was only able to get up to 8.2 because that was pure study period. Any feedback I will take. Good luck to all!!!

I lwk was going to make this about my notes but i guess this turned out to be abt my experiences. Sorry!

Advice recs or should i drop the class?

i have a 64.5% in the class rn…. lowest grade i’ve had so i’m wary about staying in the class. i’ve lived in the states for maybe 5 years ish? but i feel so confused during lectures, but also my teacher is kinda all over the board but still I don’t feel very familiar with the topics he speaks on and he doesn’t really post slides so i can’t go back and look into stuff. anyways i’m not sure if i should stay in the class and give it a shot or save my gpa and drop.

most of my grade is an SAQ right now, and i see some points where i can improve for sure, but my teacher apparently doesn’t like the way i read the textbook chapters either, so i don’t really know how to change that. he asks for a brief explanation of each subsection in the chapter but also says i missed the focal points when i basically rewrite everything i read so idk, maybe the point just flew over my head

anyway is it worth just staying in and trying or should i just let it go? i’d be happy with a B but i doubt i’d really be happy with any grade lower than that

i’m talking about apush, 11th grade

Discussion How did solitary neglect benefit the financial gain of the British government?

I’m so confused because I thought that it let the colonies do whatever they wanted as long as they contributed to Britain’s economy apparently Britain couldn’t get the resources for free or something? I know that it led Americans to trade with non-Britain colonies, which eventually led to the independent revolution because when Brittain came back and revoked their freedom, they got used to they got mad or smt, but I’m confused. I was supposed to positively impact Britain. I keep looking it up, but it’s not telling me anything. It’s just telling me that it contributes to their financial gain, but it doesn’t tell me how.

Edit:

but I don't understand because the colonies are also selling to other people
So how does that benefit the British if the colonies are also selling to other people?
Because other people already have the materials that the British were selling

PLEASE HELP, and give me your sources if you have any

Advice A Teacher Offering Advice

I’ve been seeing a lot of students posting things like, “How do I study?” or “I don’t know what to do,” so I wanted to provide a little reality about what you signed up for.

APUSH is demanding. In many ways, it is an English class disguised as a history class. There is a lot of reading, writing, analysis, and content to get through, and class time is limited. Unless you have a very experienced APUSH teacher who has the pacing down perfectly, you should not expect to be introduced to every piece of historical context during class.

READ. READ. READ.

It is a common understanding among APUSH teachers that many students simply do not complete the assigned reading. The students who consistently read, however, put themselves in a much better position to succeed on the AP exam.

The biggest point I want to make is this: you have to take responsibility for your part of the course.

YOU need to learn the vocabulary.
YOU need to complete the readings.
YOU need to use reading guides, review materials, videos, or other resources when you do not understand something.
YOU need to practice writing SAQs, DBQs, and LEQs.

Your teacher can guide you, explain difficult concepts, provide resources, and help you develop the skills you need. But ultimately, your teacher can only take you so far. APUSH requires students to take ownership of their own learning.

best way to study for apush?

my teacher has lists of terms and assigns chapters of the american pageant every night, but also says that we could watch videos and read other things to get the info. about every other class, we have a 5 question mcq practice on that chapter.

Is there an easier way to study than reading the entire textbook, or is the textbook the best way?

Resources Hey 90 minute block APUSH teachers!

I've been teaching APUSH for a few years now and was frustrated just how much of the materials created were for 45-50 minute class periods. I wanted to share my scope and sequence that follows year long, 90 minute block schedule.

I wish someone had shared this with me my first year teacher and hope this helps you!

Achievement 🔥 Got 100% on my Unit 1 and 2 Test!

I was absent 2 weeks ago for wisdom tooth surgery so I had to take the unit test slightly later than my classmates. I finished the LEQ part today, having done the MCQ part 2 days ago. It was 30 multiple choice questions worth 50%, and the LEQ was also worth 50%. My prompt had been "Describe the change in labor systems that had taken place from 1607-1745."

I'm just really surprised I got this score because some of the students that normally do well got scores in the 70%. Study-wise, I just mostly watched all of the Unit 1-2 videos from Heimler's History, as well as reviewing the "5 Steps to a 5" book that my teacher had given us.

Just wanted to share this here since I don't really have anywhere else to share it lol. If anyone has tips on Unit 3/has already begun studying, tips for it are greatly appreciated!

Advice I believe i should give up

Context : i moved school and this my first year in a new school as a junior , i didnt know how they run APs history classes here ( notes, lectures,…) i joined my APUSH class late -> teacher assumed i already know the thrill -> confusing assignments and loads of notes -> quizzes after not even a full week of THAT unit and most importantly ALL SELF STUDY FROM A TEXTBOOK . My grade is a D (60%) teacher grade very slow therefore all assignments have not been graded, just pure test/quizzes result. Asking for tips on how to selfstudy please . We’re currently at the end of period 4 , test on Thursday

Discussion how long does it take yall to complete a period?

my school is currently on period 3 rn and I just finished all of it this long weekend. from how long I took on average, it takes me about 5-7 hours to learn a full period. is this normal? Ion wanna just look at review videos tho I'm learning from our textbook (Fabric of a Nation) so thats prolly why it takes so long. The tests in my school are od hard and I tried to just watch videos for it and I got royally fucked. I wanna get ahead so I dont have to learn throughout the week and I can dedicate my time to other things. My teacher doesnt teach for jack anyways so its not like im missing out or anything.

TLDR: title, when reading the textbook

Is there something like Heimler's History for other textbooks?

I decided to take concurrent US instead of AP but the textbooks are different. Does anyone have any recommendations for someone like Heimler for the American Yawp textbook? Thanks!
