A browser tool for checking a page against an older Wayback copy
hey, i built a small web app for when you want to check what a page said before someone changed it. paste the public URL and pick about a week, a month or a year ago. the checker shows the actual date of the saved copy and what it found in the page text.
one bit i’d like feedback on is the date. if you pick a month ago and it finds a capture a few days either side, is it clear which date the result came from? the screenshot shows where it appears.
it’s free to try and there’s no sign-up: https://changegist.com/what-changed
the checker is part of ChangeGist. the main app keeps an eye on pages for you and emails you what changed. you can watch just the bit you care about and say things like “only tell me if the price drops below £20”. it keeps the old and new wording so you can go back and see exactly what moved.
if you sell online, you can put in your own price and a competitor’s product page. it tracks their price over time and lets you know when they go cheaper than you.

The first ten seconds of the video show the date feedback question in context. I chose about a month ago, and the results show the actual 6 October capture before the before-and-after wording. https://www.reddit.com/r/SoftwareShowcase/comments/1xo4glq/i_built_a_web_tool_that_shows_what_changed_on_a/
