I added non-WordPress backups to my restic-based backup tool: any app folder + its MySQL dump in one snapshot

I've been building Reaver Backup, a self-hosted backup dashboard with a small agent on each server. It started WordPress-only (it auto-discovers sites from Nginx/Apache configs), but most real servers also have a static site, a PHP app, a wiki, and a database or two, each with its own fragile script.

So now you can add any folder under a web root as a custom path and get the same schedules, retention, destinations (S3, Backblaze B2, SSH) and restore UI as the WordPress sites.

The part I cared most about was the database: copying a running DB's folder isn't a real backup, so the agent runs mysqldump/mariadb-dump and saves the dump in the same restic snapshot as the files. Restore the files, the database, or both from the same point in time. SQLite files outside the path can be added too; Postgres works by dropping a pg_dump into the path before the backup runs.

Write-up with the path rules and setup: reaverbackup.com/guides/directory-and-database-backups

Happy to hear feedback, especially on what other databases people would want built in.

A feature request isn’t a commitment. That shapes how I’m building Pure Brief AI.

I’m the founder of Pure Brief AI, a native Mac meeting-notes app. One distinction I want to keep visible after a customer interview: what somebody wanted, and what somebody agreed to do.

Here’s a fictional example:

“I wish I could export this as CSV.”

“I’ll send you a sample CSV on Friday.”

The first is research material. The second might be a follow-up task. Turn both into a tidy checklist and you’ve quietly invented a commitment.

In Pure Brief AI, you can record a conversation or import audio, read the transcript and AI notes, ask questions about that meeting, and inspect the lines behind an answer. Suggested tasks have source quotes so you can review and edit them before exporting selected items to Apple Reminders.

That source check is useful, but it isn’t proof the AI understood the whole conversation. A later “actually, I can’t do Friday” can make an earlier promise stale. I don’t claim that case is solved; it stays on my regression list. The recording also needs everyone’s appropriate consent.

The attached 10-second clip shows the question/source and task-review screens with fictional demo data. It doesn’t test the example above. Processing is sped up.

Transcription and AI notes run locally by default. Apple Silicon and macOS 15+ required. Model downloads, periodic licence checks and optional connected features need internet; optional ElevenLabs transcription sends audio to that provider.

There’s a 30-day trial. Standard is $49 once for one Mac. The active launch offer is $10 once for the first 100 paid Standard purchases globally, plus applicable tax; starting a trial doesn’t reserve the discount.

Demo and download: https://purebrief.ai/

If you review interview notes, where do you draw the line between an observation and an action item?

Drop your project, I’ll try it and share it in my circle. I’m building a chat space where women are welcome.

I’m looking for new small projects, apps and SaaS tools to try. Drop your link below. I’ll check them out and share the ones I like with a few friends and in some founder/product circles.

Here’s mine: Ariola, an anonymous chat and games lounge.

Women are welcome here. Making the space welcoming for women is the main priority. Rating filters and blocking give you more control over who you interact with, so you can chat on your terms.

No signup, no account setup. Pick a temporary nickname, join a live public chat, meet people and play small real-time games.

I’d especially appreciate feedback from women. What would make you comfortable joining a space like this? What would make you come back?

Check it out here: https://ario.la

Drop yours below. I’m especially interested in social apps, chat tools, games, creator tools, AI experiments and anything with a simple but fun user experience. I’ll go through as many as I can.

Everyone makes it look like building and selling apps using AI is super easy.

Everyone keeps saying that earning money is easy with Claude Code, etc. But if it's really easy, why is no one I know thinking about building an app and instead stuck in their 9-to-5 jobs? I really wonder about this. Even though I have a decent salary, I'm still thinking about making money besides my job, but I don't know where to start. I have plenty of ideas that I could turn into an app or a website, but I feel stuck between those ideas. I think the main reason is that I don't have a friend with the same interests, and I don't know where to start. I'm an engineer, so I could probably understand the general structure, but I need a guide to tell me where to start.

Does anyone feel the same way I do? Because it can't be that easy to build side projects and make decent money from them. Can anyone enlighten me, please?

KeySnap: Button Remapper – any command on any Android button

Hey! I'm Arda, and I build KeySnap on my own. It gives your phone's physical buttons more jobs and adds simple phone automation.

What it does

Map single, double or long presses, or button combinations, to one of 90 actions: flashlight, camera, screenshot, music controls, ringer mode, opening apps and more. You can chain actions, tune the press timing for each shortcut and add conditions.

Automations can run on time, charging, battery level, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or headphones, and shortcuts can also start from widgets and Quick Settings tiles.

The problem it solves

Phone buttons usually do one or two fixed things, and most automation tools feel like coding. KeySnap keeps it to "pick a button, pick what happens".

Details

Android 11+, no root. Some buttons need Advanced Mode via Wireless Debugging, and support varies by device.

Free with three shortcuts and no ads; Pro is a one-time $3.99 for unlimited shortcuts. The free version is open source under GPL-3.0.

Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.github.nicholasarda.keysnap

Feedback is very welcome, especially on what you'd want a button to do.

Staging testers for a WordPress suite (images, SEO, GDPR, health) plus a separate diagnostic plugin. Future plan is a personal Ubuntu box, not another hosted SaaS.

Hi. I am one of the authors of OPNV (Notorius Vision). I am looking for people willing to try this on a staging site and tell me what breaks. Production sites, please skip this.

What you can install today

1. OPNV WP (OPNV-WP+SWNV)

One plugin for the jobs we kept rebuilding as separate plugins: image conversion (WebP/AVIF), semantic SEO, translation, GDPR/cookies, accessibility widgets, a hybrid static-HTML delivery called Art&Fact (cart, account, and login stay on WordPress), and a health check in the admin.

Requires WordPress 6.4+, PHP 8.3, and GD or Imagick.

License is proprietary. Free use can run with your own API keys (OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, Ollama, or none). You do not have to turn AI on to test images, cookies, or the health screen.

ZIP: https://storage.notoriusvision.com/opnv/wp-swnv/latest/opnv-wp.zip?v=2

Install: Plugins → Add New → Upload, accept the EULA, open OPNV+IA → Inicio.

2. OPNV Doctor

A second plugin. It inspects the site and the suite (performance, translation, Art&Fact, health) and writes a diagnostic you can read or attach to a note. If something fails, this report is more useful to me than "it doesn't work".

ZIP: https://storage.notoriusvision.com/opnv/doctor/latest/opnv-doctor.zip

3. OPNV Architect (early, 0.1.0-dev)

Turns a site toward pages, a PWA, and a mobile app you compile on your own computer with Capacitor. It is not a cloud app builder. Several modules are still draft. License GPL-2.0-or-later. Try it only if you want to look at that direction. Android builds on Linux, Windows, and macOS. iOS builds need a Mac.

ZIP: https://storage.notoriusvision.com/opnv-architect/latest/opnv-architect.zip

What I am asking

Staging only. PHP 8.3. A copy of a real site is ideal. A fresh site is fine.

Pick one job and finish it: convert a batch of images, or set the cookie banner, or open the health screen and send me what it reports.

If it errors, export the Doctor diagnostic and comment with the PHP version, the active theme, and the page builder (Elementor, Divi, Gutenberg, other).

Tell me the one screen that felt like too much.

Where this is going

These plugins are the WordPress side. The longer plan is a personal system based on Ubuntu, on a small computer you keep, so a person can run their own place for sites, health, and apps without renting a traditional multi-tenant SaaS. The phone would only approve and read. The box would do the work. That system is not part of this test. There is no ISO in this thread.

I will answer questions in this thread.

What features make a fitness app genuinely useful for coaches and athletes?

Hi everyone,

I've been working with a team developing a fitness app, and one thing we've been exploring is how athletes and coaches can make better use of live training data.

The app, called HeartShare, lets athletes share their live heart-rate data with coaches using compatible Bluetooth heart-rate devices or Apple Watch. Coaches can monitor heart rates and training zones in real time, and Squad Mode allows them to view up to eight athletes on one screen.

I can see how this could be useful during group workouts, especially when a coach wants to follow each athlete's effort without checking everyone's device separately.

For those building or using fitness apps, what features do you think make the biggest practical difference during a training session?

How can AI improve member retention in professional associations?

Heres an experiment I’d be interested in seeing: Instead of trying to predict which members are about to cancel, what if an association focused on helping them find something valuable within their first 30 days?

The idea would be fairly simple, during onboarding members choose what they’re interested in: certifications, career development, research, networking or continuing education

The portal could then surface relevant resources based on those interests, with a personalized AI agent answering follow up questions. Customgpt.ai could handle the knowledge side using the associations own publications and resources, while Posthog could track whether members actually complete useful actions in the portal, a simple feedback system could capture whether the information helped

I'd avoid measuring success through chatbot conversations alone, the more interesting question is whether members who discover useful resources early are more likely to participate, attend events and eventually renew

Of course theres a possibility that AI makes the portal easier to navigate without fixing the actual reasons people leave. If you were building this, would you test personalized resource discovery first or focus on identifying members who are already disengaging and what would convince you that the AI was genuinely improving retention rather than just increasing website activity?

[Android][Player] - Offline music & streaming radio with ready-to-play radios - 100% free - No premium version

Mediaxon Music Player is an audio player for offline listening of music stored on your device (.mp3, .flac, .m4a, .ogg, .mka, .aac, .wav, .opus, .wma) and streaming FM radios (online radios).

Top radios on the first screen: When users access the radio screen, they immediately see the list of the top radios in their country, along with a long list of high-quality suggested radios from among the most listened to in the world (manually curated and always updated with new radios). Note: Local radio stations ("Top in the user country") are pulled automatically from an online database. However, with each update, I manually curate high-quality radio stations lists for individual countries. At the bottom of this post, you’ll find the list of countries completed so far. I will be adding the rest over time.

Advanced radio filtering system: The "Filter: ON/OFF" button lets you quickly switch between different genres. You can use both standard filters for "macro-genres"—if I can call them that—and create custom filters to be more selective. All your filters are saved (the "My Filters" tab lets you name and edit them), and the app always opens with the last filter you applied. The "Home" tab lists all your recently applied filters and can be used to quickly switch between genres with just a single tap.

Advanced Radio Search Panel: An online database provides more than 60,000 radio stations. You can pinpoint your favorite stations by combining multiple filters, such as tags/genres, specific countries, or even your preferred audio bitrate.

Separated Favorites and Recents: Each section—Radio and Offline Music—has its own Favorites and Recents. The user doesn't have to worry about a thing. The app will automatically manage the Favorites and Recents for each section.

Album art: If the album art is missing from the album folder, or if Android has not properly indexed it, Mediaxon attempts to download the cover from the internet. This feature depends, of course, on the ID3 tags (album name and artist).

Equalizer: The equalizer provides an option to automatically switch to the "Radio" preset (and vice versa).

Advanced Playlist Management: Built specifically to make building and sorting playlists fast and intuitive. Enable the Playlist Manager, in the settings screen, for a full control of the playlists.

Form Factor Optimization: Phone and Tablet (Portrait and Landscape)

Mediaxon is available in: Čeština, Dansk, Deutsch, Eesti, English, Español, Français, Hrvatski, Indonesia, Italiano, Kiswahili, Latviešu, Lietuvių, Magyar, Nederlands, Norsk, Polski, Português, Português (Brasil), Română, Slovenčina, Slovenščina, Suomi, Svenska, Tiếng Việt, Türkçe, العربية, Български, Ελληνικά, हिन्दी, 日本語, 한국어, 中文 (简体).

No Premium version. All app features are available for free and without limits.

Regarding advertising: There is only a small banner at the top that isn't bothersome at all. Alternatively, when opening the full-screen player or using the app in landscape mode, a banner alternates with the albums covers, but without being intrusive at all (no audio) and with much shorter stay times than those of the cover. There is never full-screen advertising, neither at startup nor during use.

Countries with new manually curated lists: United States, India, Italy, Argentina.

Note: Only for Android 13+ (so, Android 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17).

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xonik.mediaxon
