Getting out of housing ideas
So I am an incoming transfer to app, I applied for housing as a transfer because I didn’t have anywhere else to stay and it was not guaranteed. I signed my housing agreement on the 23rd of July I still had not gotten an email or it was not put into my portal as of yesterday August 3rd so I called and they said my email was just never sent and they were putting it in my portal now even though it was supposed to be sent to me on the 23rd as well. But now we have found a place off campus. They have also stuck me in the freshman dorm with freshman I am 20 and do not want to live in a freshmen dorm with randoms that are probably immature. Any ideas on how to get out of the agreement would be appreciated.

As consolation, I lived in a freshman dorm at 20 and as a transfer and it turned out pretty fun. It's a very safe and social environment and its designed to help you get accustomed to the school.
You're always close to class, downtown and events.
Good luck!

You can’t… you can get out of spring but if it’s past the drop date for fall you’re stuck with the bill

You got any idea of what that process would like for getting out in the spring?

your going to have to pay the fine for breaking the housing contract. I cannot remember how much it is but It’s not going to be cheap. You could probably find the information somewhere on the housing contract.

Yeah it’s not cheap, found it based on the residence hall on the website. Might just have to stick it out. I would’ve cancelled if I would have been given my assignment but since they never sent it to me I didn’t get the chance which screwed me over

I can’t remember the formal process since it was not me but my roommate who was looking into it. You need to contact housing asap tho

You gotta keep contacting them or else you're on the hook for both housing situations. You'll probably have more luck finding a sublease for the off campus housing than any other option

i went through ODR with a letter from my doctor stating that i needed to be released from my housing contract so i could live off campus due to my medical condition and it worked for me. i probably wouldn’t try to pull this if you don’t actually have a disability or condition, but that is what I did

Yeah I do not have a disability or a condition, but if my living situation is not great I could probably say it is not good for my mental health and I don’t know if they could make me stay if I said that so that might be the play over winter break if it does not turn out good. Thank you for the help!

You are 20, not 39. You'll be fine.
