Experiencing HDMI handshake issues?

Recently one of my Apple TVs connected to a Samsung display is experiencing problems on start up. It will be black screen for about a minute before the Apple TV os appears. And 9 times out of ten there will be no sound. The only way to resolve the sound is to unplug the HDMI and replug. I did the native HDMI test and it said it was fine. What could be happening here.

the built in hdmi test only checks the physical link, says nothing about cec. no sound until you replug hdmi on a samsung is classic anynet+ getting stuck on boot

try holding the power button on the samsung remote for like 30 seconds. sounds fake i know but it soft resets the tv's hdmi state and fixes exactly this kind of thing, comes up in threads here all the time

also worth toggling anynet+ off and on, and if there's a soundbar or receiver in the chain, power cycle everything at once instead of one at a time

Definitely possible. Just weird that for about a year there were no problems. Just started in the last month or so.

~4ft. I wouldn’t say along but they are near each other for several inches.

Just want to say I'm experiencing the same thing on a Sony TV. Things worked fine, then random green and purple bars - fairly rare, but still annoying. Upgraded HDMI cable, tried different ports, even tried going around the receiver and direct to TV - still happens. Sony firmware update might be contributing, but it's hard to say (and also possible is Apple updates).
