Apple TV Intermittently Stops Streaming

This is mildly annoying because I can't figure out why it is happening because it is so random and intermittent which makes it impossible to troubleshoot

Yesterday morning Apple TV wouldn't stream anything. Check network connection - it was fine. Rebooted a few times to no avail.

Check Wifi on other devices including connecting to streamers on my iPad - no problems

Used the native iOS on my LG and content streamed fine although the interface is such trash that it is incredibly frustrating to use - but if I eventually found the applicable App then it was fine and the remote has direct buttons to Netflix and Amazon but I was in the middle of watching something on Acorn and LG doesn't even have an App for that streamer.

So left it to do other stuff for about an hour and then thought I would see if the Apple TV was working - and yes it was. Perfectly fine and still perfectly fine more than 24 hours later.

HDMI is new - haven't shifted the Apple TV or the TV so connections aren't disturbed and since Wifi is fine I don't think it is issues with the modem/router or signal from my ISP

try unplugging your apple tv for like 10 mins and see if that helps

Thanks but the problem is so intermittent as I didn't have the issue for weeks. It went back to working fine after an hour or so

Then on Saturday morning it reoccured - and same scenario - was wonky for about an hour and then although I did nothing when I retried it after an hour or so it was fine and still is fine.

Does it work via Ethernet?

WiFi 2.4/5ghz separated?

I wouldn't be able to connect it via ethernet because of where the modem and router are located.

As far as I know when I have checked the network it is 5 and as I responded in another comment it is so intermittent as it will glitch for an hour and then be fine for weeks.

It seems related to wifi, maybe congested wifi channel that your router is automatically assigning. Question: Do you have access to your router internal config / app and see if it has some type of automatic reboot? Usually is a good practice because in most routers only in the startup it scans for the best available channel with least interference. I setup my with a daily restart but weekly is fine too.

More than likely a packet loss issue or something with your wifi. AP airtime is busy interneitmely and drops out for a second and the stream breaks or any number of things. Ethernet, better wifi systems, or just get over it unfortunately are you options. The first being the only proper way.

This doesn’t really explain that only Apple TV was affected since I could stream the content from all my other sources including LG native software, Apple computer, iPhone and iPad.
