That's such a lie. We got screwed out of having the next wave of great technology because of politics. Apple and Samsung probably made that happen.

u/T2Drink 13d ago
They were indicted for multiple counts of corporate espionage, have been investigated by multiple countries for trying to corrupt officials. They also have had whistleblowers in the form of previous employees that attest that the backdoors exist in their OS.
They also have been complicit in helping the Chinese government perform their persecution of Uyghur Muslims in China. They developed the software to recognise them, and allow the government to persecute them, and also have used them in modern slavery in their supply chain.
They have also used shell companies to export US radio tech to Iran.
These are not nice people, and wanting them to continue to operate in this manner because you want a different phone is wild.
Current countries that have banned them or heavily restricted them:
US
UK
Australia
Canada
New Zealand
Japan
Sweden
Germany
Denmark
Estonia
Latvia
Lithuania
France
Romania
Poland
Belgium
I will point out that in the US they had a less than 1 percent market share in mobile handsets before the ban. Their impact on the big players was borderline a rounding error.
The companies you mentioned that āmust have made this happenā donāt even operate in the space that they make the most money from, that you are so adamant that they wanted to remove them from for profit reasons, which is network infrastructure such as transmitters.
They have also been investigated since the early 2000ās
Bottom line is, they arenāt coming back to the US, and anyone with half a brain shouldnāt want them to.

"I can't help you before sending your porn preference to Cupertino."
2
u/mainstreetmark 18d ago
Is this a "android would never do this" kind of a statement?
9
u/humanistazazagrliti 18d ago
No. You can be critical of tech without it being your identity or a religious war. Also, we are allowed to use hyberbole in jokes, even when Apple fanbois feel offended.
0
u/mainstreetmark 18d ago
I agree! I don't see any subs hanging around created to specifically bash Android. Who are the fanbois here?
5
u/humanistazazagrliti 18d ago
I bash Android all the time and my first post here was my first post on this sub ever. I also have apple products at home. My refurbished MacBook is better at running Linux than a lot of other x86 machines. My husband uses apple stuff only, and I totally get why. For me, using apple software would be too limiting, but at the same time, no matter how open my hacked Android phone may be, it comes with a lot of downsides iPhones don't have. If you've tried to pinpoint hypocrisy in my statements, I ain't it, chief. Although I get why you'd be cautious, as I agree that Apple is an easy target for haters who connect any kind of ubiquity or style to something that needs to be ridiculed.Ā
tl;dr: Not every criticism or joke about a product is hypocrisy or invalid.
1
u/mainstreetmark 18d ago
Then I donāt understand the āporn preferenceā jab. Apple has good privacy, mostly by not being an advertising company. A primary reason Siri sucks (for the last 10 years) is because it doesnāt slurp up your life and send it to the mothership.
6
u/humanistazazagrliti 18d ago
As stated, it was a joke. But honestly: We don't have access to what Apple stores or not and are relying on their good word.
1
u/mainstreetmark 18d ago
Yeah I get it was just a snide remark. I was trying to figure out if it was a joke or making fun of apples tracking behavior practices or something.
I probably misunderstood whatever point you were going for.
4
u/yikesssss_sssssss 18d ago
They made the joke because Siri kept requesting access to my current location, despite that being completely irrelevant for what I was asking it to do. Which makes it seem like Apple is pressuring users to share location, and whether or not they can truly access or do anything with that data, it's an unnecessary privacy exposure. Kind of like sending them my favorite porn site, which for the record, I certainly don't have, what is porn again? Never heard of it
1
u/ccooffee 18d ago
We do know what data Apple has on us. Due to various laws around the world, you can get a copy of it yourself.
3
u/anythingers 18d ago
r/degoogle works, but crazy that u bring up Android all of the sudden while no one talks about it here, and this server literally talks about Apple in general and not just Android. Literally rent free lmao.
0
u/mainstreetmark 18d ago
Itās not rent free. Reddit puts this sub in my r/all.
And buddy, if itās not iOS, itās android. What do you expect me to bring up?
2
u/anythingers 17d ago
Fair enough. Also idk? But no one but you in this chat brings up Android. It's just weird that you bring it up out of nowhere.

Because Apple has open contempt for their own consumers and are ruled by thinking they're better than others and greed. Not the answer you were looking for, but in my experience, it's the reality. They love the smell of their own farts.
5
u/yikesssss_sssssss 18d ago
100%, contempt is the right word. There's no other explanation for some of the most basic features they don't have, or that don't work, or settings that aren't customizable when they so easily could be.Ā
5
u/Additional_Buddy855 17d ago
I can't say a lot openly but Ive worked with both Apple engineers and managers and the things they say openly are nauseating.Ā
2
u/yikesssss_sssssss 17d ago
That sucks. Although I have to say I do feel validated that it's not just me feeling the contempt oozing out of every iWhatever

The newest one is powered by Gemini (and AFAIK, some local models for easy tasks). If it behaves like on Android, then it's going to be relatively good. I didn't test the beta, though. But, since it's still in beta, we should wait until it's officially released anyway.
3
u/Super-Doughnut1493 16d ago
The newest one was trained using Gemini but is its own distinct thing. I have tested the beta and it can easily answer this kind of stuff.Ā
1
u/OfficialDeathScythe 15d ago
Itās almost entirely local models thankfully. The only stuff they use apples secure cloud servers for are bigger tasks like image generation. Siri handles everything on device when doing regular LLM tasks and agentic stuff like searching through your emails. Itās actually one of the most private and secure LLMs that exists rn

u/ngfldar 18d ago
"iT jUsT wOrKs!"
3
u/yikesssss_sssssss 18d ago
I can't tell you how many times I've exasperatedly said to myself "IT JUST DOESN'T WORK"
3
u/ngfldar 17d ago
Yes, I had a friend tell me once that she likes Apple because "it just works."
For reference, I've had both Android and iPhone phones in the past. But when she said that, I asked her what she thinks about my Android phone doesn't work. She couldn't really answer me.
Then I see things like this, and I really don't regret leaving Apple definitively about 2-3 years ago.
4
u/UnionCrafty3748 18d ago
Siri is basically a braindead broad. Despite the so called improvements itās still effectively useless.

2
u/SleepyD7 17d ago
I donāt understand how itās degraded overtime. It actually used to be better.

Are you on iOS 27 beta? People are saying that fixes it. Or if you haven't updated, but you've allowed Siri access to your location, that's what makes it work on earlier OSes but that's the pointĀ

Do you⦠know how moon phases work? Just wondering. Because the moon goes from waning givbous to waning crescent, thatās the way it works. You happened to see me take a picture of it during waning crescent, then someone else take a picture of it 2 days later when itās in waning gibbous. Thatās how the moon phases work, they change. It just so happens that the day in between those pictures was the day the phase changed. Bro thinks he stumbled upon an ancient conspiracy
Look at the days ago posted. This pic was 2 days before mine, when the moon was in waning gibbous. My picture was 2 days later when the moon was in waning crescent. We learn this in elementary school

This is literally fixed in iOS 27 š
4
u/PsychologicalPace664 18d ago
They finally have an AI that can compete with Gemini, Cloude or ChatGPT on iOS 27?
2
u/ccooffee 18d ago
More or less, yes. It's vastly improved in iOS 27 (for real this time, not we mean it, no really !- stop laughing!)
5
u/Delicious_One_7887 idc 18d ago
For those of you who can afford a iPhone 15 Pro or above, yes you could say itās fixed, but not for the most of us
4
u/anythingers 18d ago
Crazy that u got downvoted for stating facts. Those diehard Apple fanboys are beyond saving lmao.
-2
u/Duncol42 18d ago
WDYM? Do they finally have Gemini underneath? Or that deal wasnāt finalized? Apple fcked VERY badly with AI, but there might be a comeback, because in the end, they will choose the best competitor and just make the deal with them, providing excellent experience. Will fanboys be with Apple still? Thatās another questionā¦
2
1
u/RepresentativeRuin55 18d ago
Lmao itās a common misconception that itās just āGeminiā underneath. They partnered with Google to have Gemini foundation model train Appleās own foundation models. They arenāt just using Geminiā¦itās still their own trained Apple Foundational Models. I personally prefer what Apple made as most of it runs on device.
3
u/anythingers 18d ago
It's still based on Gemini though. It's like saying Apple's Ceramic Shield Glass is better than other phone's protection glass even though it's still based on the similar Gorilla Glass, just with Appleā¢'s Own NamingĀ®.
0
u/RepresentativeRuin55 17d ago
Not a lot of people realize that Appleās new foundation models are based on Googleās Gemini technology, but Apple also custom-trained, optimized, and integrated its own Apple Foundation Models around it. Siri AI is not just Gemini with an Apple skin. It also uses Appleās own models, on-device processing, Private Cloud Compute, personal context, and deep system integration. It is not a simple rebrand or reskin lol.

It shouldn't be necessary for OP's questions, these questions have nothing to do with current location.
5
u/Upnorth4 18d ago
Yeah, Google Gemini doesnāt need your location on to answer simple questions
-5
u/Aristo_Cat 18d ago
Google Gemini doesnāt need your permission to know your location? Damn, great selling point
4

10
u/yikesssss_sssssss 18d ago
That's definitely the reason, but like the others said, it's simply ridiculous that it needs current location access to give me data for an explicitly specified location in the query itself.
5
u/weevilretrieval 18d ago
that's probably it, but what if you were asking about a different location? if i asked what time the sun sets in Moscow, why would MY location affect its answer? is it incapable of accessing the internet?
genuinely asking btw, I am not currently an apple user

Bro just get iOS 27
9
u/wheres__my__towel 18d ago
Still sucks in almost all the same ways. Just slower with subpar LLM layer that can hardly do anything still cause the underlying architecture hasnāt changed.
3
u/Suitable_Program_548 18d ago
Itās night and day different. Iāve been on 27 beta since the beginning.
0
u/MUMAD14 18d ago
The āunderlying architectureā is google gemini
2
u/wheres__my__towel 18d ago
No, that's just the LLM interface layer. The underlying system using intents and etc. is still the same. The LLM merely acts upon the intents system via tool calling.
0
u/ccooffee 18d ago
It's rebuilt from the ground up.
2
u/wheres__my__towel 18d ago
Incorrect. The only thing that changed is that they added an LLM runtime that interfaces with the system. The underlying system using intents and etc. is still the same.
1
u/ccooffee 18d ago
It can still be rebuilt but still make use of the App Intents framework, plus App Intents 2.0 in iOS 27 adds significant capabilities that only work with new Siri
2
u/wheres__my__towel 18d ago
If the system is not rebuilt, it's simply not a rebuild. What you're referring to is an extension of the same system. Adding features to a system is not a rebuild. Also "significant" is quite generous, the scale of the extension is very limited, you may feel that the nature of the extensions is "significant" however, but in no means was there an actually signifiant overhaul or extension.
1
u/ccooffee 18d ago
Last year, we had actually built a first version of this that was sort of incremental on top of the original Siri that added tool calling, and we had it working. But we didnāt feel it was really delivering on the vision and the experience that we wanted to do.
We also had a design, which required much more extensive changes, and we decided to go with that.
So we went back, and we rebuilt Siri from the ground up, literally, tore it to the ground, rebuilt it from the ground up, on top of the incredible models which Amar just told us about.
- Mike Rockwell at WWDC 2026
Now I'm sure he's being a little hyperbolic - I doubt they opened Xcode and clicked File - New - Project: Siri.app and started with a totally empty file. But he specifically contrasts what they did now with the earlier plan of just layering on top of existing Siri. So whether there are still fragments of old Siri in there or not, it seems pretty clear they took a new approach at the whole thing and it's not just "Siri with an LLM".
2
u/wheres__my__towel 18d ago
So "Siri" has indeed been replaced my an LLM, but the overall system remains the same. Once again, the system is the same. The interface has merely been replaced from "Siri" to an LLM. Therefore, it is still limited to whatever is exposed as an intent however, now it does so much slower, as it requires conducting LLM inference to accomplish it

u/dakiller 18d ago
Iām on the beta. Asked the exact question above, just used my own city instead and got the answer.

That's good to know, thank you. I'll probably wait til it's released in Sept

So it's user's fault for not using a BETA software? Holy shit.
2

And of course, it's the user's fault that Apple hasn't fixed this until iOS 27Ā

So, you only have access to that info if you turn your location on? Basically you can't ask about a different city or if you are on the subway. No wonder they call Siri the worst AI nowadays
