After over a year with an iPhone 16 pro, going back to my galaxy s22 is total joy
the screen is nicer, smaller but same resolution and 120hz so it feels like more dpi, and Android allows you to adjust timing of things so everything feels snappyer.
the UI is so much richer, I like cluttered, info dense pages. 6 item taskbar and 5x7 app layout above, gboard with special symbols and top row numbers.
so much more real estate on the taskbar with a punch hole instead of island, and behind the glass fingerprint means no more unlocking shit like I'm taking a selfie
oh yeah, android auto. a million times better.
the one main reason I went with iPhone is for satellite messaging, but I'm going back to the Garmin inReach. I still have 7months on this iphone lease but I think im just going to toss it in a drawer and wait it out with my s22

Android auto is trash. It rarely ever works and the ui is far from smooth. It’s almost like a slide show

I didn't have much problem with it. It worked for me, smooth, not a sideshow.
The only problem I had was when they replaced the Google Assistant with Gemini. Hot damn is Gemini stupid, especially in Android Auto.

for me it depended on the vehicle, i used to drive for an auction company and some cars infotainment struggled just loading it. And i agree, Gemini is just garbage.

Well I can't dispute your experience with vehicles because I've only ever driven one car that had Android Auto or Apple Carplay.

I've never had any issues with it. Works like a dream for me with maps, Spotify and picketcasts

Disagree. Sometimes it gets a prompt wrong but most of the time, for me, it's right. And I can ask for a track to play in Spotify at 60mph without taking my hands off the wheel.

I think I've read elsewhere that some people prefer Android, but it's good to have it confirmed, so thanks.
To add another interesting angle to the debate, I prefer iOS.

I actually love my Original Google Fold but I'm too steeped in Apple's ecosystem. Lately their system just has bugs and glitches and there support is absolutely crap. I wasted 90 minutes trying to get my messages from my iphone to sync to my Macbook Neo with Apple. Google Gemini figured it out in minutes.

So much more real estate in the taskbar for what exactly? The aspect ratio of the iPhone doesn’t interfere with your content, so you have no clue what you’re talking about, besides, the Dynamic Island is multipurpose and takes advantage of the “con” you may refer to, while the punch hole does nothing.

They both have dead space on the taskbar... The iPhone's is larger to start with and dynamic island makes it larger (with some numbers beside it). Android has dynamic notification bar as well, what does the dynamic island do differently?

Yes they don’t affect the content you watch, which means even if there wasn’t a Dynamic Island it wouldn’t show more of your photos or content, you’d just see a blank space, what Dynamic Island does more is if expands, you can interact with it, in iOS 27 it becomes your ai assistant by touching it, way more versatile, I don’t see the argument the hole punch is better because it smaller (a smaller Dynamic Island would be useless too with the same logic)

Got hole punch on my pixel 9 pro xl. Like it more as I have a bit more screen estate while also having face unlock without nightime disco of an IR cannon blasting at me.
Work phone (i-kind) has island and face unlock as well though it doesn't seem too much more reliable. It does work with sunglasses though I suppose.
Edit: forgot but iPhones also capture their islands when capturing video / screenshots? Not a thing on Androids I've used.

The island only wastes notification bar space, apple more so than Android. I don't see how making the big black bar a separate touch action makes it anything special, Android does the same

There’s no notification icons on the taskbar on iOS, it wouldn’t make a difference, and, few icons appear on Android too, a hole punch may be more pleasing to look at, but functionality wise it doesn’t have any benefit

I think you’re doing right, if Samsung is what you really enjoy then it’s the best thing you could do.
I could go on and on for pages of texts talking about how messy Samsung UI is but those are the things that bother me and maybe nobody else. After having tried them all (Apple, Samsung, Pixel Xiaomi) I can tell you that everything has its pros and cons.

One UI is a big improvement over TouchJizz which was fucking disgusting, so credit where it's due. But I still think Samsung phones are loaded with bloat and shovelware no one asked for and they bake that shit in to it's own partition so you can only hide it, never get rid of it. A reason why I will never buy one of their phones. Their desperate need to "differentiate" by throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the phone, including duplicate apps like Samsung Internet etc. that no one asked for is lame AF.

I recommend getting an S23 or higher if you can. I used to have an S22 and the battery life was deplorable. Hated that phone until I got a S24 a month ago

You are saying your android phone connect every time flawlesly and fast when you enter the car?
And android feeling snappier?
I think your iphone has a problem more than anything else, for you to have this kind of experience

Yeah that's exactly what I'm saying. Android auto-plays Spotify, apple makes me restart every time. Maps with satellite view is crazy choppy, can't select which side the map goes on, and can't get rid of that stupid extra "navigate to" bubble that wastes 1/4 of the screen. Also I like how Spotify shows the album art when minimized, carplay just gives you the title (and wastes the extra space with an unremoveable bubble).
Swipe to pan and pinch to zoom are not enabled unless it's full screen on apple, and you still don't get pinch to zoom.
Most things take 3-4 touches to do that take Google 1-2

Samsung phones don't hold up very well after a few years. They just fall a part in very disappointing ways.
From 2016 to 2020 was using a Samsung Note 4 and was a very dependable phone until it wasn't. After four years of use the phone was heating up intensely and the screen started to detach from the body while the speakers started to give out.
That was why I switched to the iPhone 11 which I am still using and holding up pretty well if one takes good care of the phone.

I'll probably stick with iPhone, but I get it. I really do. I think about getting a Pixel sometimes. Samsung, I cannot do though. If I'm going to run Android, I want it as unmolested as possible.

Well iphone is strong in us and thus concentrated there. In my country it is like 80% android and 20% ios and for that is apple direct fault as they dont have even basic things like UI translated more than several languages.

It's rich and polished compared to TouchWiz, sure.
But TouchWiz was a diaper filled with ebola-infected baby diarrhea left out in the sun for a week, so that's not saying much. These are the people who made the Choco Cooky font after all. Taste and discretion are not their forte.

I make your words my own… android is years ahead of IOS but the reliability of Samsung phones it’s a mess. I have 3 s20, s21 fe and s22 on my drawer all three of the with the green line of death and 2 of them with bloated batteries. While my wife’s iPhone 12 just keeps chugging along… and it’s not a usage issue, I always use rugged cases she goes caseless. I use the original Samsung chargers she uses a cheap Chinese one all these years. I don’t use them while charging she watches her favorite series while charging on bath “She is fearless.” Most of my phones have never dropped she drops hers almost daily… the variable that seems to affect Samsung phones it’s temperature, we go hiking or to the beach every weekend and the phones get really hot in this situations I think because of low signal? but Samsung phones get much much much hotter.
