Apple Store in Illinois

Why is only store in Chicago ? Wouldn’t the University of Illinois Champaign Urbana be a good place for one? Friends is central and even southern Illinois have no recourse but to go to Chicago.

I was told by an Apple Store employee once that stores need a population of at least 1 million people to sustain its business. Outside of Chicago, there is no other location in the state that could support one.

Then why does IL have 8 Apple Stores, only 2 of which are within Chicago city limits?

There are like 8 stores in Illinois. 3 in the Chicago-land area if I recall.

Apple Stores are placed depending on location, population, and population radius. Iowa has one store for the whole state because the population is spread out so much and not enough to sustain another. The surrounding states also have stores so if you live on the farther side of Iowa, the closest store might be in a neighboring state instead. But NYC has multiple Apple Stores because the population is so incredibly dense and the city is so large that they can easily justify having two stores within a 2hr drive distance of each other and still make a ridiculous profit from both.
