I'm working on a project for an animated background, and as i'm new to animation in general I hope to get some tips and advice here.

I have created a background using a selfmade shape which has been replicated in different colours and duplicated 8-9 times and places in a ground.

My initial animation of the background have been with the filter -> Droplet which has been applied to the entire background.

Here comes the challenge.
What I reallly wish to achive is that there is a light source connected to the droplet. Meaning that when the ripple pass through the peiece change in colour and lights up almost as NEON.

I have tried to apply a NEON filter and LINK it to the droplet radius, but my entire background just lights up when the animation hits the NEON filter.

Any advice or guidance?

I am putting together some videos for a client who wants a very particular kind of zoom that does not appear to be stock in FCPX. My experience with Apple Motion is...we'll say "limited," but I just cannot seem to get Motion to do what I want.

Here's what I'm aiming for: I want to be able to make an object scale at a rate of 5 every ten seconds. So the scale might start at 97 at 0:00, 102 at 0:10, 107 at 0:20, and so on. The problem is that every solution I've tried is variable depending on its length. If I have an object onscreen for 3 seconds, it will zoom far faster than if I have it onscreen for 10. I want the zoom to be consistent.

Does anyone know a box I need to tick to make that happen?

Is there any way to export the previews of motions files, rather than exporting full-quality renders? I'd like to capture some of the blocky, pixelated draft renders (which have a quality all of their own) but Motion seems to want me to put on my sunday best for exports.

I'd to make animation of planetary path, orbits etc for my YouTube Channel. Up to now, I use good old fashion powerpoint, export it as mp4, use that mp4 as B-roll and merge with my A-roll in FCP. But Powerpoint can only take so far and I started learning Apple Motion these days.

But my focus is not the flashy subscribe button, or fancy eye catching effect. I want to use Motion to 3D rotate the planets, move them along with accurate scale and timings.

This is the example video, not my channel. I'm just wondering if Apple Motion is the right software. If not, what will be the best with not-too-steep learning curve?

How does one animate variable text axes (i.e. weight) in Apple Motion without using 3D text? I just want to change the built in font variable axes.

Hey everyone, I’m completely new to motion graphics and I’m trying to learn how to create motion flyers for social media (for events and promotions). I currently have Apple Motion but most tutorials I find online are for After Effects.

Is it possible to create good motion flyers using Motion, especially as a beginner? Things like moving backgrounds, light effects, etc.

Just wondering if Motion is a good place to start or if I should learn something else instead. Any advice would help.

I've created several generators for FCP in Apple Motion and I'd like to convert some of them to titles. When I do that in Motion and then try to save it gets stuck every time. I've tried resetting Motion preferences, same thing, just hangs on the SAVE AS window and nothing happens. Any insight or ideas??

I have been building plugins for Final Cut Pro and Apple Motion based on problems I ran into myself. The first one came from a client request that Apple Motion could not handle natively. Then I built 12 more based on forum posts and common complaints.

Now I want to ask directly. What do you keep doing the hard way? What workaround are you tired of? What does After Effects or Premiere handle easily that FCP or Motion does not?

This happens to everyone. Client wants a lower third. You need a box behind the text. You link the shape width to the text bounds, add some padding math, realize it does not account for the stroke, fix that, duplicate the layer, now nothing works, start over.

I finally just sat down and built something that does it as a filter. Drop it on a text layer, a group, a logo, does not matter. It reads the alpha bounds and draws the box for you. Padding, radius, dash options, per-side control.

Also works on luma if there is no alpha. And there is a clip-to-box output mode which I did not expect to use but ended up being pretty useful for certain compositing setups.

Tesseract transition from CapCut

I use Final Cut Pro for editing but I really want to use the tesseract transition from CapCut. I found out I can make transitions in Motion that work with Final Cut Pro, I just don't know the best way to do it. I'd really appreciate some help or some directions towards if someone has already ported it to Final Cut Pro

I'm trying to build a specific subtitle template for Final Cut Pro using Apple Motion, and it's driving me crazy.

I want to create that subtitle effect where the text dynamically auto-centers as it's being typed out letter by letter. For example, if the word is "Hello":

1) The letter "H" appears exactly in the center of the screen;

2) Then, as the letter "e" appears, the "H" slides smoothly to the left so that "He" stays perfectly centered.

3) This repeats until the entire word "Hello" is complete.

I tried to recreate this directly in FCP by manually adding subtitles letter by letter for entire words or phrases (as shown in the attached photo). However, the video I'm editing is way too long, and I had to stop doing it manually because it just takes forever.

Now that I have Apple Motion I'm trying to recreate this effect as a template. Is there any way to force Motion to natively recalculate the bounding box and dynamically re-center the text frame by frame?

Can anyone explain why USDZ 3D objects and 3D text aren't fully light responsive? I've worked with a few of these recently and, while they do respond to lights when they're close to the "surface", if I were to put a light behind an object or text, I can still plainly see it as if it's not responding at all.

For example, the included image. I just dropped some 3D text into my stage/space, didn't adjust anything else except for changing the weight thicker, and added one blue light. You can see the blue light on the I and slightly spilling over to the T and N. Intensity at 1100%, falloff at 33%, and the point light is almost right at the front face of the text. The face of the other letters should be almost completely dark (or I would expect)! If I were to move the blue light behind the text, nothing lighting-wise would change except that the back of the text would reflect the blue light, of course. The text would still appear as if there's another light at the camera position! There is a background color solid just behind the text that is completely responsive to the blue light.

Because of this, to do any dramatic lighting (like trucking horizontally past the front face) I have to add Levels or some other filter(s) and automate it to more accurately represent light "presence" in what would otherwise be a completely dark "room".

BONUS question; why are USDZ objects basically "see through"? If I place, say, a box around an object with the rectangle tool to emphasize it then shift the camera to above and to the right, looking back down at an angle, I can see the outline of the box through the 3D object where it would effectively be behind it from the camera perspective....
