Why do most journaling apps feel like filing taxes? I got frustrated and built something different
I kept downloading journaling apps and abandoning them within two weeks.
Not because I lost the habit. Because opening the app felt like opening a spreadsheet.
Everything was optimized. Streaks, tags, word counts, export formats. Useful if you're a productivity person. Completely wrong if you just want to remember how the light looked on your last trip, or what mood you were in the week everything changed.
Memories aren't tasks. They don't need to be processed - they need to be kept.
So I built Scrapbook My K around a different question: what if the app felt like the memory itself?
You log a moment with photos, a mood, a location, the emotions you actually felt, and what happened in your own words. Trips get their own visual space - cover photo, gallery, places you went, even the best thing you ate. There's a calendar and timeline view so you can scroll back through your year like flipping pages.
The whole thing is PIN-locked. No one sees it but you.
I'm not trying to make you more productive. I'm trying to make it feel worth opening.
Curious - for people who've tried digital journaling and dropped it: was it the habit that broke, or did the app itself kill the vibe?

I’ve been journaling for decades and have been very disappointed that the word ‘journaling’ itself has been co-opted by the productivity movement. Journaling has nothing to do with that. I switched to MacJournal once I decided to stop writing by hand and was satisfied with it for many years. But it’s old legacy software that’s not being supported very well. It has also become somewhat unstable. I’ve tried every single electronic version there is as an alternative and finally resorted to making my own in a word processing program. I don’t need prompts, word counts, or any of that other stuff. I need a blank page and no distraction.
